nnash··on Ask HN: Are you addicted to video games?
Probably. I have devoted several thousand hours of my life to L4D, L4D2, TF2 and Dota 2. Even more to counter-strike and other hl mods not even bothering to mention all the MMOs I've played.
nnash··on What The Chinese Tech Industry Is Like
Cyberport and Science park in Hong Kong are both quite good.

nnash··on Ask HN: What are you using Go for?
Dotabuff? Awesome work if its you.
nnash··on Bitcoin up 166% over the past month
I'm assuming this was all triggered by the DPR/Silk Road bust and subsequent seizure of 30M USD in bitcoins.
nnash··on Ask HN: Working as a web developer in SE Asia
Hong Kong, hands down. It's way more fun than Singapore (personal opinion) and there are virtually zero local developers (A friend of mine works at an incubator there and several of the startups have had open positions for months on end).
nnash··on My Internship Experience as a 13-Year-Old
>How do people get that feeling?

It's more about the nostalgia of childhood and the memories you make as a kid.

nnash··on Steam Controller
>I don't see how my right thumb could be as precise as moving the mouse

It's a controller, it will never be as precise as a mouse. Trust me when this thing comes out people will be complaining about how they're suddenly losing every game of TF2.

nnash··on FlameStower - USB charger powered by fire
Wait I'm confused, where does fuel come into this? All you need to start a campfire is a bit of flint and kindling.
nnash··on Mozilla's New Fira Typeface
It's mainly because the raster images are going to be more accurate than @font-face as they'll display properly amongst all browsers and OSes just like a PDF would.

edit: Also the most obvious reason (which I forgot to mention) is that they are type specimens and type specimens are (AFAIK) always done in raster images.

nnash··on Mozilla's New Fira Typeface
>I'm really curious as to why they would use images over font-face in the style guide examples

>style guide examples

You just answered your own question

nnash··on The Dribbblisation of Design
>I'm pretty sure "UX" was created as a term in response to the market getting flooded with stylists

UX is an umrbella term[1] for usability related disciplines; it's recent conflation as a buzz-word has led to the misinterpretation of it's original meaning.

>UX won't get similarly watered down?

It already has been seeing as how no one seems to know what it means.

nnash··on Semantic UI – A language for sharing UI
I guess my point was you'd have to refactor your html and css as well as the property itself
nnash··on Your name is way too long for your ID
It can fit her name; however, the way they stored her name in the db cut it off by a few letters or so. Your reading comprehension doesn't seem to be very good.
nnash··on Your name is way too long for your ID
>why should official systems allow for names of arbitrary length?

> A standards-compliant name should be issued

>More on topic, why should official systems allow for names of arbitrary length?

These are really incendiary statements (a local may accuse you of being insensitive[1]) that places the fault of the issue on the aboriginals of Hawai'i for observing their traditions rather than the programmers who should have known better. From what I understand DB's get re factored all the time and if the drivers license can fit her name I fail to see the issue.

nnash··on Semantic UI – A language for sharing UI
Yeah that one was too specific for my liking I don't think you should use colors names like 'red' as a class. What if you decide you don't want it to be red?
nnash··on Michael Dell buys back PC company he founded in $24.8bn deal
Just out of curiosity why didn't you give up and order elsewhere? There are countless sites to buy computers from, even dell computers like the one you eventually received.
nnash··on Welcome to the United States: Discriminated, detained, searched, interrogated
The article states in the first paragraph that it's exploring edge cases from a thousands* of foreign travelers.

*surprising that they don't give a real number.

nnash··on Ask HN: How can I create an effective personal coding bootcamp?
Check out sites like http://www.codecademy.com/ http://teamtreehouse.com/ and https://www.codeschool.com/ and check if there is anything relevant on https://www.coursera.org/ for something free to get you started you should checkout http://prework.flatironschool.com
nnash··on UX trumps UI (and I can prove it)
In summation this article seems to say that product experience and a functional tuftian interface outweighs the need for UI by highlighting products like VIM and Google AdWords. If you're making this case I don't understand why you would use "power user" products as an example over an ATM machine; something the average consumer uses on a daily basis.
nnash··on Show HN: Instagram and Facebook Photos Delivered Monthly
>You can also tag photos on the fly with #SnapPic so they make the print for that month.

Did you even read the website?

nnash··on Ask HN: How do you stylize jQuery Mobile?
Have you taken a look at their ThemeRoller?

nnash··on Why I Changed My Mind On Weed
>Interesting that you don't get high any more.

At 5 joints a day OP probably has built up a pretty high resistance to THC. Speak to enough every-day smokers and you'll find they go on breaks every once in a while to address this.

>I wondered whether MMJ would fall into the category of "do not drive or operate machinery" whilst using.

Depends on the strain, if you're smoking Indicas then yes you should not operate machinery.

nnash··on Blink tag removed from Firefox
<table> wasn't actually abused; it just happened to be the best way to do things until CSS 2.1 was rolled out.
nnash··on Ubuntu Edge
I really think they're overestimating who they perceive their target audience to be. 830USD is more than an unlocked iPhone 5...
nnash··on Valve releasing Dota2 for Linux
Yep, I've won games where my team has been behind in economy 10k and come back because from one lucky teamfight because the other team misplayed.
nnash··on Movie Subtitle Fansite Raided By Copyright Industry And Police
One thing I've noticed in pirated copies of films is that if there is a language being spoken other than english there will often be no translation for it which is especially annoying when a foreign language scence goes on for two or three minutes. I've used http://www.opensubtitles.org/en and vlc to get around this.
nnash··on Valve releasing Dota2 for Linux
Dota is no more difficult to learn than games like starcraft IMO the only difference is aRTS games have significantly worse communities than pure rts games.
nnash··on Hikikomori: Why are so many Japanese men refusing to leave their rooms?
The international version of the term Hikikomori is NEET http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEET
nnash··on In the Bible Belt, Offering Atheists a Spiritual Home
From my experience as an agnostic I've been heckled more by my own family than anyone else. My world view is basically opposite of theirs and I've learned to just not open my mouth when they begin talking about it (politics, religion etc). It makes for very uncomfortable family gatherings for me :/
nnash··on Don’t go to art school
Art school is no different than any other academic institutions; you get an assignment sheet with a breakdown of what you're supposed to do and if you don't follow those guidelines you get an F. The hardest part of this for most artists is the artist statement (the concept of the piece) and the defense thereof in critique. This is likely where your granddad struggled.
