greenonions··on A dirty dish by the sink can be a big marriage problem
Also recommend this book. It's a simple system to understand your relationship easier, and it acts as a starting point.

As an example from the article, if the author recognized from the beginning that putting the dishes into the dishwasher made his wife feel loved, he would do so, his wife would be happy, and he would feel happy, starting a virtuous cycle.

greenonions··on Young women earn more than young men in several U.S. cities
Not the above poster, but I would guess the word they were referring to was "eugenics".
greenonions··on YouTuber builds his own x-ray machine after $69k hospital bill (2021)
It's because it's the cash price. Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements are significantly less, so in order to make budgets make any sense, the bills that can be increased, increase enough to cover all of the others.

Even employer sponsored insurance will get significant discounts on that price.

greenonions··on The Future is Vast: Long-term perspective on humanitys past, present and future
Maybe there are situations where the best thing for the reproduction of our species is an individual deciding to not reproduce.

If you live in a developed nation, you probably feel secure that humanity will not perish without you having kids. You are allowed to simply enjoy life as you wish and not have kids if you choose (at least, that is my ideal).

greenonions··on To avoid Finland’s tax a 1,000HP imported Hennessey RAM is limited to 55MPH
Why wouldn't we tax single family homes, when multifamily housing is a much more efficient use of space?
greenonions··on Just Say No to Central Bank Digital Currencies
This implies that a central bank digital currency (assuming this is the United States) would have these capabilities.

Maybe this is naive, but I would think that this digital currency would be designed to preserve people's rights in the same ways that current money does.

greenonions··on What makes a great opening line?
"On our wedding day I was forty-six, she was eighteen. Now, I know what you are thinking: older man (not thin, somewhat bald, lame in one leg, teeth of wood) exercises the marital prerogative, thereby mortifying the poor young— But that is false."
greenonions··on Why babies cry in the first three months, how to tell them apart, and what to do
Second this. It is amazingly difficult. So many factors at play, all while sleep deprived, thirsty, on top of regular life.

When working well, though it is miraculous.

greenonions··on Why babies cry in the first three months, how to tell them apart, and what to do
We had no such qualms about a pacifier, have given it freely, and our baby doesn't care for it at all either.
greenonions··on Why babies cry in the first three months, how to tell them apart, and what to do
Very common, although breastfeeding is also common. In our case, we primarily breastfeed but supplement with formula.

Some thirty years ago, as my parents would tell it, people would primarily just use formula.

greenonions··on Investors bought a record share of U.S. homes in 2021
How can we reasonably expect the availability of homes for low income individuals to increase if corporate ownership is banned? Under this hypothetical ban, very few houses would become available, and hardly reduce prices. Housing construction would also slow further, thus negating any short term reduction in prices.

Additionally this does not make any positive impact on the construction of new housing.

greenonions··on U.S. corn-based ethanol worse for the climate than gasoline
It is apparently easier to make the subsidies continue forever than to consider growing alternatives.
greenonions··on Life, school, and the 80:20 rule (2019)
I struggle with this as well. I would describe myself as very curious, and love to read about new subjects.

I wish though, that I was more organized and ambitious. I always want to accomplish more instead of just dabbling in a million different things and never producing anything very large.

greenonions··on The Revenge of the Hot Water Bottle
My wife convinced me to buy what I would consider an expensive rice cooker, computerized. Now the rice is fantastic, I'll admit. However, I'm not really convinced that it's worth 6x a basic rice cooker.
greenonions··on The impact of sexual abuse on female development: a longitudinal study
Indeed the suffering from abuse can reach everyone around them. And the suffering of partners is very real, as a loving intimate relationship is one of life's great joys.

I suppose that I was struck by the above comment mostly because it is so focused on the suffering of abused women's partners as to be jarring in the context of the OP. These sensibilities are my own however, and I should not judge so hastily

greenonions··on The impact of sexual abuse on female development: a longitudinal study
#1 My point is not to suggest that men should leave, but to recognize that they actually value the relationship more than sex. From this standpoint, I would hope, they can use this foundation to build an intimidate relationship for themselves and partners. #2 This is true. #3 I did not intend to insinuate that poster is also an abuser, though clearly from my post there is, which poster did not deserve.
greenonions··on The impact of sexual abuse on female development: a longitudinal study
It seems rather insensitive to ruminate on future men's loss of sex because of sexual abuse.

Perhaps the men in these sexless relationships should analyze if they are capable of sustaining this relationship, considering sex is so important to them and they are not receiving it.

This entire comment does not consider the women's suffering and loss in any capacity due to abuse. Maybe it is the case that a similar complete lack of consideration is present in the perpetrators of abuse.

greenonions··on Who wrote this shit?
Quick delivery cycle
greenonions··on Arthritis drug that cost $198 in 2008 is now more than $10k
Also remember that insurance companies make a profit on margins, so they are directly incentivized to make healthcare transactions larger.
greenonions··on Arthritis drug that cost $198 in 2008 is now more than $10k
This exact argument has seemingly done absolutely nothing to sway politicians here. Because they do not have any shame whatsoever.
greenonions··on Tesla’s Texas Move Is Latest Sign of California Losing Tech Grip
I have a suspicion that many conservative people will take to electric vehicles easier than many think. The f150 lightning I'm sure will be mocked mercilessly, but when people actually get a sense for that acceleration, the convenience, and overall experience, they'll switch.
greenonions··on The biggest churches in the world: Anglo-Norman eleventh-century cathedrals
Infinite regress of creators sounds the most compelling to me. Wouldn't God also wonder why he exists?
greenonions··on Europe’s energy crisis is about to go global as gas prices soar
Future people will likely be carbon negative.

Shall I give you my Venmo?

greenonions··on Apple threatened Facebook ban over slavery posts on Instagram
I don't blame ISPs for the content of the internet. I do blame Facebook for what happens on their platform though, because unlike a telephone carrier or ISP, Facebook's entire purpose is to get me to interact with content.

If you got food that made you sick, do you blame the delivery service or the restaurant?

If the business is ads, data, and eyeballs, you should be responsible for what is on it.

greenonions··on Lesson of ivermectin: meta-analyses based on summary data alone are unreliable
I agree, though there are two obvious courses of action that result from this:

1. Prevent the viewing 2. Increase the readiness

Of which I think #2 is most preferable.

greenonions··on Healthcare in America Is Simply Extortion (2019)
Trust me we (some of us) hate it.
greenonions··on New York passes law that will ban all gas-powered car sales by 2035
Changes like this affect action today. If you are an automaker, are you going to spend limited development money on cars you won't be able to sell in NY in the future? Investors are already pricing in how well automakers are going to be prepared for bills like this and EU/UK laws. So bills like this actually cause a lot of positive change today.
greenonions··on Toyota to spend 1.5T yen on EV battery development
Sure, but I reckon the leader is even less likely to be Toyota than Tesla.
greenonions··on The wild pizzas of southern Italy
This seems pretty accurate; the quality of the flour, tomatoes, and other ingredients just can't match up in Korea.

There are some Korean dishes which do rely on ingredients and simplicity, thinking of a dish like mulhwae, but pizza is kind of a novelty. And if it's going to be a novelty, it might as well be a bit of a spectacal.

Personally, I love exploring both sides!

greenonions··on The wild pizzas of southern Italy
These sound great but are quite tame in terms of pizza.

South Korea takes the idea of pizza into downright absurdity. Imagine corn, squid, blueberry, garlic, sweet potato, and mayonnaise on a single pie together.
