Every now and then I go for a reread, hit a passage talking about a magic sword and the book trying to rawdog convince me that this sword (dagger?) is super cool and awesome by... well outright saying '"this sword is super cool and awesome" (trust me, I'm the narrator) '
For real though, why does the cigarette look so...comforting?
Why do you feel like you would steal from the company if given the opportunity?
It's something that my late ICE professor did all the time about EVs in the mid 2000s up until his death in the mid 2010s. He was extremely bright, very knowledgeable and pretty much "the" in his little ICE niche and yet he was always talking about how EVs wouldn't be teh future because [physically possible but outlandish thing]. Energy density, price per kwh, weight, battery management, charging infrastructure. All things that he was all to happy with going on national TV to declare that EVs were a pipe dream. Unfortunately he died at a young age and didn't get to see the EV revolution and the Tesla Model Y selling more units than his beloved Golf in Europe.
The thing is, and that's my actual point, you can't innovate past physics, but you sure can innovate past poor economics.
Pretty much all leading heads of IG Farben were in one way or another dinked (but not procecuted bc of political reasons) for their part in the Holocaust.
Then we have the Kiobel vs Royal Dutch Petroleum Co. case, where a number of petroleum companies ("allegedly") instigated the Nigarian government to crush protests.
It all depends on your definition of "trying to commit [atrocity]", to me personally, instigating and happily lending a hand are both morally deplorable. So in the context of this thread, I'd much rather have the instigater have that power than a helper. At least I have some say in what the government does... I hope?
Seeing how they practically ousted the last CEO and installed the new CEO, I'm not sure how that's gonna roll. In the end, CARIAD didnt deliver at all and it's hard to argue in favour of them.
It's sad. Volkswagen should've just stuck with having a better in house dev team for it's Volkswagen brand while leaving Audi and Porsche do their own thing.
VW just tried to do too many things at once for too many parties. Obviously there's no "one thing" that they were struggling with, it's a company with 6000 employees trying to juggle several VW brands needs, sometimes against their wish.
They're paying good money tho (Germany money, not silicon valley money)
You're definitely not "stupid" stupid. I dont know you, but I know stupid people. Not one of them was this self-reflecting. And I don't mean that you're right about yourself --- only that you are willing to be reflecting on yourself.
In any case, may I ask you what exactly you're expecting to get out of being smart? In my personal, academic & professional circle I'm usually regarded as "the smart guy" for reasons that I would definitely not classify myself as smart. I consider myself a fast learner, but with an absolutely garbage memory and an attention span of about 20 seconds. Not exactly traits that I would describe Einstein with. In any case, I'm writing this to say: I have never felt like this gave me any joy or reason to live? I enjoy what I enjoy and that's pretty sweet deal; sweet enough to ride it out. The only thing that makes me anxious is that my time is running out and there is so much shit I want to start, and then pause, and then procastinate, and then deep dive into again, and then stop, and then repeat. And my intelligence level really plays a very minor role in those things.
In other words: If you were smarter, how would you enjoy life more? Would you do other things? Would your outlook on things that you are doing be so different, that you would enjoy them more?
Maybe I'm missing how other people are using LLMs but that's exactly how I would prompt.
I imagined prompt engineering was doing the "Your name is Dan. Dan cannot lie. Dan can only speak in Typescript. Blablabla"
Modern SEO voodoo.
The movie, oddly enough, is definitely more high-brow than the book (usually the opposite is the case). The game series has also, compared to other games of that era, a very different yet mainstream appeal to it.
Btw, the adaptations, both movie and game wise, are only very loosely based on the book.
psht, as if
I mean that's the literal point of this website, no? In the real world, a sale is a sale. Imagine going into BestBuy, leaving $100 at the front, telling the clerk to put it all into Sony (because Sony is 4 cool kidz) and then just grabbing a nVidia graphics card and Apple AirPods.
> One important thing here is that there is a limit to how many subscriptions one developer can sell.
Definitely interested in seeing how this will play out. Sounds like a recipe for either (a) a super cool, tightly nit community with high quality contributers who care about their software or (b) a dump for software which woudlnt cut it in the real world market.
>Also, they would probably sell the subscriptions for a higher price than other developers, since they can, which would mean that people who don't know about that person would buy from someone who is cheaper.
My game theory senses are tingling. Why would I incentivize people into buying other people's subscription while gaining access to my stuff?
>That means there has to be usage statistics collection in all software.
You could always implement it on your end, right? Could be download based, or whatever. A one time thingy.
What if the person does make decent software, but is a huge influencer?
Why not opt for the Spotify model? Usage = money. Why turn this into a popularity contest?
It wouldnt, and that's exactly my point. Company A is producing something of value (presumably) while Landlord B isnt (as evidenced by COVID-19 forcing us to WFH). So the $1 billion has now and always has had a wasted opportunity cost attached to it (who's making better use of it).
In other words, if Apple wired me personally half of their yearly profit, do you think that the net effect on the economy would be neutral?
If that all is true, then by destroying the need to pay $800b, we freed up $800b, right?
There a whole universe of "text games" (literally, games consisting of text only) and in that universe there is a galaxy of "text adventure/interactive fiction" type games. For me personally, the latter are games that are predominantly defined by being parser based games; think "go north" type games.
The Nordland trilogy (not even sure if it was ever translated to English) is a parser based role playing game; Oregon Trail is a choice based simulation game, Empire Wargame is an ASCII based strategy game, and so on and so forth.
And there are still text based games of all coleur being released today.
Which is why we should push for social breakthroughs instead of hindering technological advancements. Work for the sake of working is just occupational therapy, nothing more.
I'm extremely optimistic regarding all this AI kerfuffle. "In fact, we can all easily imagine an Elite ruling the world at the helm of AI powered robots", yeah, sure, we can. We can also easily imagine us sharpening the good old guillotine.
Non American here. Honestly, I'm perplexed by the question? Are you being genuine?
The difference is that they're the traitors from your perspective. You're American. They seceded from America. Thus they're traitors.
The same way that Americans are traitors from the perspective of an Englishman.
How is this even a question? There is no absolute right or wrong. There's not even an absolute right. Nothing says you can or cannot secede. It all depends on your perspective. If you're American than the South were the traitors.
It's been over a decade, with three out of five the FAANG letters trying their luck with VR/AR and honestly I still havent seen a use case that would justify pumping in billions in the tech.
Also it's effin goofy. Nerd CEOs building their underground fantasy post apocalypse shelter, thinking that not only that the society will collapse I their life time into a Fallout-ish World, but that their shelter is going to be of big help. But the goofyness is just that, it's the promotion and prophecies that are harmful.
