tvon··on NES.css – NES-Style CSS Framework
The 8.3 naming is hilarious there.
tvon··on CDC website built by Deloitte at a cost of $44M is abandoned due to bugs
It is not a tech problem, it is a people problem.
tvon··on Better Git diff output for Ruby, Python, Elixir, Go
I’ve been using git since a year or two after it was released and I’ve never paid any attention to that part of the diff. I could see it that preventing some editing of the wrong method but that is something testing should reveal.

I’m curious if others see some value in it, either before or with changes from this post?

tvon··on Tell HN: Zoom runs application from Time Machine backup when uninstalled on Mac
I've cloned drives with SuperDuper and had an uninstalled app launch from the clone. So, toss that anecdote on the pile.
tvon··on Curl exercises
You could pipe to `jq` (https://stedolan.github.io/jq/), or send the response to a file and view with whatever.
tvon··on Tesla drops cheapest Model X, S variants, cuts prices to simplify lineup
Source was just a google of M5, but you're right that page says 10.9.

It was an argument against the "insanity" of a 10.5 time, you're right it costs quite a bit more.

tvon··on Tesla drops cheapest Model X, S variants, cuts prices to simplify lineup
The M5 does a 10.5 1/4 mile, it is a very impressive time for a production vehicle but it's not insane. A lot of production sports bikes are into the 9s.

edit: Actually 10.5 is pretty insane for a production vehicle but we live in a time with a lot of insanely fast and overpowered cars.

tvon··on The Parker “51” (2018)
The "#bbinclude" in the source suggests it was made using BBEdit.
tvon··on Well-Architected Monoliths Are Okay
What "well-architected" system is not okay?
tvon··on How to Enable Autocomplete in Mac Terminal
I know this is territory that gets rehashed every time someone says "hey, I like tool X..." but I still get a kick out of browsing these threads to see what tools people are using.

On that front, I've been using ZIM: https://github.com/zimfw/zimfw

I also recently added sandboxd so certain things are not run during shell init (rbenv/pyenv/asdf/etc): https://github.com/benvan/sandboxd

tvon··on Original Windows File Manager with enhancements
It has nothing to do with github, it is trivial and common to have images/screenshots/whatever in the in-repo documentation (or in the wiki).
tvon··on In 2017, VR Headset Shipments for Most Top Brands Went Down
I believe they are referring to those Android VR headsets like "Gear VR" by Samsung.
tvon··on Car Hacker's Handbook (2016)
More than likely you can get your car "coded" which lets you customize little things like that.
tvon··on Send the Barbarian in First
Reminds me of this post to r/writingprompts somewhat recently:

> [WP] A barbarian warlord, a goblin king, a mighty necromancer, and a dark elven high priestess meet for one reason... To play Suburbs and SUVs, the hottest mundane suburban family Tabletop RPG!

tvon··on How to Emulate a Raspberry Pi (Raspbian Jessie) on Mac OS X
Am I misreading or are you chrooting to an x86 build of Raspbian?
tvon··on Disney to Acquire Twenty-First Century Fox
In what way(s) is Disney not currently fully empowered to compete with Netflix?
tvon··on iMac Pro Available Now
NVidia provides drivers, I'm using one on a Hackintosh now.

tvon··on Firefox 57.0 Released
FWIW, the tab shows the loading progress in blue, so you're seeing the result of quick page loads. Not arguing your experience, just clarifying what is happening.

You might like the "Light" theme, which I think is available by default. That won't do any rounding for you, however.

tvon··on Nevada becomes fifth US state to allow cannabis sales for recreational purposes
Valid in the state does not necessarily mean it was issued in that state.
tvon··on What city is the microbrew capital of the US?
I realize sniffing your location in a web page is not anything new, but the way it is used here by adding a leading headline and altering the opening paragraph (those are what I noticed) gives me a vague sense of unease.
tvon··on A simple command allows the CIA to commandeer vulnerable Cisco switches
Disabling the service is a way to protect you from the vulnerability, but it is not a fix for the vulnerability. A fix for the vulnerability would allow you to continue using the service.
tvon··on Phoenix 1.3 is pure love for API development
FYI, your links all have numbers appended to them. The working links seem to be:

tvon··on ThinkPad X1 Carbon
Yes, I know.
tvon··on ThinkPad X1 Carbon
If you are trying to match your production platform then you will use a VM of some sort in Linux anyway. If you are not trying to match your production platform then you can develop just fine on OSX.
tvon··on ThinkPad X1 Carbon
If you care about isolation and reproduction then you're using a VM anyway and the host OS is completely irrelevant.
tvon··on ThinkPad X1 Carbon
> (...) most developers setting up vagrant on their Mac just to get a working environment.

What kind of working environment requires setting up Vagrant on OSX? It's a Unix-based OS, if you're doing any web development you can do it on the host system.

tvon··on A CIA calendar the CIA gift shop refuses to sell
I'll sum it up:

The inaugural “Secret Ops of the CIA” calendar was produced by the nephew
of an agency contractor killed in the line of duty and features
reproductions of the actual paintings that have hung for years inside the
hallways of the CIA headquarters in Northern Virginia.

    (...)

The calendars are on sale for $28 at the International Spy Museum (...)

    (...)

Toni Hiley, the longtime CIA museum director, said the gift shop can’t sell
the calendar because “it’s not an official work of the U.S. government.”
tvon··on Hyper 1.0.0
FWIW, if you get linked to a github release page then click on the project name at the top and you will get the main repository view with a short description (above the file list) and the full README below that.
tvon··on Fewer than 3% of cars sold in the U.S. have manual transmissions
"Steer into the slide" means if your car is rotating clockwise you steer left such that you reduce the friction on the front end (by turning the wheels so they roll instead of slide) and maintain the friction on the back end (given the wheels will not be pointing forward).

(edit: depending on how far you've already rotated, but I'm speaking as if the front of the car is still ahead of the back of the car)

tvon··on Web fonts, boy, I don't know
It is the web fonts, if I override 'body' and 'body p' then it loads quickly (the content does anyway, sidebars still flicker).
