I’m no rocket scientist, but I feel that statement holds true for bullets too
skhr0680··on Nikon to acquire RED
> If reliability is a concern, you can easily buy multiple Godox units of approximately the same specifications (or better) for the same price as one Broncolor.

I got burned enough, once even literally, by cheap Chinese speedlights that I am now a firm subscriber to the philosophy of "buy once, cry once".

skhr0680··on Nude awakening: Japan's 'naked men' festival succumbs to ageing population
No, that’s a different naked festival that has no problem with attendance, I guess because it’s a 20 min train ride from a major city

Yes, they have been “at war” but not at war
skhr0680··on Japan's Comfort Food: The Onigiri
It's not blasphemy per se. Wholegrain rice is popular for health reasons, and convenience stores carry wholegrain onigiri sometimes

ATi made the GameCube’s GPU if that counts

They said the same things in the same dramatic tone when there was a tsunami warning issued after an Earthquake overseas
skhr0680··on Toyota's Daihatsu to halt all vehicle shipments as safety scandal widens
I used to own a Daihatsu and always wondered how they made such a small car comply with the safety standards of larger vehicles. Cheating. The answer was cheating on the test.
skhr0680··on Rolex fined $100M for preventing its watches being sold online
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Rolex transformed into Veblen goods around the time Gshocks were invented
skhr0680··on Your Code Displays Japanese Wrong
My apologies for having higher expectations of computers in 2023 than computers from the 1960s
skhr0680··on Your Code Displays Japanese Wrong
My point is the same. Your text should be recorded and displayed as you entered it, especially when that can lead to confusion.

> , but many simplification attempts also had similar ambiguities.

No one asked to have our languages changed by Unicode

skhr0680··on Your Code Displays Japanese Wrong
广+マ can stand for more than one character. That's the fatal problem with CJK unification in general. It takes the correctly entered language character X and replaces it with CJK character Y and then everyone gets confused

I remember the two CDs of TA having different music and getting mad about that because the song I wanted to listen to wasn’t on the CD I had in

Someone at the top should be paying for that, not someone at the bottom

That’s what people said before WWI. I think the real reason is MAD

That is a JDM "feature" that can be defeated with a $5 part in case you want do something dangerous like ask your passenger to adjust the GPS navigation while on the move.

> They’re not blindly following trends like throwing climate controls into the screen.

I agree, buttons and dials are so much easier to use safely, especially with muscle memory.

skhr0680··on A 6 channel GPS receiver from 1993
Whoever designed the board may have just done it as a joke, but I think giving the coastguard etc. an idea of your general location when in distress would have been a good civilian use of GPS in 1993
skhr0680··on A 6 channel GPS receiver from 1993
Why would someone in 1993 have had the foresight to think that they might need to know their location to within a hundred meters or so?
skhr0680··on A 6 channel GPS receiver from 1993
Am I missing some sarcasm, or do you honestly think that the board in question doesn't look like an ambulance?
skhr0680··on Apple’s keynote event shot on iPhone and edited on Mac
> Apple is showing that an iPhone Pro can be used by _professionals_ to replace their existing camera

It still looks strictly worse than an equivalently priced $1000 camera+lens when directed, lit, operated, and edited by professionals.
