skhr0680··on Windows OS, Services and Apps: Network Connection Target Hosts (2021)
I think it’s a monospace font, which makes the keming look bad
skhr0680··on U.S. Air Force says it conducted successful hypersonic weapon test
Azovstal would have been a "perfect" time to use nuclear weapons, or on Poland for allowing passage of weapons to Ukraine.
skhr0680··on The lab-leak theory is looking stronger by the day
There’s a first time for everything, right? Don’t you think that it’s a pretty big coincidence that out of all the wet markets in the world, COVID-19 started in the one in a city with a major coronavirus research lab?
skhr0680··on Why isn't there any HiDPI resolution on my M1 Mac?
A real world example: on my 24” monitor, 1080p 1920x1080 native has noticeable jaggies on kanji, it looks smoother rendering at 2560x1440 and displaying that as 720p HiDPI
skhr0680··on Square-Enix sells all of its Western game studios and their games to Embracer
Maybe it’s just my filter bubble but for years Sony had such good marketing that I knew their flagship games and random facts about their consoles even when I didn’t own them myself.

I couldn’t tell you a single game on the PS5. I don’t know about other countries, but it’s like they’re not even trying in Japan

skhr0680··on Apple’s Self Service Repair now available
iFixit with real QC approved Apple parts would be awesome. I had a bad experience with a laptop screen from iFixit, their support's options were to accept a partial refund or ship it internationally to them at my own expense. I cut my losses and took the cash. In the end I felt like I would have been no worse off rolling the dice on an eBay part.
skhr0680··on Japan's Hometown Tax (2018)
I think you’re underestimating what a phenomenon Hikonyan was, most tourist attractions would be happy if their character made them an extra 1% of what Hikonyan made for Hikone Castle
skhr0680··on Japan's Hometown Tax (2018)
I think the modern mascots are inspired by Hikonyan (2007)
skhr0680··on Norway convinced Japan to love salmon sushi (2015)
In Japanese:

Sake: domestic fish, is never sold as sashimi

Salmon: imported fish

skhr0680··on The Superhero Industry Hates Children (2019)
They might think it’s OK to say “fuck”, as long as they only say it once every 120 minutes!
skhr0680··on Apple unveils the best photos from the Shot on iPhone Macro Challenge
A $20 extension tube or reversing ring will turn even any plain 50mm prime into a fine macro lens. There really isn’t an upper limit on lens hugeness or cost for people chasing that last 1% of performance.
skhr0680··on Apple introduces new version of iMovie featuring Storyboards and Magic Movie
iMovie is like other Apple software in that it's great if you're on the happy path but worse than useless the moment you try to do something that Apple thinks you shouldn't.

For my basic use of stabilizing clips then putting them in sequence with transitions, DaVinci Resolve was easier and less frustrating to use (for me).

skhr0680··on Human brain compresses working memories into low-res ‘summaries’
I’m bilingual from moving countries at a young age and now a lot of my early childhood memories are in the “wrong” language
skhr0680··on A Square Meal – Foods of the ‘20s and ‘30s
Squid ink ice cream is (was?) a fixture at service area-type places so I think most people have at least heard of it
skhr0680··on Backyard approaching lighting at Adelaide Airport
I don’t think The Castle is based on it but the Narita Airport runway is literally built around a house
skhr0680··on How the Channel Tunnel changed Europe (2019)
I’m guessing horses would get used to driving on the same side of the road the way humans do with cars
skhr0680··on A history of Hup, the jump sound of shooting games
You could “jump” off ledges
skhr0680··on Elden Ring Succeeds by Ignoring 20 Years of Open-World Design
I liked the puzzles in the BOTW dungeons, and nothing in them made me rage as much as Snowhead Temple, especially the very last puzzle in it
skhr0680··on Elden Ring Succeeds by Ignoring 20 Years of Open-World Design
The BOTW map is insane, every nook and cranny feels unique and memorable, and the features are spaced out perfectly. There were so many times I felt like I was being clever by eating stamina items to climb a cliff or parasail further… …to find a Korok at the exact spot I “cheated” to get to.

> Shrines and Korok leaves are chores

They’re designed to be fun if you discover them naturally instead of actively trying to get them all.

Getting 13 hearts and two stamina wheels only takes about half the shrines, and I felt like I had plenty of inventory space after 200 or so Koroks, not to mention the “reward” for going to the trouble of getting all of the Koroks

skhr0680··on Drawing Triangles on N64
“We won’t tell you how to use our console to its full potential because you might use it to its full potential” - Nintendo circa 1996
skhr0680··on Kim Jong-un stars in film of missile launch on North Korean TV
“Launch!”
skhr0680··on Kim Jong-un stars in film of missile launch on North Korean TV
Banzai in Korean is “Manse”
skhr0680··on Building a no-code toxicity classifier by talking to GitHub Copilot
> Sure, it makes mistakes and needs verification. But know what also makes mistakes and needs verification?

The problem is when it makes something that looks OK but does the opposite of what you want it to. See: machine translation

skhr0680··on Apple’s Universal Control
I hate magic spells like this but option+click on “Scaled” and you might get lucky.

Make sure you are using a good cable. Nothing made me hate cables like USB-C

skhr0680··on In Moscow, McDonald's packs up, radio falls silent and the brain drain begins
It really depends on the country. Malls are huge and packed in Japan
skhr0680··on It’s almost impossible to lose anything in Japan
> I understand they have a tough immigration system.

It's a joke (in a good way) compared to other developed nations, the whole process costs $50 or so.

> Short of getting a job there, how can a US citizen live there?

Be in the military, get posted to the Japanese office of your company, get married to a Japanese, or have a stack of cash

skhr0680··on Facebook and Instagram to temporarily allow calls for violence against Russians
If Russia wanted calling for their troops to die to be a Zuckable offense, they should have spent more time focus-grouping catchy phrases like “the smoking gun will be a mushroom cloud” and “regime change”
skhr0680··on Japan has declared today that the southern Kurils is their sovereign territory
It wasn't given to the Soviet Union, which is why the Soviets refused to sign the San Francisco peace treaty
skhr0680··on Japan has declared today that the southern Kurils is their sovereign territory
The Japanese government's position via Wikipedia

> Although by the terms of Article (2c) of the 1951 San Francisco treaty, Japan renounced all rights to the Kuril Islands, the treaty did not apply to the islands of Kunashiri, Etorofu, Shikotan and Habomai since they are not included in the Kuril Islands. Also, the Soviet Union did not sign the San Francisco treaty.

skhr0680··on Analysing the AI of Super Mario 64
> Few, if any NPCs can be attacked.

Sakon was a memorable case for me. I’m pretty sure he’s the only regular human you can kill in the whole series
