spaceguillotine··on Google threatens to cut off news after California proposes paying media outlets
Google: We can only exist on the free labor of others at every turn.
spaceguillotine··on Ford's battery flagship socked by mold sickness, workers say
union leadership, esp the IBEW have a history of not actually caring about safety but of making sure they get their due, AFL-CIO affiliated unions were part of keeping communism out of america at any cost and that was it.

https://inthesetimes.com/article/left-wing-union-afl-cio-imp...

The CIA helped them rise to power and retain it while also taking away from the workers.

spaceguillotine··on Jack Ma steps out from the shadows with morale-boosting post
there is zero link between hard work and wealth. There is a link between wealth and exploitation.
spaceguillotine··on Why can't my mom email me?
they did that already. you can sign up with just an account name now, i ditched my phone number from my account after it rolled out around a month ago.
spaceguillotine··on Saffron: The Most Expensive Spice
Expression of a recipe, such as the written instructions, photographs, and other creative elements, may be protected by copyright.

Ingredients list and weights fall outside protection as they are considered facts.

spaceguillotine··on 4D Knit Dress
There are places that do that in Hoi An, Vietnam and can allegedly retain your 3d scan for custom made clothing later without needing to visit. The fashion space is full of tech innovations like that we never see or know about unless you follow the clothing industry which is not hacker new's forte by any means, gonna bet the majority is looking for hoodies and jeans here.
spaceguillotine··on 4D Knit Dress
its like making nylon stockings but a dress, there is a video that shows the process that would answer a lot of your questions on the site near the bottom of the page
spaceguillotine··on Uber must pay wheelchair user $35,000, provide accessible rides
this was proven true by the Libertarian backed Anti-Mask Rallies in Vegas, they did not care if they got people sick because they couldn't be held liable.
spaceguillotine··on US prescription market hamstrung for 9 days (so far) by ransomware attack
i have to do this rationing, i skip a dose a couple times a month to slowly build up a reserve, it came in handy on multiple occasions where insurance was holding up meds.
spaceguillotine··on Apple to wind down electric car effort after decadelong odyssey
Ironically this was something Apple used to be good at but they killed off all the fun things with apple branding on them, now all you get is two campus exclusive shirt designs.

I'd love some retro apple "lifestyle" gear, throwback porsche racing jacket would be clutch right now with the yoots

spaceguillotine··on The AI bullshit singularity
Royalty agreement could make this work, every time their data gets used, they get a cut, it would be the only way i could see people agreeing to this.
spaceguillotine··on Tesla's Cybertrucks are rusting despite stainless steel
hopefully there isn't cow poop on the cars, Rust doesn't cause Tetanus on its own.
spaceguillotine··on Seattle ordinance intended to help app delivery workers is 'hurting' them
Seems more like delivery apps can't coexist with a living wage because the cost is too high. If the system only works on exploitation then it wasn't a good system before.

Everyone got drunk off VC backed loss taking to corner and monopolize the market but once they gotta turn a profit AND pay a living wage we quickly realize its never been a sustainable system.

spaceguillotine··on Does uBlock Origin bypass the latest YouTube anti-adblock script?
private browsing w/ ad block seems to be working, its only when logged in do i get a warning
spaceguillotine··on AI companies have all kinds of arguments against paying for copyrighted content
you joke but Google did exactly that, i worked on the program for a little while.
spaceguillotine··on We have decided to pause driverless operations across all of our fleets
this is exclusively how i pick people up from the airport now, tell them to take the link to northgate then i'll drive to get them from there, so much easier. I love the link but the home to link station bus rides are the slowest part of the journey, i've waited for the rapid ride buses for an hour before.
spaceguillotine··on New Entry-Level Lucid Air Pure RWD Starts at $78,675, Still with 410-Mile Range
if you have a short commute a used Leaf with 70mi of range is around $6k-7k, i know a few that bought some with really degraded batteries for $4k but still get them on their 20mi round trip daily commute and its cheaper than gas.

i'm on year 7 with a used Leaf and still have 90% battery capacity at 78k miles. It paid for itself in gas savings alone in 2 years was spending $300/mo on Gas for commuting, no one knew what used electric cars were when i got it and there was no Model 3 for sale yet so $11k for the car.

