grammarnazzzi··on Sam Altman returns as CEO, OpenAI has a new initial board
The public drama is a red flag that the organization's leaders lack the integrity and maturity to solve their problems effectively and responsibly.

They are clearly not responsible enough to deal with their own internal problems maturely. They have proven themselves irresponsible. They are not trustworthy. I think it's reasonable to conclude that they cannot be trusted to deal with anybody or any issue responsibly.

grammarnazzzi··on Poverty Is the 4th Leading Cause of Death in the US, Research Shows
Living is the 1st Leading Cause of Death in the US

Research published this week estimated that life was linked to at least 100% of the deaths in the United States in 2019 among people aged 0 or older, making living the nation's number one leading mortality driver that year.

grammarnazzzi··on Women Are 41% More Likely to Experience Toxic Workplace Culture Than Men
A frequent aspect of poor performers is putting their energy into building a victim identity over of their actual job responsibilities.
grammarnazzzi··on Women Are 41% More Likely to Experience Toxic Workplace Culture Than Men
women say a lot of things
grammarnazzzi··on America Has Gone Too Far in Legalizing Vice
The devil's in the details.

> At the end of the day we’d be better off without most vices

Who decides what's a vice and what isn't?

> others need heavily regulation

Who decides what gets regulated and how heavily?

It's usually the people with the most to gain personaly who vie to become one of the deciders. They approach such decisions as opportunities rather than tough, morally burdensome responsibilities. And it's the machiavellians and narcissists that work the hardest for it.

grammarnazzzi··on Ask HN: How do you stay productive after work hours?
Off topic. The poster asked for advice on how to be more productive, not how to lead a meaningless, wasted life.
grammarnazzzi··on Ask HN: Is the AI Apocalypse Imminent?
AI poses a threat and you are ignorant.

> I am infuriated every time someone mentions the threat AI poses

u mad bro?

grammarnazzzi··on Bumble releases open-source A.I. feature to help combat unsolicited nudes
> I don’t understand why so much effort gets sunk into this arms race between people who want to distribute material featuring naked humans and firms that are doing their darnest to make it impossible.

"People who want to distribute material featuring naked humans" have many, many, many options. Bumble just isn't one of them.

Bumble does "their darnest to make it impossible" because they want to. Perhaps because their livelihood depends on preventing their dating app from turning into a porn app.

grammarnazzzi··on Bumble releases open-source A.I. feature to help combat unsolicited nudes
> The judgement call of what is/isn't going to be attractive or appropriate ought be to left in the hands of the individuals dating as much as possible rather than controlled by a priest at a tech company.

Using a service doesn't entitle you to control how that service works.

As long as a service is lawful, the owner should be able to define "what is appropriate." Period.

grammarnazzzi··on Don't ignore the janitor
> Further, try to abide by their requests. If they want the trash can by the door to your office or cubicle on Thursday evening, move the damn trashcan to the door.

Better yet, take your damn trashcan out to the damn dumpster your own damn self.

Then we can save some damn money and fire the damn janitor.

> They have 100 to empty; it's a trivial task for you.

It's a trivial part of their job. They're getting paid for it.

grammarnazzzi··on Samsung Loses a Ton of User Data – Offers Nothing to Victims
> Address isn’t likely to change

Addresses are already public records because property ownership and tax records are public.

grammarnazzzi··on John Carmack on avoiding distractions
> Now I put my Meta laptop in the garbage at the end of my VR day.
grammarnazzzi··on Ask HN: Should a 'no side projects' policy be taken seriously?
The language is ambiguous and childish, nothing like I would expect to find in a legal document written by an adult and meant to be legally binding or even taken seriously.

"The employee shall shall not be allowed to provide any services to another company and not to run any other business"
This clause sounds like an instruction for the employee's handler.

Also, the employee "shall shall"? wtf?

Or maybe it just applies to Mr. Shall, first name Shall.

grammarnazzzi··on Tell HN: Banned from LinkedIn for Reporting Wickr Drug Spam
I tend to agree with this.

Spending time reporting issues and care-taking Microsoft is a waste of time.

Don't bother doing things for Microsoft that Microsoft is perfectly capable of doing itself. Nothing is stopping Microsoft from solving problems like this themselves. They don't give a shit.

If Microsoft had not acquired LinkedIn in 2016, it might still be led by people whose lives depended on the health and integrity of the site. Microsoft effectively poisoned Linkedin.

grammarnazzzi··on Feeling like a victim is a perfectly disastrous way to go through life
Your distinction is irrelevant.

Owning your problem will always result in a better outcome than focusing on victimhood and blame. Blame places control and solutions outside yourself.

grammarnazzzi··on Feeling like a victim is a perfectly disastrous way to go through life
> The "don't feel like a victim" advice is a very dangerous when a person really is a victim and needs to get away from an aggressor.

Did you even read the article?

