I find myself reaching for this pretty often.

Love little tools like this it fits the spirit of HN perfectly.

farhanpatel··on Etsy sellers are furious over new mandatory ad fees
It seems like they're trying to replicate the Wish advertising strategy.

Show you ads with relevant products on Instagram/Facebook that all link to different products on Etsy. They probably need more sellers in order to fill the ads with relevant enough products.

farhanpatel··on List of open source iOS apps
Check out the firefox-iOS project https://github.com/mozilla/firefox-ios

We have lots of tests. Many of them in different styles. Both UI tests and unit tests.

I'm in the process of writing tests using the new XCUI testing framework. You can see a PR I have open here. https://github.com/mozilla/firefox-ios/pull/1998

farhanpatel··on Electric Generation in Spain – Latest 24 Hours
Very well done. Here is a similar thing for Ontario http://media.cns-snc.ca/ontarioelectricity/ontarioelectricit...
farhanpatel··on What Can You Put in a Refrigerator?

farhanpatel··on Show HN: Music Player for Dropbox, Mega, and Google Drive
Any plans of adding S3 support. Would be great for uploading a larger library. This paired with something like ArqBackup could auto upload your library to S3.
farhanpatel··on PushServer – Node.js server for sending iOS push notifications
This seems like a more full fledged APNS server with a web frontend.

If you are looking for more transactional approach to integrate into an existing node app. I've been using node-apn in production for almost a year now. works well.

farhanpatel··on It's Adventure Time
I cant believe no one mentioned Rick and Morty. Co-created by the creator of Adventure Time and Community.

The main character is a hacker scientist who with his grandson fight aliens, explore parallel dimensions and save the world from destruction!

farhanpatel··on RethinkDB 1.12: simplified map/reduce, ARM port, new caching infrastructure
Has anyone used RethinkDB for a relative large database(100GB+)? I cant seem to find performance benchmarks anywhere.
farhanpatel··on Show HN: Xplode – Mobile App Promotion and Monetization
I'd like to try it. But guess I need an invite. If you can send one that would be awesome.

Our company is currently looking for a new iOS monetization strategy.

farhanpatel··on Hangouts for iOS
I know this is a nit-picky thing but why does this app require 6.1 or later? Thats a funny move. 6.0 I can understand.

What functionality could they have in 6.1 that made them have to require it?

farhanpatel··on Fixing Toxic Online Behavior in League of Legends
This works because you knew him and played regularly. In Leauge most of the time you are playing with strangers and it's harder to behave like that. Most people wont know you are joking.

A vile (friendly) player can still exist. In your own private group chats you can say what you please. And if you are playing in an arranged 5 team you are unlikely to report your own team.

farhanpatel··on Sails 0.8.9: A Rails-Inspired Real-Time Node MVC Framework

farhanpatel··on A Twitter spam case study
I have also noticed this with search terms I follow on twitter.

https://twitter.com/search/realtime?q=Record+time+from+home+...

My theory is that almost every account linked to one of these accounts is fake. If you take any of their tweets you'll see them repeating the same tweets across a large web.

farhanpatel··on Show HN: I wrote a utility for reading Xbox 360 HDDs
It's great.I'm not in the Xbox scene anymore but there is a huge lack in Xbox360 software that is not Windows only.

A lot of the use of tools like this comes from users who have "jailbroken" their console and can freely move games on and off the hdd. As most things are signed to the console or profile.

Out of curiosity what prompted you to make this? Was it just about learning QT or did you feel there was a need for multiplatform FATX explorer?

farhanpatel··on Amazon Book Reviews Deleted in Purge Aimed at Manipulation
Hopefully these reviews aren't categorized as "manipulative"

http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AKDL1-Dedicated-Link-Cable/produ...

There is some amazing satire in Amazon reviews. It would be a shame if it was all lost.

farhanpatel··on UserVoice + Crittercism: integrated support & crash reporting for app developers
this is great! I was in the process of using Crittercism's forum when they told me it was being deprecated in favour of ZenDesk. I looked at zendesk didn't like it compared to UserVoice and went with that instead. I'm happy they chose Uservoice instead!

I'm currently using both Crittercism and Uservoice so it will be great to bring them together!

farhanpatel··on Piracy Cripples iOS Game in Less than a Week
This is also another reason why developers choose to go the freemium route.

With apps that have their own backend its trivial to verify receipts with your server. It's hard(impossible?) to verify actual purchases with your server but In App purchases can easily be verified.

farhanpatel··on Paypal Bans Usenet Providers Over Piracy Concerns
Usenet is under attack.

A lot of TV/Movie companies are starting to send DMCA requests to usenet providers.

The other day SabMini a iOS client for sabnzbd had to remove support for sickbeard(a PVR for usenet)

I think we are seeing the systematic destruction of Usenet.

Usenet won't go away but just become harder. Releases won't be named correctly to avoid getting DMCA notices.

Looks like someone broke the first rule of Usenet...

farhanpatel··on What is HMAC Authentication why is it useful?
would a nonce not work? You could just timestamp your request. And only accept requests in a certain timeframe.

farhanpatel··on Extend Twitter Bootstrap with these Bootstrap Form Helpers
I use select2 with bootstrap http://ivaynberg.github.com/select2/

works impressively well for using inside forms.

farhanpatel··on IPhone 5: Customers in the Big Apple camp out 8 days early
These people aren't camping out to just get an iPhone. They are using the publicity to raise donations for cancer research.

Most of the people are camping out for publicity, not for the phone.

farhanpatel··on Student Is Sanctioned for Creating Class-Registration Web Site
"PeopleSoft's "SA" module that UCF is using for registration includes a waitlist feature that already does all of this"

It isn't always enabled. Many classes for some odd reason have the waitlist feature turned off.

farhanpatel··on Student Is Sanctioned for Creating Class-Registration Web Site
I built an iOS app for my school (Simon Fraser University) that allowed students to view/share their schedule with their friends. One of the most frequent questions I get is if the school has tried to shut me down and it is exactly for reasons like this that other students don't build more apps like this.

We have the same student system that UCF uses. It's horrible and slow. Tools like this make it a little bit more manageable.

I am surprised more schools dont have simple API's that allow students to build services on top of them.
