> Smells like invasion.

No, it doesn't.

What country is using what army to invade USA?

> We now know they're from a select group (of Norwegians in this case) with certain tastes no more noteworthy or transcendent than any of ours.

Only the nobel peace prize is handed out by Norway. What would you consider an example of nobel bait?

I made flash cards when I read atomic habits as an exercise as I wanted to put some of the ideas from Andy Matuschak to the test. I remember and have internalized more from this book than any other self help book I have read. I can barely remember the titles of the other books I've read. For some reason, I never read a self help book like this again despite how successful it was.

On the flip side, the code that he originally wrote would never scale to a billion dollars. It was wildly inefficient. Someone with a bit more experience as a game developer, someone a bit senior if you will, was necessary to turn the idea into what it is today.

Talk to people and be curious why they don't value code reviews.

How would you go about proving such a thing?

Kagi gave me the same

What paper was that?

I think dict(name=name, age=age) can be definitely be more readable and ergonomical to write than {"name": name, "age": age}.

Can you elaborate on point 3. Did you fix the deficiencies using supplements or a changed diet? On what time scale did you see improvements?

I think this is an expectation thing. People expect to be able to figure it out in time x. They expect they'd have to use y time to find the solution in the docs. And people will most often estimate that x <<< y, having been burned by bad documentation before. People will often be disappointed that their search through the docs didn't get them any answers and most people will have strong memories of "figuring it out eventually" by throwing spaghetti at the wall long enough.

You can set the location for your search, but I find it a bit tedious. You either have to push two buttons (advanced search+change location) or do the search+change location. This is my main gripe with Kagi so far.

edit: I just realized there should be a search bang for this and indeed there is. Adding !countrycode to your query works. Still a bit tedious on phone, but helps on computer.

Competitive RTS, programming and being able to stand on my hands for minutes at the time left me with wrists that hurt all the time. After I started climbing all wrist and back pain has disappeared.

This sounds like spiritual bypass, which is a failure mode of mindfulness a lot of people can fall into. You say it drives your wife crazy, so it seems that being in this state doesn't actually help you resolve issues between you and your wife. It only numbs you to the conflict and puts the whole burden on your wife.

> The writing style of this article makes me think about the periods when a lot of impulses are happening erratically on in my mind, and I can't seem to get the thoughts to align.

What has characterized those periods of time? What changed? I don't think I've ever not felt like this.

If this is a description of your own experience then I would very much recommend reading No Bad Parts by Richard C. Schwartz, if you haven't done so already. It will probably resonate with you and hopefully give you some tools to expand the process you're describing.

How can I effectively approach extending Python with Rust? I encountered some challenges while attempting to translate Python objects to Rust. My intuition suggests that it's more straightforward to work with arrays or dictionaries of primitive types. Could you share your approach and perhaps point me to some helpful examples or resources for better understanding?

I had all sorts of random pains throughout my back/arms. After I started climbing almost everything disappeared. Being forced to stretch your hands above your body a few days a week is probably healthy for a programmer.

This was my immediate thought as well! Can someone more mathematical say if this is an unreasonable thought?

If you missed it, I think a lot of the discussion in this thread will be interesting for you. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34272834

I've found having a device (I use a remarkable) where you can erase writing without making a huge mess makes it easier to improve as well. I tend to speed up which ruins my handwriting or my mind moves faster than my pen and I end up skipping letters. On paper I would have to use a rubber and the page ends up being an ugly mess, which makes correcting mistakes very unappealing. Having an electronic devices rewards fixing mistakes, because the page ends up looking better afterwards, instead of worse.

What do you inspect on your recordings?

> - customer3.jpg: I didn't notice anything significant, but it just looks like an image taken straight off TPDNE. Do "vibes" count?

Look at the background, does it make sense? Tell me what the background to the left of hear head is. Look at her earbobs, how often do people wear different ones in each ear? Does the left earbob look like anything?

> If you are coffee afficianado, luwak is a must.

No, it is not. If we disregard the ethical issues surrounding the coffee, this is what a renowned roaster has to say about the coffee

""" Kopi Luwak. Made from poop, smells like poop and tastes like poop. A complete ripoff to buy in to… """

You probably don't want to test 1 day vs 2 weeks. At day 1 the beans have not degassed enough to release all their flavor unless you take special care during the brewing process. Around 1 week after roast is optimal for a regular v60 brew. 2 weeks isn't long enough for the beans to have gone (very) stale. After 3 weeks is when the taste really drops off.

What brewing method did you use, regular cupping procedure?

The 10k hours number is also dubious. It just happens to be the average number of hours students at some special violin school have spent in solitaire practice by the time they turn 18 (or what ever age they apply for the school).

Adam was very effective when it got introduced so it was widely adopted. Since then only models that work well with Adam have made it from the idea stage to actually working. I think there's reason to believe we have over fit our model architectures to our loss functions and optimizers.

I don't know what type of ML you do, but my experience is that it is hard to pin point poor model evaluation as being the reason for poor performance in production (especially if you have an interest in protecting your ego). It can be hard enough to figure out if you even have poor performance in production as you often don't know how well you could/should be doing. I have recently started thinking about what part of the performance issues I have are due to poor evaluation vs under-specification. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to tease the two apart.

Many of the replies so far seem to focus on what you can do for others. What about taking the opposite perspective. How do you relate to your own vulnerabilities? How do you comfort yourself when things are bad or you made a mistake? Do you have patience for your own vulnerabilities or do go directly to self-flagellation for your short comings? If you do the latter, start by fixing this within yourself and how you respond to others will follow naturally.

> - It’s failed to stop the pandemic in any meaningful way

One of the nordic countries has 10x more infections than the first wave and 0.5x people in intensive care. While the vaccines have failed to stop the pandemic, I disagree that the contribution is not meaningful.
