maxden··on Is This the First Nintendo Commercial?
I guess it's living up to Betteridge's law. "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betteridge%27s_law_of_headline...

edit: I see its already been mentioned by poochipie.

maxden··on YouTube's next move might make it virtually impossible to block ads
Or you do support those and they introduce ads later.

Unfortunately for users, advertisers will keep throwing money at the problem until the provider finds it attractive enough to add ads, or the provider builds up the user base to make it attractive for ad revenue. Same result.

maxden··on The underground world of hobby tunneling
thought your comment was going to become a quote from the Artilleryman from Jeff Waynes musical version of War of the Worlds!

"We're gonna build a whole new world for ourselves. Look, they clap eyes on us and we're dead, right? So we gotta make a new life where they'll never find us. You know where? Underground. You should see it down there – hundreds of miles of drains – sweet and clean now after the rain, dark, quiet, safe. We can build houses and everything, start again from scratch. And what's so bad about living underground, eh? It's not been so great living up here, if you want my opinion."

maxden··on Toyota: Car location data and videos of 2M customers exposed for ten years
Imagine it has the same functionality as Bait car.. and not allow the occupants to exit the car either.
maxden··on The Rocky Horror Coffin Clock
Your post prompted me to look into it, as I'd not made that connection either.

However Wikipedia says that's not the case and "a wake for the dead harks back to the vigil, "watch" or "guard" of earlier times. "

maxden··on The Mysterious Case of Mr. X
Agreed, it's just a landing/feeder page for the actual article. I guess longreads has better ranking/reputation?
maxden··on Gunship “Tech Noir” Breakdown
That Fly for your life music video is amazing. Thank you for posting it.

It made me look into the making of the visual elements [0] and a more technical look here [1] of the short film "Paths of Hate".

Given some (or all?) of the elements are 3D models, that would make a great experience in VR.

Would it be possible to have it as a VR music video?, or do those compositing shots/passes mean you wouldn't see the same thing? Amazing how creative people are... and how much work goes into such work.

maxden··on Do Aliens Exist? Scientists Wonder If Extraterrestrial Life Has Visited Earth
Sadly our presence in the ocean depths isn't as transient as we may wish, with pollution in the Mariana Trench. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/dec/20/plastic-...

Perhaps we will detect the traces of alien life by what they discard, which is what some suggested 'Oumuamua could be.

maxden··on GeForce RTX 3060 Ethereum Mining Restrictions Have Been Broken
I thought they were trying to stop used up cryptominer cards from flooding the graphics card market. So this doesn't help Nvidia in that respect.

maxden··on Why do printers still suck?
I think they are saying they couldn't connect as all lines were busy, so they would call someone they assumed was connected, causing the other person to drop off and free up a line, and then try and get that free line.
