I always bring a six pack home when I’m in France.
re-reads for me:
Diamond Age (4) (I'm an educator), Cryptonomicon (2), Baroc cycle (2)
However i plan to re-read Anathem in paralell with my second re-read of Russels A History of Western Philosophy. Really looking forward to this one.
When i need more precision, i use an online converter or a ruler with an imperial and a metric scale. FWIW i only think in metric.
I really liked the first half of Fall; Or Dodge in Hell. But it has been the only Stephenson book where i needed discipline not to get enough sleep, but to get through the second half.
I mean you never know. But i think there's another explaination: He is one of the most popular woodworkers ATM and he has published a lot of material, so it's only natural if his name comes up more than others.
So it's interesting how this 100kw was produced.
The article only says: "The business was able to generate roughly 100 kilowatts of steady electricity during demonstrations earlier this year."
So is this over a few days or just a few hours while peak flow? While currents change, their change is highly forseeable - unlike wind.
Good propertyy. It would be even better if the material acted as a good insulator. And be re- or upcyclabe when we need to tear down the building. And while we're at it: it would be nice if the product would just grow...
That sounds like a tree to me...
I'm writingh this on a 2010 mbp on it's third battery, second ram upgrade and new-ish SSD and i'don't know if my next machine will hold up ~10 years when nothing is easily replacable.
I switched from google reader to feedly to newsboat. One cloud service less.
While i like the idea to be able to read my feeds from multiple computers, i don't actually need it. In fact, readig them on only one device gives me back (a little bit of) focus.
I read "His Master's Voice" as a teenager and was deeply touched by it. Every other Lem Book was downhill from then.
Imo if you're a outdoor user on Android you should try out Locus Maps. I've used them with the downloads from openandromaps. Imo no other program comes close in terms of capabilities.
Too bad the hardware was so mediocre.
Climate Change will also impact other snow sports:
The future of backcountry skiing (at least in the alps) will be to drive up a mountain pass, get on a E-Mountainbike, drive up ~300m of elevation and then begin skinning.
Nordic skiing (where you need road access and a lot of flat-ish surface) will only be possible in a few quite elevated valleys without much sun.
yeah, but compared with other services like WWW mail is IMO harder. You deal with two main Protocols and a lot of software. While mail takes 11 components in your tutorial, you'd get a website in 4. And some parts are hard to debug. I have very little means to debug why my mail wasn't delivered to my bosses gmail.
I found it to be very time consuming and complicated, mainly because of the trouble of outgoing mail.
I ordered debian potato (debian 2.2 / August 2000) as CD Sets via a german book store. Came with an OKish book. I distinctly remember that the SuSe book was better and i was really glad when i got a old SuSe manual from someone who upgraded his machine and got a new manual along with the 10 CDs.
Great times.
I've only worked with three students with spina bifida in my career in special-ed but everyone of them was a positive-optimistic child with a lot of emotional intelligence. Everyone wants to befriend them because they are funny and kind.
Practice isn't the only ingredient to the magic sauce. The learning input also has to be in a form which the learner can understand. If i tell you to practice a backflip until you can do it you'll likely injure yourself - or walk away, frustrated - before you can do it. If i would analyze the and split up the movement and teach it to you in little steps you will most likely learn it faster. If we could use a trampolin you'd learn even faster.
How to break things down into little steps is one of the most important parts of teaching. The other one - you're correct there - is how to foster motivation.
> It's sad that so few kids read at their grade level but it's not because of sub-optimal teaching methods that much is for sure.
My observation as a teacher is, that some are frustrated. Maybe they hit a wall (a steep learning curve) with their learning and weren't motivated enough to push through. More motivation could help, but so could a learning design that doesn't have walls/steep learning curves.
living in berlin feels like living in a failed bundesland. the public transport is broken all the time, the bürgerämter are crowded, you can't appointments, the administration is basically clueless, ...
i guess if you don't rely on public services it's not that bad, but still, berlin is a very bad example for a functioning german place.
Build pumped storage plants in 1km succession along all the high Fall lines of the Mittelgebirge. Ideally right next to the Wind Turbines that are already there. Sure, it's only 50-300m of height, but in sum it will be enough.
Voith and Siemens will be more than happy to produce those Turbines.
if wordpress stops using RSS it will be really dead.
> Even before it's demise, a lot of content publishers
> were only publishing headlines and abstracts via RSS,
> with the intent to drive clicks to hosted articles.
yes, but that can be helpful as well:
spiegel online (biggest german news site) has feeds for every subtopic; for an example for every sport an own feed.i subscribe to ~20 of this subtopics and i'm sure i will never miss an article about one of that topics.
Montessori via your source on mathematics: "Mathematics: Formation of the concepts of quantity and operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) from the uses of concrete learning materials. (birth to 6)" Quite general.
Piaget has a few sub-skills concerning Quantities:
* conservation (xxx has the same amount of x'es as x x x)
* classification (x is a letter and lowercase)
* seriation (x X y Y could be orderes XY; xy, but also Xx, Yy)
* transitivity and others
This insights are very useful if you want to make - for an example - a pre-numeric mathematical game concerning quantities.Montessori does not provide such deep insights into pre-numeric mathematics.
