1. Do you have some estimate about the time it takes to go from a TN Visa (Mexican Citizen) to obtain a green card?

2. If, for some reason (layoffs, company dissapears, etc.) the whole green card process is not finished, then it means that i will not be able to get a new TN visa correct?

victorhn··on Arkansas waitress fired after getting $4,400 tip
As if they are going to come out and say, yeah we fire her because of the tipping event.

Even if they don't admit to themselves, that probably was the reason of the firing, or some quarrel about it, we humans are petty.

victorhn··on Ask HN: I feel so shallow and dumb when I see what other smart people are doing
You are smart, seems to be well off financially and still relatively young, so the future should not look that bad, probably you can get a younger girl too.

I am currently working on a TN2 visa (Mexican citizen), my company wants to sponsor me my H1B and then, if i got it, sponsor my GC. I heard that there is a route where you can go from TN2 visa directly to GC, but that the process is risky if not handled carefully. What is your view on this?

victorhn··on How to Work Hard
- Why is wealth inequality a problem? If average people is relatively wealthy (which i think is the case for USA), why does it matter that some people are very wealthy? This is different than some 3rd world countries where average people is poor and some very small percentage have wealth (and mostly due to corruption / crime / political influence)

- Rate of incarceration may also mean that USA does a good job of imparting justice / catch criminals.

- Healthcare costs looks like an issue, but socialized systems also have their problems (bad quality, wrong economic incentives for doctors to improve their practice, etc.)

I am from Mexico and am currently employed on a TN visa, if my company intends to start working remotely, is it valid to keep working under this visa if i won't be physically living on the USA (i would live in Mexico, but maybe travel to US some days per year to US) or should i switch to another schema (like working as a contractor)?

Also, what about working for some months on USA and other months on Mexico? Does the visa allow this scenario or are there chances the custom agent get more inquisitive about these frequent trips?

victorhn··on Ask HN: How do you mantain your current lifestyle in times of big income?

victorhn··on I am stressed out about interviews
Yes, there are people that good at algorithms, you just need to enter a contest at leetcode/codeforces/topcoder where you can just amaze yourself how some people can solve these difficult problems in such a little amount of time.

On the other hand, for FB and Google you just need to be decent enough at these questions not really a superstar. I would say if you can solve most medium problems in leetcode and occasionally a hard then you are good enough.

Worst case you just get rejected and life follows its normal course.

BTW, i have been rejected like 30 times from these companies, it does suck when they tell you, because you start doubting yourself, but then after a few days the feeling goes away.

Any chance there may be also opportunities for Mexicans? The TN visa is the same used for Canadians.
victorhn··on Ask HN: Prisoners Not Allowed to Study Programming?
The stereotype of SW engineers is that we are asocial, as in socially inept, but antisocial (as in breaking the rules of society) AFAIK we are not, if anything the stereotype is the opposite, we are seen as tranquil calm persons (even shy) respecting the laws around us.
victorhn··on Anthony Bourdain and the ‘Silent Epidemic of Male Suicide’
Men have to prove that they are "valuable" more often than women.

It depends on other factors, and is a generalisation, but i would say that a woman who is a "failure" may not have as gloomy prospects as if he were a man.

victorhn··on Ask HN: Are you more likely to apply for a job that discloses salary upfront?
Genuine question, but what is so difficult about reversing a linked list? I don't have the algorithm memorized, but i can deduce in 10 minutes at most.

There is no limited quantity. The process is very simple, basically you show the offer letter to the officer, answer some questions, prove you have a degree and you are done, no need for lawyer.

victorhn··on How to win the coding interview
We share the same struggle :). I have been in multiple processes where all goes right until the onsite interview where everything blows.

My gut feeling tells me is because i am a rather ugly guy and also somewhat of socially inept, so i should make a bad impression. Currently working in losing some weight and trying to improve my social skills.
