I'm currently in the "misguided" group as I parent 3 kids under 10 but I appreciate your viewpoint.
I had similar experience and want my kids to learn that sense that they can accomplish anything by just learning how to do it from others on the internet.
But still, everything today is offered on a platter. There's little resistance to overcome. No installing, no files, no configuration. I think that's what we accomplish by giving the technology step by step, starting with offline machines with CD ROMs. If they can just Google any game ever made and play it in-browser in a JS emulator then where's the learning and the struggle before the reward?
Having experienced both, and needed both, I certainly have more positive things to say on the socialized version than the privatized version. Does the US system not hopelessly strain people by its cost? Does the US system not require positive rate of insurance payers to sustain it?
What role did capitalism have in this revelation for you? I don't think it caused the chicken so perhaps you're referring to the Internet which most certainly was not due to capitalism.
Not envy, no. I think you're looking at the problem from a very limited angle. I would classify it as more disillusion at the system that enables there to be billionaire owners of a company with workers on welfare.
I have everything I need, so I'm not envious. I want to live in a society where as many others can live in comfort and not just a few at the top.
People will lose ability to be happy for other people's "success" when there's no hope they can achieve it. Likely it's not a signal of just being rich but instead a signal of rich vs poor. When there's a disappearing middle and it's just a wide gap between rich and poor then yes I can see why "rich" is a negative signal.
You can do this already for slack in chromium browsers. Click Menu -> More Tools -> Create Shortcut. The app will run in an app window and NOT a tabbed browser window, just like a PWA, with it's own dock icon and cmd-tab icon.
