robtaylor··on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?
Name one
robtaylor··on OpenRA
Have they cleaned out the racists, trolls and general scumbags from the 'community' ?
robtaylor··on ABC News has taken all FiveThirtyEight articles offline
If you sell out don't expect to control future events.
robtaylor··on Claude Seems to Be Down
Yes same, UK.

Unreliable! :D

Would you be open to possible sale? (UK based)
robtaylor··on Stop crawling my HTML – use the API
A dot mobi in the wild, wild!
robtaylor··on Red Alert 2 in web browser
It used to be great, but the 'community' has some grim individuals sadly.
robtaylor··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2025)
Love this - did you buy the name or was it free to reg? (nosey!)
robtaylor··on AI slop is already invading Oregon's local journalism
To those, like throwaway on this thread, who say " Give it 5 years and this "AI slop" will write better than your best trained journalist. Get over it."

How does AI attend meetings, ask questions of local officials or bodies, provide in-person reports and original fact based copy?

AI can hoover all that up and rewrite and expand, but surely there will be a need to have boots-on-the-ground?

If so, who pays?

I am already seeing AI giants using local media copy in output with $0 paid for the knowledge and information.

robtaylor··on HN website is/was down. I'm curious why?
HN is down for me.
robtaylor··on Ask HN: I've spent $1M+ building a fitness app. Now what?
"there's a small trickle of users"

"take a holiday break to freshen my perspective"

Due to A do B now, as it will be easier than if you have lots of active users to support and is an opportunity.

The refresh might give you some distance to come to answers/direction etc.

Look after you first :)

Good luck!

robtaylor··on TikTok Shop
A 22.5meg .png image on that page. How?
robtaylor··on Google no longer offers new domain registrations
Just a shout for Porkbun.

Not directly domain related but they replied to me direct on something and great - humans there.

robtaylor··on Stripe Shutdown Our Nonprofit's Account, Holding $12k in Donations Hostage
All I can help with is an upvote. Payroll = jobs / lives / mortgages / kids / health etc etc affected. I hope it gets sorted out ASAP.

Stripe and others, up your game.

robtaylor··on An SEO scam: $62k later
...and have published a 'disheartening' invoice dated 31st Oct 2022 - then work with the company for another ten months. Apparently content to be on the "dirty side of the Internet" and doing something that made them think "Something didn't seem right."

All very odd.

robtaylor··on An SEO scam: $62k later
Surely this is some link bait as an SEO play?

A company that says "Tinloof is a technical SEO agency that conducts audits, and implements the necessary optimizations on websites and ecommerces to rank higher on Google and other SERPs" and puts out this content would be shooting itself in the foot reputationally otherwise?

Surely....!?

robtaylor··on Show HN: I built a 'newspaper' that summarizes current events with GPT
Do you pay for the news you rewrite?

If not, if this is the future, how is it sustainable? The original sources are required for this to be a thing.

robtaylor··on Startups should consider starting their own podcasts
co-founder of podcast hosting platform says why you need a podcast...
robtaylor··on Show HN: ChatGPT-powered Search Bar for your Site
I asked it 'what day is it' it replied "Based on the context provided, it is March 24, 2023".
robtaylor··on Ask HN: What key feature(s) is missing from Mastadon?
Search.

On verification you can verify to a url.

robtaylor··on Who owns history? How historical footage is hidden and monetised [video]
Strange way to make the film available then not at various times considering the subject matter.
robtaylor··on Twitter is down due to buggy release?
Web and app back up - but currently all links posted return that error onclick / tap.
robtaylor··on Met Office says Northern Lights will be visible in England tonight and tomorrow
Reach PLC network bait makes HN frontpage?! Amazing!
robtaylor··on I created an eBay account and bought an item, today I got indefinitely suspended
I am able to buy, but not able to sell.

eBay say I am connected to a dodgy account that was last active years ago. I am not connected to it - but must be some IP match or fingerprint from shared office or the like.

Zero ability to feedback or get anywhere from eBay.

The logic is rubbish as well, I am dodgy so stop me from selling... but fine to buy?! How?!

eBay - sort your shit out.

robtaylor··on The NYT Op-Ed I Just Took a Kill Fee For
old man shouts at cloud
robtaylor··on Stripe is holding over $400k of mine with no explanation
All I can help with is an upvote. Payroll = jobs / lives / mortgages / kids / health etc etc affected.

I hope it gets sorted out ASAP.

Stripe and others, up your game.

robtaylor··on Twitter's anti-Mastodon filter evasion
Hilarious you see the NUJ as competent enough for that. In my view the NUJ, NCTJ etc are (sadly) not the answer for the challenges of media in 2022 and beyond - it could be argued they are not fit for purpose.
robtaylor··on Twitter to Introduce Official Label
The year is 2023, the entire of Twitter is now just the full gamut of various tick marks.
robtaylor··on Putin grants Russian citizenship to former US security contractor Edward Snowden
If only there was some way to find out, about pages, google etc.
