zen_1··on Meta censors pro-Palestinian views on a global scale, report claims
> Honestly I'm not sure how we can start a peace process after the terrorist atrocities that were committed?

Israel somehow managed to convince other arab states and the US to make peace after the Lavon Affair and USS Liberty incidents, I'm sure they can manage to find some equivalent forgiveness in their hearts this time around :)

> At this point I think the best is to just evacuate all Palestinians to the rest of the Arab countries as refugees and then just leave the contested territory as unoccupied and "dmz" like for both sides.

Logistically far more israelis have dual citizenship elsewhere than Palestnians, so perhaps they should leave instead?

zen_1··on Home schooling's rise from fringe to fastest-growing form of education
I'm glad that I grew up in {shithole} (as Trump would put it) where I was able to threaten to (and follow up on in one case) beating the shit out of my bullies in school. It didn't magically stop the bullying, but it made it much less effective when I could lunge at him/fake him out and make him flinch back in fear of a repeat.
zen_1··on Home schooling's rise from fringe to fastest-growing form of education
The problems public schools are facing aren't (all) funding related
zen_1··on Home schooling's rise from fringe to fastest-growing form of education
Except with a much lower chance of kids getting bullied, assaulted, or shot

Which also has 8gb of dram. Funny how close these devices are becoming spec-wise
zen_1··on Crypto thief steals $4.4M in a day as toll rises from LastPass breach
Always been a keepass user here, 100% worth it to me, the overhead of having to manage my own password db is well worth not worrying about it being hacked.
zen_1··on I face investigation for terrorism
That hasn't been true since Hadrian
zen_1··on Instagram apologizes for inserting 'terrorist' into Palestinian bio translations
Sometimes you get to skip the line though, its not all downside

Hey if you're Arab or Palestenian you're likely to get scrutiny no matter what
zen_1··on AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7000 CPUs: Up to 96 Zen 4 Cores for Workstations
Probably thermals, at ~3W/core TDP, 192 cores is gettingg close to 600W to dissipate from a single socket, which is beyond all off the normal heatsink/watercooling solutions I'm aware of
zen_1··on How to cook ground meat perfectly without vision
I realised this once when I was helping a female friend move and I was proud of how I packed all her pots and pans into a single box. She called me over a bit later because she wasn't able to lift it on her own, so we had to split the contents across two boxes, I didn't even consider weight to be an issue while packing as long as the box wasn't in danger of breaking.
zen_1··on Empathy in open source: be gentle with each other
Our ancestors didn't need to feel empathy towards words on a screen, and usually had powerful motivators (e.g. god, the threat of violence, imminent starvation) to work past together.
zen_1··on Rasperry Pi 5 Specs and Images Leaked from Element14?
I just hope the BCM2712 has its full TRM released
zen_1··on Making Military Service More Attractive for Modern Spouses
Guess we're lucky that the US military is armed and ready to find WMDs in the next middle eastern country to fall afoul of the US's foreign policy goals (and butcher some civvies while they're at it. Fun!).

But sure, Russia, China and so on. I prefer to focus on what the military's actually been up to instead of the (real) threats they use for recruitment propaganda.

zen_1··on Egyptian presidential hopeful targeted by Predator spyware
All Egyptian telcos are basically state-run even if they're not listed as state owned. iirc all network infrastructure is leased from TEData (TE = Telecom Egypt) and so they have the ability to block arbitrary ip addresses or mitm traffic.

A side effect of this is that there's no real competition between ISPs in Egypt, since theyre all forced to lease the same infrastructure at the same rates, and are forbidden from building their own. I'm a little salty about this fact, since it's the reason why I could only get a 2Mbit connection to my old apartment until I moved abroad.

zen_1··on Thinking in a foreign language improves decision-making
The Arabic in the header image is about as fucked up as possible.

The letter ordering is wrong (ltr instead of rtl). The word ordering is wrong (ltr instead of rtl). Somehow they also managed to get the letters not to connect to each other.

Great job Guardian! 10/10

You weren't killed by the push, you were killed by the oncoming train. Big difference.

I wish your home is never fortunate enough to suffer such a US/EU "intervention"
zen_1··on Patience for after-hours work socializing is wearing thin
If it's truly like that, you're usually not recruiting at job fairs but through friends and friends of friends.

Also worth noting is that in many countries Pharmacists can prescribe certain classes of medicines, again excluding most stimulants and opioids. But need some ciprofloxacin? Just rock up to your pharmacy and ask.
zen_1··on Morocco earthquake kills more than 1,000
I'm also north african (in case the arabic in my parent comment didn't give it away). Can you even be racist against your own broad ethnic group (by asking a member of it to not just paint large swathes of it as "vile and barbaric", no less)?

You know what? Don't answer that last question.

zen_1··on Morocco earthquake kills more than 1,000
"Vile and barbaric" lmao. Is this the Arab equivalent of an uncle tom in the wild? عمو توم?

Are there issues with the treatment of women in north africa? Sure, and we should address that, but please keep your self-loathing to yourself.

zen_1··on Should the US implement a ‘robot tax?’
It wouldn't, my suggestion was sarcastic.
zen_1··on Should the US implement a ‘robot tax?’
I think we could combine all of those into an efficiency tax, any productivity that outpaces the baseline of what an average (otherwise untrained) highschool graduate can produce is taxed in proportion to the relative increase in productivity.
zen_1··on IBM promised to back off facial recognition, then signed a $70M contract for it
There are sunni and shia arabs too, that's a separate distinction. It's more that Iranians and Arabs are two distinct cultures with different languages and histories (though a lot of the more recent history is common or shared). It's like confusing Spain and Poland, yes, they're both European nations that use the latin alphabet, but you'd be wrong to call them both Iberian because of that
zen_1··on IBM promised to back off facial recognition, then signed a $70M contract for it
No, Arab implies that someone is either ethnically Arab, or that their mother tongue is a dialect of Arabic

zen_1··on The EU wants to cure your teen’s smartphone addiction
I benefited greatly from having access to Uber and GPS maps as a teen (I started using those at 12-13 iirc). They gave me a lot of freedom and independence from relying solely on my parents or shitty+expensive taxis for transportation.
