f1nch3r··on Can a Person Learn While Sleeping?
I have the issue where if I'm stuck on a problem and try to sleep on it, I wake up as tired as if I had stayed up working. My brain seems to never completely shutdown and rest. Have you ever experienced that? Any suggestions?
f1nch3r··on Raw String Literals Removed From Java 12 as Feature Set Frozen
I'm bummed that the raw string literals are delayed, but the new switch statement does look nice.
f1nch3r··on Tildes – A non-profit community site driven by its users' interests
The whole redesign has been painful. At first I liked it, but some of the things you've mentioned here as well as the lagginess of the site have really soured me on Reddit.
f1nch3r··on Twitter delays shutdown of legacy APIs as it launches a replacement
I'd agree in part. Outside of promoted content, they also try to force "things I might have missed" on me. I never want to see this. I browse in chronological order and will see it without their "help".
f1nch3r··on Twitter delays shutdown of legacy APIs as it launches a replacement
When they announced the changes a while back I did a personal test and switched to using the Twitter website and their app on the iPhone. Outside of not showing ads, I think I know why they want to do away with 3rd party clients. 3rd party clients have them beat by a mile when it comes to ease of use. I don't think they can, nor want to compete with that. They'd rather show me what they think I want to see, rather than what I actually want to see. I just can't help feeling like my days on Twitter are numbered, which is sad having been on there for ten years now. I'm just not their target anymore.
f1nch3r··on Raccoons Pass Aesop's Fable Test By Upending It
The Chrome trick may work for some sites but not others, most notably CNN.
f1nch3r··on Nielsen estimates ESPN lost 555,000 subscribers during the last month
Doesn't this also mean that cable companies lost 555,000 subscribers last month? The only way for me to get ESPN is with a basic cable subscription.
f1nch3r··on Microsoft to acquire LinkedIn for $26B
At least Microsoft will be able to tout the inability to delete a LinkedIn profile as a feature and not a bug.
f1nch3r··on Introducing Kindle Oasis
Then they'll only be on the left side!
f1nch3r··on Steve Miller: The Whole Music Industry Is Fuckin' Gangsters and Crooks
Never thought I'd see a post involving Zao on HN. That's sad to hear that Solid State did them wrong, regardless of the jerkiness of (I'm assuming you're referring to) Jesse Smith.
f1nch3r··on Twitter CEO Dorsey Apologizes to Developers
That was quite the big city apology.
f1nch3r··on Ask HN: What tech blogs, podcasts do you follow outside of HN?
ITM, slave!
f1nch3r··on Show HN: Artpacks.org – Archive of the ANSI and ASCII art scene (1990 to present)
Pretty amazing seeing stuff I did back in 1995! http://artpacks.org/1995/fire1095.zip/SL-TST.ANS

I wasn't good, but those were surely some fun days.

f1nch3r··on Testing a way for you to make purchases on Twitter
Do not want.
f1nch3r··on Did Malaysian Airlines 370 disappear using SIA68/SQ68 (another 777)?
Doing this is sure cheaper and easier than building a bomber capable of deploying a nuclear weapon or another type of WMD. Definitely cheaper than building an ICBM.
f1nch3r··on Depression is an inflammatory disease; where does inflammation come from? [pdf]
There were some well-reported flaws in that multivitamin study. One I remember off the top of my head from the study done with cardiovascular patients was that the "high levels" of vitamin D3 given to the participants was 100 IU.

Edit with one quick link.

f1nch3r··on End the N.S.A. Dragnet, Now
Almost certainly because she is allergic to common sense.
f1nch3r··on NSA infiltrates links to Yahoo, Google data centers worldwide
I bet if ESPN and shows like American Idol, etc. were knocked offline until we got our government back on track things would get done pretty fast.
f1nch3r··on Judge sentences Bradley Manning to 35 years
If you want to wave the flag that is your prerogative. Today, I hate my country. You can't change my opinion.
f1nch3r··on Judge sentences Bradley Manning to 35 years
Growing up as a conservative, hyper-patriotic American it pains me to say that I hate my country. A young man exposes wrongdoing by the military and gets sentenced to 35 years in prison while the administration that started an illegal war with Iraq, costing untold American and Iraqi lives, are free.
f1nch3r··on NSA admits listening to U.S. phone calls without warrants
Bill Maher has a vested interest in seeing Obama not be made a fool.
f1nch3r··on Absolute knowledge is absolute power
I agree with the author's point. I'd like to add that the problem right now isn't that you'll be individually targeted. But a mechanism has been created that depends on benevolent rule. The loss of civil liberties tends to be looked at myopically.
f1nch3r··on President Obama’s Dragnet
Precrime. Minority Report becomes more real every day.
f1nch3r··on Amazon.com criticising new iPad on homepage
Having owned both, I am sticking with the iPad. The Fire is good for the price but I constantly got the feeling that I was working to use the device. But that's just one man's opinion. I know others who swear by the Fire.
f1nch3r··on Issues
Welcome to California.
f1nch3r··on Dan Benjamin: Regarding The Talk Show
You can criticize and remain classy. I think Dan did that in this statement.
