shogun21··on Availability of the Government of the United States
I would like a US government statuspage.
shogun21··on Ask HN: What Browser Versions Should I Support?
Look at https://caniuse.com/usage-table. IE11 has 2.66% usage. Is that worth the time investment in development?

If your site is already active, I would also look at Google Analytics and see if any of your audience uses IE11.

And the last question, the user experience will, of course, be best on evergreen browsers, but will it completely break on older browsers?

shogun21··on Amazon is stuffing its search results pages with ads
It has to do with demand.
shogun21··on Ask HN: How could search results change so most clicks don't go to spots #1-3?
How do you define the "right information"? And if the results are sorted properly, why wouldn't it be in spots #1-3?
shogun21··on Ask HN: Website which shows styling applied step by step?
I think you're referring to this: https://jgthms.com/web-design-in-4-minutes/
shogun21··on Facebook announces Clear History feature
Does anyone trust Facebook to delete your data when they say they delete it?
shogun21··on Ask HN: What are good writing tips for software developers?
Commit messages should start with a verb, and complete the sentence "If you apply this commit, it will..."
shogun21··on A Sleeping Alexa Can Listen for More Than Just Its Name
Would you still trust that it's off when it says that it's off?
shogun21··on The Verge Tech Survey
I was confused by the lack of consistency across each of the graphs.

"No Opinion/Don't care" is sometimes gray, sometimes yellow, and sometime orange.

And for some graphs, the negative reaction is on the left and others the negative reaction is on the right.

shogun21··on Training exercise boosts brain power, Johns Hopkins researchers say
Each word is pushing onto, and then popping off of a stack.
shogun21··on Venezuelan Opposition Leaders Detained at Gunpoint in Raids
This podcast from the BBC was really helpful to me in explaining it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p051zkj8
shogun21··on Waymo: Google's self-driving car company
I feel like they're really getting on the cute-sy theme, from the car's friendly design to the name "Waymo".

The lack of control is still kind of terrifying so I think they're trying to make it as non-threatening as possible.

shogun21··on Advanced Data Structures
Suppose we want to prove that every string is perfectly cromulent. I love it already.
shogun21··on MacBook Pro
Apple is fully supporting USB-C on their MacBook line. I don't know why they didn't just go all the way with unifying that across the iPhone 7.
shogun21··on Snapchat Seeks to Raise as Much as $4B in IPO
Just speaking personally, but I thought the hype around Snapchat was on the decline. The app seemed to get slower with every update and people within my social circles weren't using it as much as a few years ago.
shogun21··on Poor kids who do things right don't do better than rich kids who do things wrong
Yeah, I think the author is drawing the wrong conclusions by comparing two variables. It looks like, from the graph, there's some staying power within the top 20%, but that still leaves a great amount of mobility for college graduates.
shogun21··on Nintendo Switch – New Video Game System [video]
Then they tried AR in 2011 with the 3DS. It went better.
shogun21··on OpenAI is Using Reddit to Teach An Artificial Intelligence How to Speak
That's weird. A grammar nazi is a stickler for grammar. You'd think naziparking would be a stickler for proper parking.
shogun21··on Visual Studio Code 1.6
Middle-click and drag is a game-changer! Thanks for the heads up.
shogun21··on Google’s Self-Driving Car Project Is Losing Out to Rivals
It's even more dangerous if it creates a false sense of security.
shogun21··on Amazon Vehicles
I would think if you're dropping tens of thousands of dollars for a product, you'd be satisfied with it or convince yourself you're satisfied.
shogun21··on Ask HN: Know a good tool to purge all posts/likes/photos from Facebook?
You can change your privacy settings so you have to approve everything before going on your wall/feed.
shogun21··on Why I Quit My Job to Travel the World
Honest question: how do you teach English if you aren't bilingual in the foreign language?

It seems like if the students have questions, you won't easily be able to answer them.

shogun21··on Why I Quit My Job to Travel the World
Save that $500 a month, and you'll have enough within a year.

It's not a LOT of money, but enough to travel if that is what you want to do.

shogun21··on Mary Meeker's 2016 Internet Trends Report [pdf]
I think that industry is still too young. We don't yet know if it'll take off or just be a fad.
shogun21··on Andrew Ng calls Tesla irresponsible for shipping an imperfect autopilot
The autopilot is still in beta and warns drivers to still pay attention to the road.

As long as drivers have control, they are responsible for the vehicle. Only after we remove steering wheels, the accelerator, and brakes; and have a fully autonomous system should the car manufacturers (or software manufacturers) be blamed.

shogun21··on Pebble 2, Time 2 + All-New Pebble Core
I'm waiting a few weeks to see if they announce an update to their Round.
shogun21··on Netflix Will Be the Exclusive US TV Home of Disney, Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar
We'll bring the Netflix, you bring the chill (AC).
shogun21··on Credit-Card Debt Nears $1 Trillion as Banks Push Plastic
Credit cards have much greater fraud protection than debit cards. In the few times someone made a fraudulent purchase on my credit card, they instantly messaged me to confirm, then removed the charge and mailed me a new card/number.
shogun21··on Google Home
I am impressed Amazon was able to make a new product category. It's only a matter of time before Apple announces their take on Siri Home.
