hundchenkatze··on Handwriting is better than typing when learning a new language, study finds
I'm in the U.S. and I learned cursive about that age. I'm 30 now, and the only thing I write in cursive these days is my signature (which for the record looks awful). I'm fairly certain cursive is no longer taught in public schools in my area.
hundchenkatze··on Nintendo announces Switch OLED Model
Yes, I was able to use one without issue.
hundchenkatze··on “Please don't waste maintainers' time on your KPI grabbing patches”
I understand the overhead, but it seems like bundling lots of unrelated cleanup fixes into one large commit would make it easier to sneak in something nefarious.
hundchenkatze··on Court rules encrypted email provider Tutanota must monitor messages
Yes? I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Can you elaborate?
hundchenkatze··on Klarna users are being signed in to random accounts
Klarna has posted a statement here https://www.klarna.com/uk/blog/written-statement-on-app-bug/
hundchenkatze··on How I, as someone who is visually impaired, use my iPhone (2020)
> When you use Camera, VoiceOver describes objects in the viewfinder. To take a photo or start, pause, or resume a video recording, double-tap the screen with two fingers.

Volta as well https://volta.sh/ – A Node version manager written in Rust.

I wonder if there's a Ruby bundler written in another lang?

hundchenkatze··on Project Starline: Feel like you're there, together
I thought Google was mostly buying up dark fiber (I think that's the case in my city at least). Where did they run their own, and what was the impact of the shallow runs?

edit: nvm, found it :) https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/16/18381466/google-fiber-lou...

hundchenkatze··on Coinbase outages
It says partial outage for web and api for me.
hundchenkatze··on Apple Music Announces Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio
I meant to say that if you device supports Dolby Atmos then it should work. This spatial audio from Apple is just Dolby Atmos, not some special apple thing (besides being streamed via the Apple Music service).
hundchenkatze··on Apple Music Announces Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio
There's Dolby Atmos for Mobile Devices[0]. It does require extra processing, so maybe extra hardware, but it's not unique to Apple.

hundchenkatze··on Apple Music Announces Spatial Audio and Lossless Audio
From the article:

> Apple Music will also make its catalog of more than 75 million songs available in Lossless Audio. Apple uses ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) to preserve every single bit of the original audio file.

I think http is longer than ftp :P
hundchenkatze··on I mailed an AirTag and tracked its progress
I was only clarifying the difference between mailing someone a tag versus attaching a tag to someone or something they own.

Sure if you already know the person's car then just follow them.

hundchenkatze··on I mailed an AirTag and tracked its progress
The difference is that a tag mailed to someone didn't follow them and their iPhone, it just shows up one day. In that case the person sending the tag obviously already knows where you live anyway. In your example, attaching it to someone's car (presumably while at work, shopping, etc) it will follow them home and their iPhone would see that tag the entire trip until they get home at which point it would notify the tracked person.
hundchenkatze··on An update to our YouTube TV members on Roku
I believe they mean that if Google _wants_ YoutubeTV to run on Roku's devices then Google must write an app that supports that hardware, not that Google must support all devices in existence.
hundchenkatze··on Apple reveals more about AirTag stalking protections
Buying an AirTag is more accessible to vastly more people than rooting phones and side-loading apps.
hundchenkatze··on Google promised its contact tracing app was completely private, but it wasn’t
Ah, thanks for the clarification, that makes sense. I was jumping to the assumption that the manufacturer was malicious from day one.
hundchenkatze··on Google promised its contact tracing app was completely private, but it wasn’t
The device manufacturer has access to the device (at the hardware level even) the moment they start building it. They don't need to push a patch to gain access, they could access your logs at any point throughout the lifespan of the device.
hundchenkatze··on Apple Introduces AirTag
There's more to these than just batteries. If they had sealed-in a rechargeable battery then you'd have to throw out the whole thing and buy a new one once it stopped holding a charge. This way you can just buy your own rechargeable CR2032 batteries.
hundchenkatze··on How to Read Books When You Have ADHD
Not a dumb question at all. I feel the same way, any GP I've mentioned it to never seemed interested in really helping.

I think your ADHD got the best of you today, because the comment you're replying to suggests working with a psychiatrist. :)

hundchenkatze··on A top-grossing scam on the App Store
Yes, it's been successful at creating the illusion that as long as I'm in Apple's garden all is well. Meanwhile extremely profitable scams (for both Apple and the scammer) remain in the store.

hundchenkatze··on Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference is back in its all-online format
They've been soldering them on since the 2016 MBP[0]. I thought you were referring to the reports of unusually high writes on M1 macs, thus shortening the life of SSDs[1].

hundchenkatze··on Posture: Is the Pandemic Breaking Our Backs?
Did you reply to the wrong person? The person you're replying to said nothing about buying expensive chairs.
hundchenkatze··on Icons – Google Fonts
I don't think you're allowed to redistribute them. Apple considers them system-provided assets, so you can only use them on systems that provide them.

> Availability of individual symbols and features varies based on the version of the system you’re targeting. When you export a symbol introduced in SF Symbols 2 as an SVG template and bundle it with your app, you can use it in apps that target iOS 13, Mac Catalyst 13, tvOS 13, or watchOS 6

> All SF Symbols shall be considered to be system-provided images as defined in the Xcode and Apple SDKs license agreements and are subject to the terms and conditions set forth therein.