By not feeling like a victim, you own your problem, and this enables you to solve it. In this case, by getting away from the aggressor.

grammarnazzzi··on Study finds most unemployed young men have criminal records
> "Employers need to understand that one big reason they cannot find the workers they need is too often, they exclude those who have had involvement with the criminal justice system,"

Pretentious academics need to understand that one big reason employers exclude those who have involvment with the criminal justice system is because they have a history of criminal behavior.

grammarnazzzi··on Pocket migration to Firefox accounts
Because a simple, integrated part of the pocket product just turned into a dependency on a large, complex, fragile ecosystem.

Instead of improving and investing in the pocket product, firefox instead chooses to leverage it to promote their other stuff, at the expense of making pocket's user experience worse.

grammarnazzzi··on Pocket migration to Firefox accounts
> Why is Pocket migrating to Firefox accounts?

... nonsense omitted

What's the point of acquiring something if you don't leverage it to coerce their users into using your other products?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pocket_(service): > On February 27, 2017, Pocket announced that it had been acquired by Mozilla Corporation, the commercial arm of Firefox's non-profit development group. Mozilla staff stated that Pocket would continue to operate as an independent subsidiary but that it would be leveraged as part of an ongoing "Context Graph" project.

grammarnazzzi··on Ask HN: I'm hesitant to helping colleagues, why?
You ask the wrong questions.

If you are considering doing something, ask yourself if it's a win for yourself and whoever you're relating with.

Is it an important relationship to you? If the answer is yes, then consider investing in it. Otherwise, don't waste your time.

If they are asking for help doing something they are perfectly capable of doing themselves, you should consider passing.

If you help someone who doesn't reciprocate or takes credit for your time, then you're just enabling bad behavior. Don't do it. It's not good for you, it's not good for their growth and it's not good for your company.

So, if it's a win-win, just do it and with confidence that it's right for you and right for them and don't waste energy on /hesitation/trust-issues/feelings/whatever.

"Helping" others in of itself doesn't make you a good person. It makes you a caretaker. Caretaking babies is appropriate and a good thing to do. Doing things for capable adults that they are prefectly capable of doing themselves isn't. It makes you a tool and people will lose respect for you. Even the person you just helped.

grammarnazzzi··on NFTs Are, Quite Simply, Bullshit
Is "bragging" really the motivation?

Because I don't understand what they are bragging about here.

Are they bragging about being a member of a class that can discard $500000 like it's nothing? Rather than donate it to a philanthropic cause? That the beneficiaries of charitable causes are outside their area of concern? That's nothing to brag about.

Maybe it's more about getting attention than bragging?

grammarnazzzi··on Treasury reconsiders IRS’s use of ID.me face recognition for web
A lot of government agencies aren't too concerned with the quality of their services.

Things that discourage people from using thier system just makes their life easier. Theres's no consequence to the department and it's not their problem.

grammarnazzzi··on How can you tell if the company youre interviewing with is rotten on the inside?
Only if diversity is relevant to whatever value the business is providing or it's mission.

Healthy work issues are centered around whatever's going to help the company succeed. People want coworkers who produce and are positive. It affects everybody's livelihood.

grammarnazzzi··on How can you tell if the company youre interviewing with is rotten on the inside?
> Sorry, the work environment is inherently political these days.

For most companies it isn't at all. They consentrate on issues relevant to staying competitive in the market.

I agree that actual cases of discrimination should be addressed and corrected.

Putting forth the ideology that "people" are "imposing their political beliefs on us every moment of every day" says more about you than it does anyone else.

Because that's exactly what you are doing.

grammarnazzzi··on How can you tell if the company youre interviewing with is rotten on the inside?
A decent and self-aware work team is one who treats each other as equals and respect and keeps their political beliefs outside the work environment.

An iterviewee who brings race into the discussion clearly doesn't understand work/personal boundries and is going to be a liability.

grammarnazzzi··on Ask HN: Hacker claimed ownership and then deleted my Facebook Page of 50k users
Is it possible that, after you finish grieving for this loss, you'll come to see deleting your facebook as the best thing that has ever happened to you?

You just got your life back. Congratulations!

grammarnazzzi··on High medical bill in the ER leaves family reeling
You can do wonders with accounting when you have control and collusion with your vertical markets.
grammarnazzzi··on High medical bill in the ER leaves family reeling
$38.92 for trivial, non-professional services they did not ask for. $1000 reversed only after spending days disputing the charge. Child remains at risk because provider was unable/unwilling to services within a reasonable time frame.

$38.92 for a medical assistant spending 1 minute to take your temperature works out to $2335/hour.

The article is not arguing for government control. Rather that medical services should be subject to the same transparency as any other professional business and without collusion with each other and insurance providers.

grammarnazzzi··on High medical bill in the ER leaves family reeling
> Hospital officials defend these fees as necessary to keep an emergency room open 24 hours a day as a community asset.

What nonsense.

This argument is effectively charging a rent without the consent or agreement of the renter (the community).

If the service were reasonable, the community would agree to them. They are not, so the hostipital instead games the insurance system and preys on individuals without the resourses/ability to defend against their predation
