general1465··on Iranian banks' SSL certificates are being revoked due to OFAC sanctions
I mean if you have ever tried to get Code signing certificate, it is absurd theater to get it working and your choice is like 3 different US certificate authorities.
general1465··on Patients Who Fight Health Insurance Denials Often Win
Health insurance should be automatically approved and then prosecuted if there is a suspicion of fraud. Kind of like DMCA works.
general1465··on Sergey Brin pours more than $100M into fighting California's billionaire tax
> innovation and capital will leave the state

This was always such a hollow argument... where are they going to leave? Some tax heaven like Panama or Cayman Islands? South America? Are they trying to get kidnapped for ransom? These people are not going to leave, because outside of 1st world countries they will get eaten alive.

general1465··on Will there be a 7G?
The problem is control of the network. If you don't control your network, then you don't know if network provider will go from "unlimited data" to "I am changing the deal now it is 1USD/GB" and you can either take it or be without connection which would likely collapse your operations. So the only logical step is to use network which you have full control over, like WiFi.

The much higher speed also does not hold together when you will look at it. When you have a device which is generating or processing a lot of data (GB/s ~ TB/s) such device needs substantial computational power to pull it off, so it is likely a stationary device connected to 230V. So why won't you drag a fiber there?

general1465··on Will there be a 7G?
> It was also meant for offices as a managed WiFi replacement. Stuff like that. In this vision every laptop would have 5G built in and could work anywhere. It just didn't take off because of the chicken egg problem. Not many phones with mmWave. Not many providers with it.

It did not took off because the whole sales pitch was utter nonsense. Why would anyone put 3rd party 5G BTS inside their buildings and then pay for data, when they can use WiFi for free + they control the network so they can decide how data are shared between stations and which stations are allowed to be logged in.

I can see that 6G is pitching... exactly same thing. Which predictably is going to fail... on exactly same issue.

general1465··on Will there be a 7G?
Unlikely. 5G hit the wall on UWB (Ultra Wide Band; 10-100GHz) because geniuses who were doing marketing for its transfer speeds did not realized that such high frequencies are disrupted with minimal amount conductive material in the air - so surprise surprise, 5G UWB does not work when you are behind a wall, it does not work when your big head full of water is in the way of BTS and most perplexing for common folk, it does not work behind a glass because regular glass is full of iron - so forget on 5G UWB on a train, tram or bus, unless somebody put mini BTS inside the vehicle.

So 5G for most folks is just marginally better LTE and that's about it. Any higher frequencies like 6G (30GHZ~3THz) or 7G (???) won't achieve much of anything outside of laboratory, because they will hit exactly same walls like 5G UWB.

general1465··on Ukrainian drones strike Russian gas facility over 3k km away in Siberia
It is lose-lose situation for everybody.

Nobody in EU, USA or China is interested in Russia winning the war because that would embolden them to further expand east to Moldova and Baltics.

And nobody in EU, USA or China is interested in Russia losing the war because that could turn into fracturing of Russia and civil war inside Russia with nukes.

Putin got Russia into impossible situation which will end badly either way.

general1465··on Ukrainian drones strike Russian gas facility over 3k km away in Siberia
It is perplexing isn't it? Second best army in the world is struggling to make a headway for last 4 years on a much smaller neighbor. The difference between Russian propaganda and reality on the battlefield is so vast that every threat from Russia towards other neighbors rings more hollow every month.
general1465··on Trump homeland security chief says ICE agents could be sent to polling places
1. Considering how much of a swing is expected it is a statistical error

2. You have to register to vote, so you have already proven that you are a citizen, thus the whole theater with ICE is double irrelevant.

general1465··on Trump homeland security chief says ICE agents could be sent to polling places
Yes irrelevant, because they never operate in units of 1, they are always in big groups.
general1465··on The far right's win in Germany is sending a chill through Europe's establishment
You have completely misread what he is saying. See Denmark - mainstream parties started to be harder on immigration and all the right wing parties in Denmark essentially evaporated.
general1465··on The far right's win in Germany is sending a chill through Europe's establishment
> All these has worked as a boost for the AfD because people realised that apart from AfD the only other main right conservative party in Germany is CDU/CSU

