Depends on your use case but.. just only use WiFi and never put a (e)SIM in it.
pushupentry1219··on EU: Definition of "potential terrorists" opens door to broad information-sharing
Being a "Terrorist" is a badge of honour at this rate. The way they chop+change and broaden their definitions.

Let's also not forget, Nelson Mandela was branded as a terrorist.

pushupentry1219··on Being Raised by the Internet
Oh yeah no doubt. I'm more talking the specifics of the phrase "raised by the internet" and what it would mean to me, without the context of the article.
pushupentry1219··on Being Raised by the Internet
I actually agree with you here on all your points.

The chans in general aren't a huge issue, though nowadays, 4chan in particular IS pretty bad last time I checked.

I also don't like that my comment is at the top of the page it takes away from the article (on my screen it's third from top though).

pushupentry1219··on Being Raised by the Internet
As someone of the younger generation, I think "raised by the internet" these days is extremely toxic and non-productive not at all what the author here is talking about in this lovely post.

When someone says "I was raised by the internet", I immediately think: social media addiction, 4chan and other online obscenities. But this is completely based on my own personal experience.

My point here is not related to this lovely post at all, it's just that I always have associated "raised by the internet" with negative connotation.

pushupentry1219··on Legalizing sports gambling was a mistake
Its already expensive as it is, is it not? Like in a "people are losing heaps of money from their sour bets" kind of way.

My thought is it being more expensive is not going to stop gambling addicts since they are already willing to lose heaps of money by making the bet in the first place.

I agree about banning ads 100%.

pushupentry1219··on Legalizing sports gambling was a mistake
> "God" and religion also aren't particularly interested in gambling, or it would have been forbidden in those holy books.

The Quran, which id consider among those as a "Holy book" condemns gambling pretty outright multiple times.

Then again, their printer was probably locally-networked and the documents would come in from the webserver and then be passed to the printer.
pushupentry1219··on Attacking UNIX Systems via CUPS
Corporate organisations make use of platforms like Nessus/Tenable to provide this continuous vuln scanning for compliance reasons.

Under the hood its basically running an nmap scan and spitting out a PDF report.

pushupentry1219··on Attacking UNIX Systems via CUPS
You lose job control, but I've just done a netcat to a port on my printer with my document converted to PostScript and it works fine

pdf2ps <doc> - | nc <printer> 9001

pushupentry1219··on Shizuku: App that lets you use system APIs with higher privileges without root
I thought droid-ify does auto-update without shinzuku (or root)? I turned it off because I don't like auto-update, but I could've sworn it still works.

pushupentry1219··on Is Tor still safe to use?
Comment is saying: never use regular internet ONLY use hidden services so you never need to exit the network through an exit node
pushupentry1219··on Microplastics in the olfactory bulb of the human brain
Are these filters sufficient to filter out microplastics?
pushupentry1219··on Is Tor still safe to use?
> Tor was literally developed by the intelligence community. I’m sure there are a variety of means to gather actionable intelligence from it, with or without the cooperation of the exit node volunteers.

These two statements make little sense together. It was originally developed by the Navy. Okay. So why would they design it from the get-go with such a fatal flaw that would risk their own adversaries gathering "actionable intelligence" from it?

I'd like to stress if we're talking about the Navy's involvement, then you're questioning the design of the whole thing from the very beginning, not just the current implementation.

pushupentry1219··on Is Tor still safe to use?
But an adversary with enough money could just buy servers from multiple ISPs, right?
pushupentry1219··on Warning: DNS encryption in Little Snitch 6.1 may occasionally fail
> Maybe things are drastically different on macOS, but getaddrinfo() is the way to resolve names on Linux and I suspect the *BSDs.

I'm not sure if this is the case in this case, but it might be worth noting that some system functions with the same name have drastically different internal/implementation differences between Linux/*BSD/MacOS. With there being differences between the *BSDs too.

So on some systems one function call is "the way", because its been maintained over the years, but then on another it might actually be old and not useful.

Multi-profile support has been in FF since I started using it (at least 5 years ago?). The profile picker isn't as pretty as the Chrome window you get but its definitely there.
pushupentry1219··on Intel Solidifies $3.5B Deal to Make Chips for Military
The program could've been named Secure Enclave before apple named their thing Secure Enclave, due to the program's "secretive" nature.

Yeah. However, (and this applies to the parent comment as well), running a Tor exit node is entirely different to just "using Tor"

I don't meant to be rude, but I am going to be: have you had your head in the sand for the last.. decade and a half? Something has gone terribly wrong and it's late stage capitalism.

Well... just rig the machines again to give out $23,000 to the players over a handful of games!

pushupentry1219··on The Yubikey Is the Digital Seatbelt We Need
Yeah if any service supports it - it's usually pretty seamless process to set it up.

Now maybe if you're talking about using it for SSH, then it gets slightly more tricky depending on your config. Then again, it's definitely under 10 steps to set that up as well.

This looks like incredibly good advice based on the author's real experience! It's very well commutated+written. Props to the author.

I'm a young man, but I'll definitely be using some of these in the future as I'm very early in my tech career.

pushupentry1219··on FB partner admits phone microphones listen to people talk to serve better ads
Same with Android nowadays too. I don't understand how this can happen without the OS's knowledge, unless it's a major security exception made by apple+google on purpose (which I doubt as you do), or a major zero day vulnerability they are exploiting, of which there would probably be evidence of this.
pushupentry1219··on We've Got Depression All Wrong. It's Trying to Save Us
> You cannot get them to do anything. They only care about how sad they feel and care nothing about the effects their constant bed hiding imposes on all the people around them. It is utterly impossible to get them to treat themselves because... That involves getting out of bed .

Please don't use your anecdata to lump all depressed people into this bucket. I've been depressed for over a decade (diagnosed MDD) and this does not reflect me or my actions at all. In fact I've felt insanely guilty that my mood affects the others around me. This just causes me mask the depression, making me less likely to reach out to anyone when things get bad.

I guess I'd be what you'd call high-functioning depression. I've lived with it for so long its all I know. I moped my way to school, I did my work poorly, barely passed. Now I mope my way to work and I work and when I'm not burnt out I do a good enough job and then I go home and cry and go to sleep.

I would love to spend all day in bed, mostly because I'm constantly tired, and mostly because it's far more comfortable than doing anything else. But I have enough will and discipline to get up and do normal shit even if I'm cripplingly sad, bored, tired, and sometimes even teary eyed all day.

As for exercise, it helps me immensely! But I have in no way been cured by exercise alone.
