aerospace_guy··on The illusion of state in state-space models
This has been happening for years now. Just adding "AI" or "LLM" gets the views and $$ these days.
aerospace_guy··on Amazon builds property empire, quietly buying land across the US
The Van Horn property is primarily for Blue Origin, and I believe most is under the Blue Origin LLC, not him directly.
aerospace_guy··on Starlink lost 40 satellites to a geomagnetic storm
Amazon can launch Kuiper satellites on any launch vehicle, not just New Glenn.
aerospace_guy··on ISS Docking Simulator
the code is in the youtube video description [1];

definitely not PID control

aerospace_guy··on Former Boeing 737 Max Chief Technical Pilot Indicted for Fraud
> And aerospace engineers are dirt cheap

Inaccurate, please stop sharing misinformation. Seeing this on HN is unfortunate.

aerospace_guy··on Rivian S-1
It seems this is becoming the norm these days. Astra, Joby Aviation, Lucid Motors, Archer and a few others in the aerospace/automotive industries have done this recently.
aerospace_guy··on Launch HN: Turion Space (YC S21) – Space debris removal and satellite servicing
Thanks for the response, y'all sound like a cool group of people. Wish you the best of luck, and I might sneak an application in once you get that hiring page up.

Godspeed!

aerospace_guy··on Launch HN: Turion Space (YC S21) – Space debris removal and satellite servicing
Super cool!

1. I know there are a few other startups/companies working on similar technology. What differentiates y'all? I think Turion is the only one I've seen come out of YC though.

2. Don't see a careers page on your website. Are you hiring?

aerospace_guy··on Billionaires Claiming Climate Leadership Should Not Promote Space Tourism
When commercial airplanes started out, people said the same thing about it being for rich people only. That's how these expensive things start. One day, the cost of these flights will be much lower, to the point where you and I can afford them. Hopefully that day is during our lifetime.
aerospace_guy··on Electric aircraft set to take flight by 2026 under new agreements
For sure, you're right that compared to a jet engine there are fewer parts. The caveat is you're comparing a large engine (and aircraft) with a much smaller one. Electric aircraft of today can't go anywhere near the range of jet engine powered aircraft, and hence the engine sizes are similarly sized. It's not a fair comparison, but you are right.
aerospace_guy··on Electric aircraft set to take flight by 2026 under new agreements
I agree! Just that saying "almost nothing to inspect or maintain" is not true.
aerospace_guy··on Electric aircraft set to take flight by 2026 under new agreements
Modern turbofan/turbojet/turboprop (really, any engine) has a ton of SW involved. Engine controllers [1] literally control the engines. Your point is completely wrong, I've worked on this software and they go through many forms of verification for things to work. Look at the failure rate of avionics and compare that to other industries.

Sure you or your friend may have had a bad experience at that company, but the big players generally won't let software bugs through.

Huh? I see a lot of parts that can fail. What do you mean?
aerospace_guy··on A foreign seller has hijacked my Amazon Klein bottle listing
I just watched this for the first time. Your energy is infectious and inspiring.

Thank you for what you do.

aerospace_guy··on GitHub Copilot
> feedback loop that robs us of our independent thought by way of falling victim to laziness

This was my first thought when I saw this. I intentionally don't use predictive text whenever I can to preserve whatever originality I have left.

aerospace_guy··on Don't let social media think for you
Thank you for posting this.
aerospace_guy··on Jeff Bezos Plans to Travel to Space on Blue Origin Flight Next Month
New Shepard has flown 14 times successfully without any failures. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Shepard#Full_flight_list
aerospace_guy··on United Airlines will buy 15 planes from Boom Supersonic
Likely due to the relation between supersonic jets and sonic booms https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_boom
aerospace_guy··on Past and Future Turtles: The Evolution of the Logo Programming Language (Part 1)
Same here but only in elementary school. At least back in 2004. We moved from Logo -> QBasic -> Visual Basic -> HTML -> Java -> C before graduating high school.
aerospace_guy··on Spotify is killing the open podcast ecosystem (2020)
> There should be an option to turn off simple things like that: turn off podcasts, pause learning from my music for then next 30 minutes, etc.

They state that private listening 'may' not influence your music recommendations.

aerospace_guy··on Phones and apps reduce your ability to focus even when they don’t distract you
> I have my phone in do not disturb mode 24/7

Me too. I've recommended it to so many people, but I think many are so addicted to that dopamine hit they find it hard to do.

aerospace_guy··on Thinking too much can be bad for you (2012)
Try meditation. Control your mind.
aerospace_guy··on SpaceX sends laser-linked Starlinks to the polar orbit
What sites allow employees to sell their options/shares to non-employees?
aerospace_guy··on A swarm of drones flying through heavy forest–while staying in formation
Why do you need machine learning to "deal with the knockback of shooting a gun from a drone"?
aerospace_guy··on Engineers, not racers, are the true drivers of success in motor sport
Do you think engineers haven't been involved in building aircraft and automobiles until now? They've been the "main drivers of success" since the beginning of those industries.

If you mean software engineers, I think your point is only partially valid. There is room for improvement in other areas as well, such as controls, aerodynamics, energy, materials to name a few.

aerospace_guy··on Rolls-Royce concludes testing of plane technology to break electric speed record
Thanks, I didn't notice the link to the press release at the bottom of the article.
aerospace_guy··on Rolls-Royce concludes testing of plane technology to break electric speed record
I find it interesting that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is developing this, as opposed to Rolls-Royce plc - the company that works more closely with aviation.
aerospace_guy··on Launch HN: Yotta Savings (YC S20) – Behavioral psychology to help people save

aerospace_guy··on Carving out a niche as a small artist on Spotify
Thanks! I wish they’d say ‘will not’ rather than ‘may not’. Good to know they’ve thought about it though!