All i want is a ability to replace the battery without a long wait and to up the range. I'd even spend $7k to do so.

spaceguillotine··on Most demographers now predict that human population will plateau
oh we can and do have the people power, no one wants to pay what it actually costs now to do them. It's not a lack of people, its a lack of money going to the right places, especially on the maintenance aspects. Ai ain't gonna fix that part, the one hope you do mention is robotics for augementing human strength for care of the eldery but again, money isn't going to the right places, its just filling up the accounts of the already rich and just staying there now.

as an example the landlord of the place i'm at right now spends hundreds a month of a leaking faucet but won't spend anything to fix it or update the shower that its happening in, they take in over $8000/month on 3 units they illegally split it into that they bought in 2003 for $362,000 and is now valued at $1.3 million, yet it still has lead pipes and leaking faucets. There is lots of money for upkeep on every project, the gov and ownership class doesn't want to pay it until forced to.

spaceguillotine··on Google sued for negligence after man died following map directions
This is what happened when they cut back on staff maintaining map accuracy and went to the community model with MapMaker.

This team was way larger than 200 during my time there a decade ago and guess what? 2 years and you get the boot because they don't wanna pay to hire people who could actually do the work consistently. I loved working on POIs and Local. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/23/technology/google-maps-wo...

Apple Maps is eating their lunch right now and OSM is way prettier. Google tried to focus on charging large businesses like home depot to do internal store mapping instead of getting the best data they could for routing, the internal rule was if its within 100 feet it was close enough.

spaceguillotine··on X/Twitter has updated its terms of service to let it use posts for AI training
well that pushes me from not using my account to deactivating it for good. What a shame how he trashed that site in so little time.
spaceguillotine··on The Next New Thing: Venture Capital Stories
I see the growth of VC backed companies leading to the downfall of stable 20 year career path and loyalty to employee quality of life with everyone chasing this lottery model of hitting it big using VC money and selling out the company with an idea and exploiting more and more people to get it done.

How much of this innovation is baed on tech that was created and funded with public money and gov grants and then privatized when it became commercial and profitable. Sure seems like we stopped advancing the science of the commons when VCs started growing in the 80s along with bank deregulation.

spaceguillotine··on Ironically, Zoom tells employees to return to office for work
i still think every single one of these return to office orders are from investors that are heavily portfolio'd (new word!) in commercial real estate and are trying to keep the bubble from bursting like it should.

There is soooo much vacant office space right now and no one is lowering prices like should happen with this much surplus.

spaceguillotine··on SF's Anchor Brewing Company shutting down after 127 years
Pliny adapted to shifting tastes too, they reduced the grassiness and switched to bittering hop extracts to get a more mass appeal flavor and reduce waste with flower hops that would also soak up more wort. If you aren't constantly adjusting in beer you'll go the way of Anchor.
spaceguillotine··on Apple Shuts Down “My Photo Stream”
replaced my MacBook Pro after 10 years, not having the latest OS didn't bother me at all with it. Only had to spend $100 on a new battery for it after 5 years. in total, came out to $10.83 a month for the life of my MBP and it still works i just finally needed the ARM version for something.
spaceguillotine··on Titanic tourist submersible goes missing with search under way
when you put it like that i'm suddenly pro death trap
spaceguillotine··on NFL labor union is out almost $42M thanks to crypto collapse
Translation from Techbro to English "There's a sucker born every minute"
spaceguillotine··on Heavy electric trucks cheaper than diesel goods trucks
Titanfall 2 showed us the way!
spaceguillotine··on Neeva, would-be Google competitor, is shutting down its search engine
i tried it, and when i searched for how to build a website in 2023, it gave me a link to reddit on how to get a girlfriend... The top non discussion links were all the same as Google.
spaceguillotine··on Apple Restricts Employee Use of ChatGPT, Joining Other Companies Wary of Leaks
i sure hope so because Siri has gotten worse in the last 2 years, commands i used to use daily now fail saying it can't do that and then i try it on a different device, same prompt and it works. I do not understand why Siri works sometimes and just fails others. The HomePod Siri is especially bad now that I actually turned Siri off so my phone or watch would handle the request because they failed so often.
spaceguillotine··on Rising Share of U.S. Adults Are Living Without a Spouse or Partner
how tho? we almost have to have someone living with us to afford rent these days. I would love my own place.
