in part, he may be barred (or may at least need consent) from any litigation where his new clients interests are adverse to his former clients interests.
For instance... " a lawyer shall not represent a client with respect to a matter if: (1) That matter involves a specific party or parties and a position to be taken by that client in that matter is adverse to a position taken or to be taken by another client in the same matter even though that client is unrepresented or represented by a different lawyer; (2) Such representation will be or is likely to be adversely affected by representation of another client;"

The policy of forcing a decision for laid off people between 1) sitting around doing nothing (i.e. "looking for a job") and being eligible for free money vs. 2) trying to start something which could have an an impact in not only getting that person back into a paying position but also on the economy as a whole (and thereby being ineligible for money) needed to end
That's the biggest change I've noticed as well, and I would expand your observation to cover comments too. it seems like jokes get upvoted significantly more often now than they did a year or two ago.
Sadly, it looks like it just calculates the beer value of your books (unless I am missing something here).
Makes you wonder what other sort of "non-public" information is actually out there just waiting to be found.
The law recognizes a wide variety of restrictions. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech_in_the_United... for a few.
For a view that "There is no such thing as free speech" see Stanley Fish, etc.. http://www.australianhumanitiesreview.org/archive/Issue-Febr...
I feel your pain, but isn't it obvious though? Increase the pain of leaving and you increase the likelihood of staying. Annoying, but effective.
i totally get the gripe, and i do sympathize, but it's a free service and at the end of the day it's not something that shows up on the radar screen for a large majority of their users..
IP doesn't automatically confer..
the kickstarter route, where fillion owns the property seems fine, but once you're talking about offering shares of a company to fans that would own the franchise, that's hard to see how that wouldn't be a violation of securities laws as an unregistered public offering.
(despite the quotes from krugman and friedman about biz cycle theory)
one thing to keep in mind is that 200k probably means more like 100k after taxes. that only leaves you about 20k overhead after you pay your student loans. just something to think about.
the only thing you are overestimating is how much of that bonus is take home. NYC taxes and even a modest % into your 401k means you are looking at somewhere around 40% of your bonus number actually winding up in your bank account.
what i'm really looking to get out of this whole thing is an interesting project to throw myself into.
the only reason i can think of for not seeing them is that maybe they weren't counted as full "failures" since some of their assets were bought, but it would make sense to include them in something like this..
