Not so long ago I wrote a guide on how to get GitHub Copilot running with a local model in Visual Studio Code. Since then Copilot subscriptions have got much more expensive, local models have got much more powerful and getting local Copilot up and running has got much easier. So I wrote an updated guide.

Wow, it's actually real:

If you're on an AMD platform Lemonade (https://lemonade-server.ai/) added image generation in version 9.2 (https://github.com/lemonade-sdk/lemonade/releases/tag/v9.2.0).

WSL doesn't have a virtualization layer, WSL1 did have but it wasn't a feasible approach so WSL2 is basically running VMs with the Hyper-V hypervisor.

Apple looks like it's skipped the failed WSL1 and gone straight for the more successful WSL2 approach.

I know LinkedIn is bad but a link to Twitter that links to LinkedIn is worse.

That’s 25 hours a month which is going to be plenty to get new developers hooked on this.

If you disable telemetry in the windows setting it also disables telemetry for PowerToys [0], I agree it's not ideal it's not hard.

[0] https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/11873#issuecom...

How does this compare to PowerToys Run[0] which is what I use instead of the current awful start menu and search in windows.

PowerToys Run has search built in and can search pretty much everything in windows including files, folders, windows, the registry, settings and more.

That's because you are in the other 1% of users, they're not saying 300 searches is the average, median or mean across all users.

Yes, it works well but there is a limit of 16k words. See this reddit comment thread [0] for more details, but if your documents are anywhere near that big then I'd say Postgres is definitely not the right tool for you.

I often see complicated search solutions implemented when PostgreSQL is just sitting there with its incredible FTS powers being ignored. To help some of the teams I'm working with get an idea of the power available to them I wrote up this two part article with a github repo for spinning up a db to follow along.

It's also supported in GitLab [0] Azure DevOps [1] and lots of other places [2]

Mermaid has experimental support for C4 - https://mermaid.js.org/syntax/c4c.html

Hungary desperately needs EU funds and it would have lost several billion euros is it had blocked this.

EdgeDB & EdgeQL would be one good example.

Agreed, EdgeDB[0] looks to be trying to solve a lot of SQL's perceived flaws with EdgeQL[1]. It's not the first attempt and I suspect it won't be the last but composability is explicitly one of the challenges it addresses.

For a visual tool I'd recommend giving IcePanel [0] a try.

For the diagrams as code solution, happily it looks like mermaid will soon support C4 [1] so their should be native support in lots of places soon (github, gitlab and lots more have built in support for mermaid)

For Run some or the the reasons I have it installed everywhere are:

> What does PowerToys Run do that the standard WIN+R run dialog doesn't?

-- Autocomplete

-- Search files, settings, services, the registy and more (all of these can be enabled, disabled or assigned to a shortcut e.g. settings is $ for me)

-- Open windows terminal with specific shell

-- Walk open windows, allow you to search currently open applications and browsers

> Or just hitting the WIN key to get the search dialog?

-- Not constantly try and open Bing and/or Edge

Here is the very first sentence from https://dotnet.microsoft.com:

"Free. Cross-platform. Open source. A developer platform for building all your apps."

The download page for .NET which includes downloads for Windows, MacOS and Linux is https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download

What the GP meant is exactly what they said, "C# and .net 6 are not windows-centric.", sadly it shares a name with .Net Framework which was windows centric.

Is anyone providing unofficial builds of Fuchsia? I can see from the article the requirement is to build it yourself but I'm lazy/time poor and I'd really like to try runnning Fuchsia in an emulator.

I know, it's always free to install but to unlock the addon features (e.g. keyboard shortcuts) requires a subscription.

This is a great tool and I'd happily pay for the addon features but a subscription pricing model really doesn't work for me. If the developer's reading please have a buy option so I can give you some money :)

In case you didn't know Office365 family only works with GoDaddy domains, they used to support other registrars but have dropped that support which is why I'm looking for an alternative.

It took me a week to go from requesting access to receiving access for my domain when I signed up earlier this month. I was already using cloudflare for my dns so maybe that sped things up?

It's worth pointing out that if you're in the UK, for reasons that I'm sure make sense to someone, magic mushrooms are very illegal. Courtesy of the Basement Project [1]:

* The 2005 Drugs Act amended the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 to clarify that both fresh and prepared (e.g. dried or stewed) magic mushrooms that contain psilocin or psilocybin (such as the ‘liberty cap’) are Class A drugs. This means it’s illegal to have this type of ‘magic mushrooms’ for yourself, to give away or to sell

* Possession is illegal and can get you up to seven years in jail and/or an unlimited fine.

* Supplying someone else, even your friends, can get you up to life imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.

I agree it's a valid question and it seems my suspicion is not the main reason. Based on the other replies to the parent it seems that choosing Gecko requires more work.

I suspect the answer is because of compatibility. Chromium has become the industry standard, everyone tests only on Chrome (and Safari for mobile) so you can expect fewer issues if you're based on chromium.

They also have a dedicated Music app called Plexamp which has clients for Android, iOS, Mac, Linux & Windows

Doesn't the success of Netflix help convince you?

That's the model Microsoft are going for with Game Pass, just pay us a fixed monthly fee and play any of the hundreds of games we have available on Android/PC/XBox.

Is anyone successfully using Thunderbird with Office 365 + Google for calendars and mail? I've found various plugins but never got both working consistently for both services. Imap, caldav, etc. are a breeze but unfortunately work requirements mean I need to use the two big non-standards.
