nelsonmandela··on Food Prices Are Soaring Faster Than Inflation and Incomes
Closed borders, no students/backpackers, farmers unprepared to pay minimum wages to Australians is resulting in a lot of produce being plowed back into the ground. I just don't know how this economy keeps rolling.

How can farmers meet the payments on their loans?

Reading 'The great depression: A diary' and looking at the world today just shocks the hell out of me. We are following it step for step and the crash is going to be devastating.

nelsonmandela··on Why no one is making money with cryptocurrency
I purchased 300,000 GRT on the 1st of January this year for 120~ ETH which I had been holding forever.

As of this morning in total it is worth around $700k AUD and earns 15% APY by delegating to an indexer.

nelsonmandela··on Show HN: A network of weather stations to help prevent pesticide spray drift
What are the most dangerous pesticides in use in Australia? Are farmers liable for damage now or in the past from improper application of pesticides?
nelsonmandela··on Violence against Asian Americans and why 'hate crime' should be used carefully
The media is ignoring the race of the perpetrators the same way they always have[0] - A case of "dog bites man" is not newsworthy because we are all desensitized and have come to expect certain behaviours from certain groups of people. When "man bites dog" the media naturally writes pieces on it as it is rarer and more interesting.

nelsonmandela··on Remote-work surveillance software is vile
My co-workers at a major Australian bank get dressed in front of their laptop webcam because they think the megacorp we work for would never infringe on their privacy like that.
nelsonmandela··on On Anti-Asian Hate Crimes: Who Is Our Real Enemy?
tl;dr for you: blacks can do no wrong, asians are historically racist and although whites are almost completely absent from perpetrating these recent hate crimes its their fault.

nelsonmandela··on Elon Musk is reportedly under SEC investigation over Dogecoin tweets
If I posted the same thing as Elon would the same laws apply to me? Or is this a circumstance whereby him being a CEO it plays out differently?
nelsonmandela··on Interest by subregion on Google Trends for Satoshi Nakamoto – 1/1/04 – 1/1/05
Is the implication that SN was googling himself from Indiana at this time to see what came up? Or perhaps some research in that vein?

Here's the same search but for japan

nelsonmandela··on Memory Techniques from Vedic Learning [pdf]
There is error correction built in to the chants. Really advanced stuff, but I expect nothing less from those who authored the vedas.

nelsonmandela··on Ferret becomes first North American endangered species to be cloned
There are so many species that could be saved with far less high-tech means. Allowing them to be kept as pets could be a massive boost. You only need to look at american big cats to see the success. A few regulations to promote genetic health and you'll take a load of animals of the critically endangered list.
nelsonmandela··on Scientists Achieve Real-Time Communication with Lucid Dreamers in Breakthrough
If anyone is interested in using dreams as a part of spiritual practice I recommend reading 'The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep' by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche. Carrying awareness from wakefulness to sleep is one of those things in your life you'll never forget.

Kinda sad that only 18% of participants could respond. Who knows, maybe you could have whole groups of people entering one anothers dreams.. Would be great for interrogations, setting up archetypal areas like airport checkpoints to gain access to the identification part of someones subconscious. Might be less tinfoil than you think.

nelsonmandela··on Cryptomedia, NFTs, and the Next Internet
Hey this looks great. Are there any referral codes to receive unique stuff? God writing this makes me feel like a shill trying to generate hype.
nelsonmandela··on Cryptomedia, NFTs, and the Next Internet
Man a card game based on NFTs would kill. No concern for fakes when purchasing, perfect knowledge of supply and card history. I can't wait for this NFT stuff to kick off and murder blizzard/activision/EA models where they print money by pretending certain items are scarce.
nelsonmandela··on France to ban far-right group Generation Identity
This article is trash and extremely biased.

"A group persisted with shock tactics over the following years – including blocking the road linking the “Calais jungle” migrant camp to the city centre in 2016 and by infiltrating one of its members into the NGO SOS Méditerranée, which helps migrants in danger of death at sea, in 2018."

This NGO was involved in human trafficking and was caught.

The rest of the article is disgusting and just as false. There is a lie or white lie in every paragraph. It is just so despicable.

nelsonmandela··on Controlled levitation of nanostructured thin films
This is cool

I wonder if it could be used as a sort of permanent radar chaff if coated with aluminium or something

nelsonmandela··on Caltech to Remove the Names of Robert A. Millikan and Other Eugenics Proponents
Damn, 130 million americans were once under forced sterilization laws pushed by the human betterment foundation (HBF) which was chaired by those guys.

It seems like such a waste of time to do all this renaming stuff for a bunch of hyper-sensitive freshmen (freshpeople?) but some of the sterilizations were for things like 'insanity' 'feeblemindedness' 'mentally diseased' 'mentally defective' and applied to you if you were below 70% of the average intelligence of your age group.

I certainly wouldn't like to live under those laws yet some part of me still values eugenics. Vasectomy for thee but not for me I guess.

I remember something about nazi schools teaching children the sterilised were victims of their ancestors, not nazi society. From what I recall they even had laws against treating the sterilised with contempt. Very progressive.

Here's some newspaper clippings by the HBF.

nelsonmandela··on Perseverance Rover lands on Mars [video]
Apparently the copter was made with off-the-shelf parts.

I wonder if I can cop a replica somewhere, and how it would fly considering it is built for martian air

nelsonmandela··on Anger and Fear as Asian American Seniors Targeted in Bay Area Attacks

nelsonmandela··on Myopia treatment 'smart glasses' from Japan to be sold in Asia
Vision guides the growth of the eye: if spectacle lenses cause images to fall either behind or in front of the retina (hyperopia or myopia, respectively), eye growth compensates for the optical effects of the lenses
