When I message/call/text/email my mail friends, I know there's a 1h-24h time window before I get a response. And that's if the message prompts a response. Otherwise, they'll address it next time in person, or just let it fly by. On the other hand, my female friends respond much quicker.
At the same time, I see my current girlfriend ALWAYS on her phone. There's always someone she's in contact with - because it's a priority for her to respond. My male friends when hanging out, are almost never texting/chatting on their phone unless something immediate demands attention. It's an interesting tradeoff
But I think you're onto one of the core issues - an a much more personal lens. Many (including myself) compare our successes to that of our parents. They were married by 24. Finished Masters degrees by 26. Bought their first house by 30. I can't compare with that.
Dogs are wonderful companions. But they do come with needs and stress of their own. They are no replacement for therapy, mental health, or social engagement. Get a dog because you want to care for and love a dog. Animals aren't remedies.
Far from perfect, but it's been a habit I've been taking more and more in order to avoid all the garbage SEO / Lead Gen / Promotional content out there that's diluting searches.
Unless something absolutely amazing is happening in the living room, the smokers will be out back, a pair of introverts will be in the hallway, and everyone else will slowly gravitate towards the kitchen until everyone is in the way.
You can "out plan" temptation if you avoid making decisions in the moment.
Though - the same as a careful diet - social engagements throw a wrench in the discipline machine. Restaurants, bars, parties, etc.
a.) Don't involve staring at a screen. I do that enough every day. All day.
b.) Doesn't involve eating &/or drinking as the primary activity.
c.) Is more than just "passive consumption" of someone else's hard work (theater, media, sports, etc).
Dungeons and Dragons really "scratches" this itch. It's a creative endeavor, where the ultimate goal is just to hang out and have a good time.
Maybe it's just an excuse to hangout, "shoot the shit" and get some laughs in? Or maybe it's a much deeper creative/intellectual endeavor.
Either way, it's been one of the best additions to my life in recent years, and it's gotten me to do a lot of thinking about the nature of creativity and the idea of crafting "fun".
Sorry if this is an obvious question
The bag is a bit on the heavy side (5lb), and a bit on the pricy side ($180), but I absolutely love it. Use if every day for almost 2 years. Laptop, Work, Photo Gigs, Groceries, Bike Commuting, etc.

But, you do have a point. However, it's going to be a long time until the VR technology catches up, there's no great social experience (as far as I know) that isn't sitting at the bottom of the Uncanny Valley.
Recently sold 3 MALM dressers on Craigslist when I moved out of my last apartment. Recovered a little over half their value.
My current desk (MALM) was bought on Craiglist 4 years ago. Didn't have a car to get to IKEA. It's survived 4 years of use, and 3 moves.
