laurensr··on C# Raw String Literal Proposal
I stand corrected, thank you.
laurensr··on A Java library for technical analysis
In finance, technical analysis is an analysis methodology for forecasting the direction of prices through the study of past market data, primarily price and volume [1]

laurensr··on Wikipedia and irregular data: how much can you fetch in one expression?
This project reminds of what Wikidata does: organize facts as semantic triples [1] using inheritance in the way OOP does.

Example about our planet: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q2

laurensr··on How to Destroy ‘Forever Chemicals’
Belgium is currently handling a huge pollution scandal with PFAS [1]. The media are using very different terminology, covering up the fact that they'll be along "forever".

laurensr··on Software Development Languages: Haskell
Trivia: the recently posted PostgREST project was written in Haskell.

laurensr··on A Primer on Bézier Curves
Is it just me or do the sliders lose focus after the slightest change? This prevents me from dragging the slider to different values using my cursor to view the changes smoothly.
laurensr··on That Magical Word: Workstation
You made me realize again how much I miss the 1920x1200 screen of my HP 8740w. I'm on a ZBook now, and even though full HD, or a multiplier thereof, is more standardized, I still miss 16:10 enormously.
laurensr··on Aranese: Spain's little-known language
I disagree wholeheartedly.

Although an AI engine would probably consider this 'better' and 'more efficient' this doesn't mean it's morally the right thing to do.

laurensr··on Dockerizing a Programming Language
Docker on WSL2 kind-of runs on the host, though.
laurensr··on _Application.Run(Object, Object, Object, Object, Object, Object, Object, Object
Do note that the created map is immutable. However, you could pass the created map to the constructor HashMap (or another type) to obtain a mutable copy of the Map created using Map.of
laurensr··on Dockerizing a Programming Language
When you're running multiple projects expecting the same globally installed library or shell command (but a different version), building/running in docker is a breeze: each container can have its own set of dependency versions.
laurensr··on Ask HN: Twilio suspended account because someone sent us a fraud text
Or base64 encode the orginal message :p
laurensr··on Chatbots: Still dumb after all these years
What struck me is that the good solutions are trained on non-English languages. When I contacted these companies about offering their service in English or my native language, the best they could come up with is putting something like Google Translate in front of their solution.
laurensr··on How do I open the Mercedes EQS’s hood?
As a non-native English speaker, I've always wondered why the term 'internal' is included in ICE. Is it because the combustion takes place in a chambers somewhere inside the engine?
laurensr··on Gameboy CT scan – design lessons learned
I regret to see they skipped the Gameboy Advance SP and Gameboy Micro. The former was quite popular because it was the last console that played Gameboy Color games.
laurensr··on Where is your next song coming from?
May I suggest prepending "Ask HN:" to this post's title?
laurensr··on The Pinouts Book by NODE
The remarkable thing is that it is fast and SEO-friendly out of the box because it doesn't use any kind of SPA framework
laurensr··on What are Attackers after on IoT Devices?
Often they want to use them as a massive botnet for DDoS attacks.
laurensr··on Tell HN: Microsoft 365 domain name hell
Unfortunately this only applies to "unmanaged" tenants which are no longer associated with another active tenant. My case is different: the previous domain name owner still exists as a MS 365 tenant.
laurensr··on Tell HN: Microsoft 365 domain name hell
Thank you. I will explore the documentation you provided.
laurensr··on Tell HN: Microsoft 365 domain name hell
They should indeed allow the switch of <ourproduct.com> to our .onmicrosoft.com tenant (instead of the previous domain name holder) but unfortunately this is a manual process as demonstrated by my experience.

We were indeed asked to add a TXT record (ms=....) to our domain which we did but this was not enough to be able to link the domain name through the admin panel ourselves because it was still linked to another tenant which held the domain name in the past.

laurensr··on Tell HN: Microsoft 365 domain name hell
That seems related to Azure AD and Power BI. Are you certain it applies to Microsoft 365 as well?
laurensr··on I'm making a WiFi GameBoy Cartridge (too)
Cool! May I suggest adding RSS to your website? Or another mechanism to subscribe to new posts?
laurensr··on A key inflation measure rose to a 39-year high last month
I'm not an economic expert, but the rate at which new money was created in 2020 & 2021 is frightening: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M1SL
laurensr··on Conspiracy theory says all birds are drones
The believers argue the COVID lockdowns allow the government to the change the batteries.
laurensr··on Why are German numbers backwards?
It's the same in Dutch... But French is even weirder : 96 becomes four-twenty sixteen...
laurensr··on Ask HN: Why there are no Android mini phones?
Very nice. They even have phones with a keyboard. I assumed only BlackBerry had this.
