rainworld··on Landrun: Sandbox any Linux process using Landlock, no root or containers
Does Linux 6.8 in fact ship ABI v5? At least it’s not guaranteed (Ubuntu 24.04, 6.8.0-55-generic). This post suggests 6.10: https://lore.kernel.org/landlock/20240716.yui4Iezai8ae@digik...
rainworld··on Landrun: Sandbox any Linux process using Landlock, no root or containers

  // If we have no rules, just return
  if len(rules) == 0 {
      log.Info("No sandbox rules to apply")
      return nil
  }
Really cool and well-written project, but I disagree with this choice: No rules should mean no rules (everything denied).

I would have suggested support for more fine-grained file/directory permissions—good to see that’s already planned.

rainworld··on End the Ukraine war? Neither side is ready
That bio is out of date but, fine, he’s not literally a think tanker, he operates on the academic side. Pretty much the same job, though, especially when writing such “opinion pieces”.
rainworld··on End the Ukraine war? Neither side is ready
Think tanking is a fantastic grift.

At first, representatives of the General Staff told a lot, confusing, but very interesting. Then there were more reports. But most of all I remember Budanov's answer. Someone asked him how much time we still have. And Kirill says with his cold smile: "If there are no serious negotiations by the summer, then very dangerous processes for the very existence of Ukraine may be launched," recalls one of the participants of the meeting in a conversation with the UP.

rainworld··on Russia's Hidden War Debt
No, worse. They trusted their experts and they trusted what the Ukrainians reported. They smelled blood and giddily thought they had the opportunity to humiliate Russia—without getting their hands too dirty. Culminating in the resounding failure of the 2023 Kontr.

By fall 2023 they knew the score. But they couldn’t get out then and they still can’t.

Bit of “media literacy” for you: The media you read does not exist to inform you. Trump’s lead would have had to have been overwhelming for published polls to indicate that he would win.
rainworld··on Russia's War Economy Is Hitting Its Limits
There’s the new line.

Yeah, things are bad (but not that bad) and we were wrong [that is, lied] the last six times but if we can just get Ukraine through 2025, Russia will definitely be exhausted. Pinky swear.

rainworld··on TSMC will stop making 7 nm chips for Chinese customers
>Why does China’s near abroad matter to them? Why do they care about national unity? Why would they want unobstructed access to the deep-water Pacific?

Are questions that answer themselves. But they are the wrong questions.

It’s not China that’s the hostile actor here. It’s not China that’s meddling in distant affairs. This very thread pertains to an unilateral, unprompted hostile action by the US against China. And note that it’s not Trump’s doing. He’ll just do more of it, more openly.

And all of this is very much in line with America’s (at least) seven decades old strategic posture:

rainworld··on TSMC will stop making 7 nm chips for Chinese customers
>The US now has an isolationist regime.

It doesn’t. But as the Empire’s grip on the world is slipping it will become more brazen, aggressive, openly selfish, erratic. Quod licet Iovi etc. A role Trump was born to play. But, as Europe’s economic woes after four years of D rule should tell you, it’s not just him who’s happy to cannibalize the Empire’s subjects.

Let’s cut to the chase: you and the shrinking fandom bubble want it to be true. You, like Zelya, are desperate for Western intervention.

rainworld··on Ukraine has lost about 40 German-made Leopard battle tanks
Glad we agree that there is zero evidence of North Koreans in Ukraine, and that Ukraine and Western media were lying, and that you were wrong.

>“are in Russia”

Omitting the part where it says “Russia’s far east.” So about as far from Ukraine as one can be.

Since Russia and North Korea have recently signed a mutual defence pact with stronger guarantees than NATO’s “Article 5,” the possible presence of North Korean soldiers in Russia should come as a surprise no one.

>claims these things

What he actually claims:

I would like to emphasise again that Ukraine is not just a neighbouring country for us. It is an inalienable part of our own history, culture and spiritual space. These are our comrades, those dearest to us – not only colleagues, friends and people who once served together, but also relatives, people bound by blood, by family ties.

>criticizes Lenin and Stalin

He criticizes the Soviets for creating Ukraine as we know it—Donbass, Crimea and so on. Artificial borders, a people divided; precisely to prevent the SU from becoming synonymous with Russia.

And it wasn’t just the Soviets who sought to use Ukraine against Russia.

Every day Ukraine-supporters whine about what they consider lackluster support from the West. What’s actually happening is obvious but wishful thinking and a quality reality distortion field prevent enlightenment: While there are real limits of supply, and at times they might have in fact entertained the idea of “winning,” the basic goal is and has always been to cause as much death and destruction as possible without actually getting into a shooting war with Russia. And, of course, most of that death and destruction happens in Ukraine.

And then they have the gall to cry “scorched earth.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azov_Brigade You know, the ones with the funny tattoos. I’m sure your ancestors would have recognized those.

>Soviet

Equating modern Russia and the SU is a widely deployed sleight of hand at the moment. Same with pre-Soviet Russia. No matter how little sense it actually makes. “Show me on this map where the Tsar/Stalin hurt you.”

But there is a common thread: Russia was, is, and will remain for a long while the predominant regional power. Pays to have a friendly relationship with them. Ami will go home. Sooner or later.

At the very least 50k KIA, proven. Likely many times that. Total casualties a further multiple of that. Tens of thousands of amputees. Don’t even think about paying the promised compensation for all that.

Millions are gone for good. Damage is measured in the hundreds of billions. TPPs are gone. Good chunk of the land gone, most of the coast.

Men are getting abducted on the streets, into the trenches within days or weeks. Others drown or freeze to death on the Western borders, attempting to flee. Hundreds of thousands in hiding. Villages without men. Towns with 2% buried already.

Every day the hole gets deeper. Every day a bit faster.

And you talk about “achievements”. This is not a video game.

Unless you’re some Beltway creature. Unless you’re one of the “Holden Bloodfeasts” of the world. In that case it’s nothing but a long, long list of “achievements“, I suppose.