I think that was a mistake and they should have form coalition with AfD and let them try to fulfil their promises to their voters. After delivering either little or dead on arrival laws they would be effectively self-defused.

general1465··on The far right's win in Germany is sending a chill through Europe's establishment
As a European, I am not worried at all. AfD promises are a complete nonsense which will make everything in Germany worse (Leaving Euro, EU) or require cooperation of other countries (Deportations) so they will either not even try or try and fail. Then after 4-5 years of barking achieve nothing and will get voted out.
general1465··on Trump homeland security chief says ICE agents could be sent to polling places
More less irrelevant. How many polling places is there, how many ICE agents do they have?
general1465··on The moral panic over data centres is foolish
I think it should not be a big deal to build datacenters in desert states like Arizona, Nevada or all the way in Alaska. Building of datacenters was actually one of the reasons why USA wanted/wants to have Greenland.
general1465··on Gmail to end support for "Send as" for third-party addresses, such as @yahoo.com
Yes it is completely ambiguous stupid nonsense especially for emails which when sent anywhere outside of Tuta are not E2EE. How many emails are going to go outside of Tuta service 99%+?
general1465··on Gmail to end support for "Send as" for third-party addresses, such as @yahoo.com
Tuta is effectively useless without any support for IMAP/SMTP. Bought subscription for a year just to get hit with this artificial limitation.
general1465··on US gov sides with OpenAI on issue of training LLMs on copyrighted material
As long as you transform copyrighted data into something else then it appears so.

Which will be also interesting for prompts used by the users of these AI companies, because even if those prompts contain copyrighted data, they can be used for training because training is transforming these prompts into something else.

general1465··on How to debloat your Xiaomi 15 Ultra without root access
> THat's why I avoid all these top bang for the buck Chinese phones with amazing HW

I mean Apple and MacOS is not much different. Can you i.e. delete Apple Stocks application without disabling SIP?

general1465··on Proton Outage
Tuta without SMTP/POP3/IMAP is just a joke. At least Protonmail offers bridge to work with.
general1465··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
I did not said anything what would disagree with your claims.

If you are an exporter and exporting goods to EU you have to comply with EU rules if you like it or not and whether you are a member or not.

general1465··on Iceland rejects reopening talks on EU entry
> And yet they've done fine for 1000+ years.

They got their independence after WW2, they have been either annexed or colonized by other powers since 1262.

general1465··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
Your comment is a great example of getting triggered and then agreeing with everything what I have written.
general1465··on Iceland rejects reopening talks on EU entry
> It is logical if indeed sovereignty was a main issue in the debate

It is kind of hard to take countries without standing armies talking about sovereignty seriously.

general1465··on Iceland votes on whether to restart talks on joining EU
The presence of EU across the sea is making their exporters to comply, same goes for UK. Does not matter if you are a member or not. You can either comply with the roles or not export to EU.
general1465··on I used AWS cognito for a startup. I wouldn't do it again
If you can't tell, does it matter?
general1465··on Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac: The future of supercars is combustion engines
How many flying Tesla roadsters are on the road?
general1465··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
It would be small claims court and they are being sued so much, that they don't even bother to show up in trials (courts are expensive goes both ways), so it is default win usually.
general1465··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
> I often wonder how much work would it be to bring IBAN accounts to the US

It is 2026, in USA people are not having access to IBAN in their bank accounts, usually they have to be personally present for international transfers out of their accounts and everyone have a checkbook.

general1465··on Twitter Is Back at Twitter.now
In the case of .now it is under Amazon Registry Services, so it is pretty straightforward to cause legal troubles.

But if creator would be a little bit more forward thinking, then they would have created domain somewhere where US can't really reach and then good luck. Just look on anna's archive - .se, .org, .li
