ino··on Pixels and voxels, the long answer
That, and game boy, one of the best selling consoles ever, had perfectly defined square pixels.
ino··on YouTube Go: YouTube reimagined for the next generation of YouTube viewers
You can do that with safari on iOS if tou don't have the YouTube app installed. It works with any mp4 or mp3 stream too. And you can use other apps, browse other apps or lock the phone and have the controls on the lock screen.

Let it play, minimize the video, switch tab or app or whatever, pull up the bottom controls and click play.

ino··on Original bulletin board thread in which ‘:-)’ was proposed
It's a skirt
ino··on Search Results are officially AMP’d
I too feel google results gave been getting worse in the past 6 years. It's hard to describe, but it feels like the internet is somehow getting smaller.

But duck duck go results are still noticeably worse, sadly.

ino··on Neglected Food Bubbles: The Espresso Coffee Foam
Exactly. For best results do it with the very first coffee that rises from the moka.
ino··on Microsoft Pix
It reminded me of the Google Motion Stills app.

I had it for a few weeks but uninstalled it as I didn't use it much.

ino··on Australian traffic button pushes beautiful design
There's a button below the casing, try it next time.

Some rare lights stay red forever if you don't activate the thing. As for the others I also think they are placebo.

ino··on “Dear Mark. I am writing this to inform you that I shall not comply”
I've once had the displeasure of clicking on a misleading facebook group title and seeing one of the worst pictures I've ever seen, an atrocity that I couldn't get out of my head for days. I reported it. Some idiots just want to shock others, I don't get it.

I know that there are companies in Europe that only do the verification of the reported content, and the employees cannot say that they work for facebook, but in a way they do.

ino··on iPhone 7
I don't use in-ear because they've always fallen very easily from my ears, and I always feel like its the wires that are pulling them off.

I imagine these new ones would stay better because the lack of weight from the wires. I'm not excited about them though, I don't use headphones outside, and at home I don't need new ones.

ino··on iPhone 7
collapsing is really slow, it takes 3-5 seconds on safari + mba.
ino··on iPhone 7
It'd be significantly heavier. And significantly thicker if you use a case too.
ino··on In defence of Douglas Crockford
Marketing strategy: raising awareness to their conference by means of defamation of a fairly known person in the JS programming circle.
ino··on Rock in the USSR: New photos of the Leningrad underground during perestroika
reminds me of the russian copies of foreign vinyl records on x-ray pictures
ino··on “How do I choose not to share my account information with Facebook?”
from https://www.whatsapp.com/legal/

- Your messages are yours, and we can’t read them. We’ve built privacy, end-to-end encryption, and other security features into WhatsApp. We don’t store your messages once they’ve been delivered. When they are end-to-end encrypted, we and third parties can’t read them.

So they can share location, phone number, contact book, maybe chat group names if they're not encrypted, and maybe the people participating in those groups, the online/offline status, who and when you call, what else am I missing?

ino··on Show HN: Anime.js – Polyvalent JavaScript Animation Engine
It might be a language issue. In Portuguese "polivalente" is a very common word meaning something has many functions. Nobody thinks of chemistry upon hearing it.
ino··on UK votes to leave EU
I like having those regulations and the safety they provide, even if in many cases they might be too cautious. I don't trust companies, specially multinationals, to care for the consumers, their workers and the environment.
ino··on Where have all the iOS games gone?
There are games like those you're looking for but they use In-app purchases (IAP):

Games with ads and that are incomplete, where you purchase the "complete game with no ads" with a single purchase.

So it's like a demo that you upgrade to full version.

The problem is that because there's no "demo" functionality in the app store, they get labeled as games with IAP which turns many people, me including, away.

Before IAP, there were Free and Full versions of the same game (with and without ads and other perks), like Angry Birds and others.

If they made a "demo" category where the game has ads and fewer levels, or limited play time that you could upgrade to full game without ads, I'd be much happier as a dev and as a consumer.

ino··on Space Mono
I find "Roboto Mono Sans" very pleasing and easy to read on dark background. Looks great in Terminal also.

https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Roboto+Mono?query=roboto+m... click on the paint button top right to switch to dark bg

ino··on Forced Windows 10 Upgrade Shuts Down PC Used by Anti-Poaching Rangers in Africa
Win 10 is not a security update.

Microsoft is committed to security updates on Win 8.1 until 2023.

ino··on Voxel art
I think I understand what you meant, and it's called "low poly"

examples: https://www.reddit.com/r/low_poly/ http://lopoco.tumblr.com

Just like pixel art is inspired by the aesthetics of low resolution graphics and/or limited color palettes, low poly is inspired by those of early 3d art and games, like N64, Playstation, etc.

ino··on Apple's forgotten virtual-reality project QuickTime VR
On PC I've always associated it with not being able to full screen a video and bad play/pause/rewind/FF controls.
ino··on Apple's forgotten virtual-reality project QuickTime VR
Impressively stitched together, specially for the time. Even in 2008 it was a big effort to do it well in hugin. Photoshop also later improved their stitching tech and Microsoft research made ICE which was also nice.

In the demo, the ball of his mouse gets sticky. No amount of nostalgia can make ball mice look good.

ino··on Coding without Google
I learned programming alone with qBasic when I was 14 without internet.

By luck my father had left an icon to qBasic on his win 3.1 computer and it had a similar interface to edit which I knew very well, and I opened a file and realised the code made it go.

qBasic had a good and complete help with all the functions and examples. I loved it, and It helped me learn english and basic.

I remember playing football with friends and an idea came up to solve a problem I had at the time and I stopped playing to write the code in my school notebook. When I came home, it worked.

The internet has many dogmas and principles that are being repeated and learned by novices without understanding why by going through it themselves. Sometimes a singleton is the right thing to use, for example.

ino··on Twitter lets developers put ads in tweets
Just yesterday I've uninstalled the twitter app because of ads.

I think it's totally wrong what they're doing. Brands already use twitter to promote their products. It's already full of ads and promotion.

Why not monetize on the brands by providing them special tools and insights? Or are they already doing that and it's not enough money?

To me it seems that those between-tweets ads make twitter shittier for everyone, brands included.

ino··on Is Hyperloop the future of travel?
You just described a Maglev
ino··on I Run a GMO Company and Support GMO Labeling
The problem is that historically the US and now global companies have a bad record of consumer protection and low regulation, specially when it comes to new technology, and you can't trust companies to act on the best interests of consumers.

(lead poisoning, fracking, tobacco industry, pharma testing, environmental disasters by oil companies, agent orange and many, many more)

ino··on Ubuntu 16.04 proves even an LTS release can live at Linux’s bleeding edge
How does the trackpad feel? How's the battery life?
ino··on SpaceX lands rocket at sea second time after satellite launch
How are non-US space agencies and companies (like ESA, Russia, Japan, China, etc) reacting to the SpaceX and Blue Origin achievements?

Are they also testing similar things but we aren't hearing? Or they aren't threatened by the advances?

ino··on Italian court rules food theft 'not a crime' if hungry
When you're starving and alone, you're not the same person. You can feel the civility, bon-ton and good education vanishing, you don't even think about it. People will give you food if they see you in this state. If you can't get it any other way, you will steal.
