> It's actually really simple. An ability to see the world accurately was never a necessary condition for survival, so long as the model in your head was good enough to assure you could eat and reproduce.

Did you just read this in the latest Scott Adams post? I also agree with the way he is framing these issues. The Guy is a master persuader after all.

Why polítics isn't been flagged anymore?
meira··on [dead]
Shouldn't this thread be flagged? HN, HN...
meira··on Ask HN: Moonlighting and how to handle it?
Is the second job "official"? Here in Brazil, no office rule can force you to disclosure to your employeers of other gigs (unless you work for government). Here, you sell 8 hours of your day and what you do in the free time is up to you (neither a NDA can change this).
meira··on Ask HN: What server side language/framework did you choose and why?
Clojure, because it is Lisp, run on the JVM, node and browser.
meira··on Ask HN: What service would you pay $1k/mo for?
A service that makes me make $2k/mo before pay
meira··on DeepMind's Mustafa Suleyman says general AI is still a long way off
An AI that calculates how to fix social problems would suggest SV billionaries to give up their money and power. We are a long away off from this, and not technologically.
meira··on To avoid war, would you support prominent opensources licenses from Putin?
And why would GNU supports the enemies of Rússia?
meira··on To avoid war, would you support prominent opensources licenses from Putin?
Avoid? What you are suggesting would be a big reason to go to war.
meira··on Ask HN: How many years before driverless cars are commonplace?
With exclusive roads, witihn 5 to 10 years. Without, 50 or maybe never. Imo we are nowhere near cars driven by buggy code. And there are no signs that of the opposite, only wishful thinking.
meira··on Reddit cracks down on abuse as CEO apologizes for trolling the trolls
And Google. And Facebook.
meira··on Reddit cracks down on abuse as CEO apologizes for trolling the trolls
Top down narrative. Reddit CEO didn't troll the trolls, it was a huge mistake that can put in check the entire company. TechCrunch could write 99 better stories about this issue than this piece of propaganda.

It also reminds me Hillary campaign (and their MSM friends) calling half of US voters deplorable.

meira··on Reddit cracks down on abuse as CEO apologizes for trolling the trolls
"Trolling the trolls" is a very stupid euphemism. The mainstream media is losing all credibility built in the past decades and seems to not be able to figure out how to halt the proccess (while changing nothing about the "values" [and people] they protect).
meira··on A big blow for Meteor?
Meteor didn't catch up with the expectation. Arunoda is a great developer, the biggest name in Meteor Community. I don't see a bright future ahead for them.
meira··on How much would you pay for a Spotify for news?
Nothing. I prefer free news the same way I prefer torrent for music.
meira··on Ask HN: Will Google do something with Ad blockers?
I like it. Google (and FB) is very intrusive and must serve us better. I hope ad blocker is harming their perspectives enough for a change.
meira··on An Open Letter to My Boss, IBM CEO Ms. Ginni Rometty
Neither that their bad decisions would gone away after they left the company.
meira··on Ask HN: How to get out of the Facebook cycle, keeping the good parts
I let it go and it happened as you are predicting: worked very well personally and very bad professionally. It was a good tradeoff, but now, 1 year later, I'm planning to get back and do a better use.
meira··on Uganda is shutting down schools funded by Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates
Paying taxes would be a better social counter-part for their huge profit. Uganda government is right, imo. Let them manage education, not foreign corporations.
meira··on Ask HN: Node vs. .NET Core
Dude, don't get too personal.
meira··on False CNN-porn report shows how fast fake news spreads
It is, more than anything, an advice to CNN e MSM that enough is enough. Nobody respects them more than what they give us.
meira··on Russian propaganda effort helped spread ‘fake news’ during election, experts say
All these Russians accusation thing is fake news. Very professional.
meira··on Russian propaganda effort helped spread ‘fake news’ during election, experts say
You are just saying that MSM way of handling fake news is more professional than alt right fake news. I think it only makes the matter worse.
meira··on Ask HN: How often do you get rejected for “lack of passion”?
I don't think anybody is passionate working for others in the long term. And mostly young and inexperienced people are passionate until they get the full picture.
meira··on Venezuela’s PdVSA Misses $404M Payments on Bonds
So it was indeed an imperialist plot?
meira··on We Tracked Down a Fake-News Creator in the Suburbs
To me, both HN and Silicon Valley also propagate racism and fascism. It wasn't yesterday that all news about tech was the lack of diversity? When did Silicon Valley switched place from cause of the problem to be the cure? There is a long road ahead.

> But the agenda of HN feels to me like "have productive, civil discourse, in a generally pro-technological advancement vein"

I agree with this. That is why I'm here. But here we also have a lot of censorship and imposed moral and behavior rules frequently unfair toward some types of discussions or arguments.

meira··on Ask HN: Node vs. .NET Core
> The JS ecosystem is nowhere near .NET's. And C# is way more enjoyable

Really? This reply looks like a sponsored one. M$ is investing high in content marketing.

meira··on Ask HN: Node vs. .NET Core
Why do .NET Core seems to be a game changer? M$ is nowhere near to be a game changer in anything, imo.

EDIT: no reply, a lot of downvotes. A lot of people love it, nobody use?

meira··on Germany’s Chinese investment problem
> There is an apparent trend of Planet Earth turning into Planet China recently.

Not planet earth, Planet US.

meira··on Software Engineer Cheat Sheet
Lol. A software Engineer that worked with her would write a really fun reply. This way of thinking is a the kind of bs we hear from guys (and girls) in a suit. A fun experiment is to change "software Engineer" for "civil Engineer" or "Chemical Engineer" having a "business person" saying how to work. It is awkward how them don't feel stupid.
