twohaibei··on Show HN: CommitAsync – $100K+ dev jobs 100% remote only
Some ads have their salary put in local currency, which is a lot less than 100k USD. IE. couple of Polish, Swedish ads. one swedish ad starts at 837k which is comical.
twohaibei··on How deceptive design is used to compromise your privacy and how to fight back
I thought that too, until I visited my colleague who turned on their tv on those braincell killing videos and presented it as entertainment.
twohaibei··on How Japan Airlines crew led 367 passengers to safety from a burning plane
On the last plane I was, the door was 17kg and instructions said to pick it up, turn sideways, then throw away. I prefer strong men to do it when my life depends on it.

I think if there is a situation when "one tug and give up" happens, this is it.

twohaibei··on Should AVIF be the dominant image format on the web?
PNG for photos produce very very large files.
twohaibei··on Tailwind vs. Semantic CSS
4. I just checked. Its 12kB vs 4kB.

But tailwind/nextjs version has a lot of files incluced (ie. svg icons) which the other extracted to separate files.

Also, nextjs adds its own code that is completely unnecessary. Such as, 15 reponsive versions of the same image file, script tags at the end with the whole content in json.

This comparison does not feel objective (or honest) at all to me. If you want to prove to professionals that your CSS solution is better, you need to provide much stronger evidence. Preferably ones those professionals can't disprove within 30 seconds of comparing the examples themselves.

twohaibei··on Banning words won’t make the world more just
As someone not from US working in a US company I'm terrified. Literally.
twohaibei··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (March 2023)
I would recommend checking it on mobile if you think it looks better :)
twohaibei··on Is Moving to Mastodon Ethical?
Respect for reading that far. I stopped when I saw thee main problems with mastodon. If those are the main problems, you know someone if trying very hard to find arguments to suit the hypothesis.
twohaibei··on EU-wide maximum limit of €10K for cash payments
> I have never payed more than say $3k in cash. It just doesn’t make sense to do so.

Let me quote someone smart on privacy topic:

> Arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

Cash = privacy. I dont want to get stripped from privacy by anyone for any reason.

twohaibei··on Hacker News Parody Thread (2013)
I never laugh out loud in front of the screen. Especially in public places. Almost never.
twohaibei··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment
I wish more people (me) were like you.
twohaibei··on It looks like I’m moving to Mastodon
In my opinion it's the opposite. The smaller the ship, the sharper the turn.
twohaibei··on I fought the PayPal and I won
i would prefer if silicon valley corporations didn't judge my morals when deciding to cut me off my money.
twohaibei··on Get in zoomer, we're saving React
Ha, I was wondering if I'm the only one allergic to that attitude. For me it was one sentence later at "You should listen to your elders" where I decided this piece won't be much of a value and head over to the comments which never fail to have some interesting insights without forcing me to read extended history and ramblings.
twohaibei··on Google Maps is expanding its eco-friendly navigation feature to Europe
Same happens to me. Couple months ago it pointed me through some small villages instead of using highway, making me save ~3 minutes, for the cost of a lot of stress and less safety.

I'm now trying to find some better navigation system because im pretty sure at some point it won't be optional.

twohaibei··on Ask HN: Why do companies want us “back in office” despite productivity costs?
If lack of watercooler talk is a reason to build the wrong thing, there are bigger problems in a company to fix before focusing on forcing people to work in the office.
twohaibei··on Issue trackers considered harmful for tracking product development
You could even go a step further and play the SEO game by creating landing pages for all the comparisons. Ie. vs Trello, vs Jira, vs Github Issues. Zapier did it (and automated) with success.
twohaibei··on Click the Paw
I got it on Firefox for android. Maybe locale matter as someone suggested.
twohaibei··on Ask HN: How to deal with potential discrimination when applying for job
The position is there on their website (and job boards) 3 months after my first application, I think its real.
twohaibei··on Ask HN: How to deal with potential discrimination when applying for job
Good question. Now that i think about it, i see no reason to do it. I assumed its standard practice.
twohaibei··on Ask HN: How to deal with potential discrimination when applying for job
> Reduce the amount of years you include in work history.

Is this not to suggest my age/avoid ageism, or not distract from the current experience?

twohaibei··on Ask HN: What are some of your favorite YouTube channels?

twohaibei··on What I Miss About Working at Stripe
My thoughts exactly. Sacrificing health, relationships and my own life to bump someones liquidity event check seems like a bad deal. I can care about a lot of things, but without sacrificing for someone else's cause.

Workaholism is not an answer to the lack of personal goals or meaning in life. Its just distraction.

twohaibei··on Tailwind Toucan: Interactive Intro to TailwindCSS
Very good idea. I remember showing flexboxfroggy to a friend and he learned flexbox quickly. Having said that, throwing React into the mix is unnecessary complication for anyone wanting to learn TailwindCSS.
twohaibei··on Ask HN: M1 Pro 14' still worth it for development?
Im using it since it came out (16 GB ram, M1 Pro 10 core CPU - meaning: the middle one.), including React development - it is more than enough and a pleasure to work with. Docker is also much faster than on Intel based MBP 2015 15".
twohaibei··on Bear Blog – A privacy-first, fast blogging platform
Depending on the styles inside of that style tag it can be faster because of lack of separate http request to fetch it.
twohaibei··on Show HN: Kreya, a Postman Alternative
I was on the same boat and found Insomnia app pretty good.
