Apple should release a Mac mini that can "dock" to a 5k monitor with usb-c display and power. This will avoid power cable clutter and enable a much nicer setup.
I tried it and they are super scammy. After wasting time, I decided to look for a project manager on upwork. This person was way more knowledgeable and helpful compared to all the sales scamsters at buildzoom to analyze the bids I got and ask clarifying questions.
That said, other options to find a quality contractor like yelp or home advisor are also very hit or miss. Slightly better option is to ask your friends or walk around your neighborhood to get list of active contractors.
The tearoom is ask is “Can I hire an average software engineer with 2-5y experience who’ll will have no problems keeping this running 99.999% of the time while doing development and deployments?
Sure in theory “you Americans” can also storm the Capitol and burn the constitution and the institution - it is all democracy after all. In practice though you just have to bend the knee and work your ass for your paycheck like the rest of us. Your pipe dream is based on racism and while you are hallucinating, the rest of the hard working immigrants are just making their lives better. Just get back to work.
The tech industry in CA is basically Chinese and Indians. jFYI "You Americans" have no special rights and cannot do anything to disenfranchise. Free speech rights granted by the US constitution doesn't care if you are a citizen or not.
> Therefore discriminating by caste is legal under federal law
I’m curious if those people filed a lawsuit of any kind? I would imagine that discriminating against them would fall under in-group vs out-group type of discrimination and companies discourage this.
Workers get unhappy about work and other co-workers, this doesn’t mean laws were broken.
American businesses literally created this problem in the last two decades by moving significant production to China that concentrated the supply chain in that country. The CCP now wants to use the economic wealth to bite the hand that fed it. The solution is not a military solution.
The economic engine that is driving this should be cut off and there are various strategies that can be employed here. US and EU imports several non essential labor intensive products that do not contribute to better lives. For example toys. Banning these imports (bad for the environment) will cause labor unrest in China and will tie down the CCP to deal with it. Currently they are focusing on building chip fabrication, the next step will be force Apple to use these chips.
Around 2016 when Apple released Messages with extensions, the gifs search feature called #images used Bing to crawl gifs, the biggest reason being it was safe and filtered by AI. That turned out so horrible that Apple ditched Bing in #images. This probably cemented Google’s spot.
By 2018, the Government of India had accused Nijjar of multiple targeted killings in India. Nijjar stated that the Indian authorities were falsely implicating him in criminal cases.
The article fails to include how the Snowden saga and Russian election meddling was the precursor to the NATO expansion. These are not isolated events.
I'd like to look at some data on people movements before making up hypotheses and theories. What we have seen is that more people are moving out of India than into the country (other than some poor migrants from places like Bangladesh). What do you think that this data is telling - not about the people (it is easy to blame them for not being patriotic etc). but about the judgements these people have made of the situation? In my opinion, people prefer comfort and lesser competition over grinding it out and this is a universal preference. Denying this basic fact will not help you come up with solutions to the problem - just wishing "if all the people would choose to stay and grind it out, then the country will have more progress" is not a viable solution.
Not a fan of executives or management but there literally are two groups - RTO and non-RTO. Employees largely prefer one option and management the other. So effectively you have two group-thinks going on. Are you saying management should change their stance or are there other non-group think options here?
Do you think the margins were low because they just used higher quality ingredients and did not doing any food management? If so the next owner can optimize these inefficiencies and extract value from the brand value.
This is a huge regulatory failure and not just a technology problem. These cars can be networked and a human can monitor and override when exceptional situations arise. Amazing to see how billions of dollar of VC money, tech bros, government bureaucrats all get this so spectacularly wrong after working on the problem for decades.
As a software engineer in a fast paced high expectations team, I’ve come to realize writing tests is a good way to show this charitable attitude especially when you are new and have little knowledge and little leverage.
The other issue is that California is taking away jobs of farm workers south of the border and uprooting their lives and causing the influx of migrants to exacerbate. Farm owners here are wealthy and have the politicians in their pockets and it will be very difficult to change the status quo.
Good/bad is too simple to explain these things. Corporations try to make money or build leverage. Of course some of them don’t execute or compete very well. In the early days it was doing good and building the leverage, now it is time for them to use that leverage to continue to milk the cash cow for as long as possible.
All the responses I'm reading so far are rather shallow and fails to consider the overall landscape and how it will evolve and who the big losers will be. The way I see it, that the current players include Google (which has a lot to lose), OpenAI (unclear business model) and upcoming startups (can disrupt Google/OpenAI). Meta releasing these models will impact Google and OpenAI the most by helping upcoming startups to inflict fatal blows or slowly chip away at their business models by means of a race to the bottom. The main issue preventing Google or OpenAI to succeed is that the regulatory landscape will pose a huge risk and Meta knows that. Startups are not hampered by this as they are small fry and before anyone can notice, they can/will land a blow on Google/OpenAI.
To all those people complaining on this not being open source - Zuck is playing chess, while you play a much simpler game. Advancing SOTA and a bit of Open source is a side benefit.
We could also consider failure to prevent bad actors from doing immoral things as immoral itself. The problem with this line of thinking is there is no tight definition of immorality.
