Additionally the use of jail to persuade child support payments can also perpetuate this downward spiral. Credit account closures/declines in credit lines for imprisoned cardholders can adversely affect credit scores and employment opportunities. I understand paying child support is necessary but garnishment and seizure of tax refunds should be enough.
Many people will need to begin to reconsider what is home/community. They will need to avail themselves to the flexibility of labor markets. Doing so alone is possible but if you have a family it is burdensome without some governmental support. People once had that mindset... constant moving... constant searching for new opportunities. It is tiresome but many more will need to adapt to that mindset.
This happens to all of us and it is hard to truly reflect on what makes a successful startup. If there was a recipe we would hear of many successes, frankly investments would stop elsewhere and just concentrate on startups, if that was the case.
Whenever I hear of crazy returns, I try to reflect on the fact that if it was common, why wouldn't those who make such crazy returns not just borrow more money and wash, rinse, repeat. I think there is a point were those making such returns realize the success was due to mere chance or some other combination of timing, investment, people that could not exist again. There is also a point where you have to wonder why those making such great returns do not keep trying to do the same. There must be a level where crazy profits/returns would allow some self sustaining regenerative business. I think that level does not exist. When investors do think such a level exists, they are usually being swindled.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dewey#On_education_and_te... """ According to Dewey, the emphasis is placed on producing these attributes in children for use in their contemporary life because it is “impossible to foretell definitely just what civilization will be twenty years from now” (Dewey, MPC, 2010, p. 25). However, although Dewey is steadfast in his beliefs that education serves an immediate purpose (Dewey, DRT, 2010; Dewey, MPC, 2010; Dewey, TTP, 2010), he is not ignorant of the impact imparting these qualities of intelligence, skill and character on young children in their present life will have on the future society. While addressing the state of educative and economic affairs during a 1935 radio broadcast, Dewey linked the ensuing economic depression to a “lack of sufficient production of intelligence, skill and character” (Dewey, TAP, 2010, p. 242) of the nation’s workforce. As Dewey notes, there is a lack of these goods in the present society and teachers have a responsibility to create them in their students, who, we can assume, will grow into the adults who will ultimately go on to participate in whatever industrial or economical civilization awaits them. According to Dewey, the profession of the classroom teacher is to produce the intelligence, skill and character within each student so that the democratic community is composed of citizens who can think, do and act intelligently and morally. We have many people that were taught to trust the mainstream news organizations. Twenty years ago no one would have thought of blogs, news summary sites, gossip sites. We have a large proportion of society that never used library index cards, book glossaries, or used more than one source to study anything. They take any news given as true because it derives from some source of authority.
A child's education should not be focused on making money in the future. It's to create individuals that can function in a democratic society.
Yes you can have links and rate journalists but that won't solve the problem. I can legally change my name to Tom Brokaw and then what would you do... The issue has a striking correspondence to the difficulty of using the OpenPGP Public Key Infrastructure... Sure you can sign keys of journalists and have them sign their articles but it does not mean what they wrote is true. What if their editor took their key/password and published in their name? Or if upon expiration of key they just make another key using some journalist's name? You really want readers checking key fingerprints?
Maybe you can present the various sources of information and try to show links to research notes and such but I never see that provided on any news sources. Oh and what about anonymous insider tips... I see that often in the NYTimes... Why would your source of Truth in the times "Trump" my source of truth...?
Jay Rosen http://pressthink.org/ has struggled with this as well. I think he is for journalists just doing their jobs. He had an interesting discussion on the Bill Moyers show you should watch.
Journalists can only do so much. People need to take responsibility as well. In the 1990s would you take someone seriously that said "Hillary Clinton adopts an extraterrestrial"? http://www.motherjones.com/media/2015/04/weekly-world-news-c... The articles might not be so outlandish now but give enough doubt to the mainstream coverage to confuse most people.

On a personal note, I remember Awodey from my Senior Thesis seminar. He was very amicable and affable. During my presentation, I remember having to demonstrate Cantor's diagonalisation argument. Luckily for me it was one of the things I spent a good amount of time studying. Had a great time there.
You can't determine much from a technical interview. It's best just to ask what they worked on before and explain the new job to them. If people are serious about the job and find it challenging they will stay.
Just think about it. Who would want to lie and get into a job where technical challenges are beyond them? Sure you get a nice salary for a while but then it becomes obvious you are not doing much, you are bored, or can't get up to speed.
The flipside is any firm that can't fire people fast probably has many more issues than just technical interviews/hiring people.
Hiring fast is good sign. Letting go of the appropriate people in a timely manner is also a good sign. Being stuck interviewing people over a span of 3-6 months for the perfect candidate shows indecisiveness or lack of leadership/teamwork. It also means they will spend 3-6 months to let go of that really horrible employee.
Having the team meet candidates means the boss needs signalling from his team to get some type of approval. This is usually a bad sign. I get the whole "cultural fit" concept but it begs the question, besides technical requirements what are you really trying to filter out...
I understand getting buy-in from the team but if your team doesn't respect your choices why are you in charge? Just leave everything to a group vote... There should be some mutual understanding that the current team will respect and work alongside the new employee. The new employee should also understand they need to get involved... If this is not happening you have a leadership problem...

He has a great story of how gamblers would get casinos to increase betting limits and allow them to successfully use a martingale system. To this day, casino owners still fall for this and lose substantially.
Clearwater Beach is also enjoyable.

You will need an attorney/accountant/actuary to make sure your S-corporation is valid and does not ever create some situation where you lose that status. Then you need a good accountant that knows the ins and outs of keeping track of your S-corporation accounting especially two corporate-level attributes—earnings and profits (E&P) and the accumulated adjustments account (AAA).
Then you will need an actuary. Most actuaries have transparent pricing like the following:
http://pensionspecialist.net/defined-benefit-plans/
The goal for a single owner S-corp will be to maximize your salary to defer as much as possible. The money put into your defined benefit plan is tax deductible. The contribution limits are high and are set with your actuary.
Your goal will be fund your benefit plan up to 2.5 Million. When your retire (early at 55 is possible I think), you can take the lump sum or an annuity. At this point you pay taxes on it.
Meanwhile, you can manage and invest your fund according to what you and the actuary think is best. The investments/contributions/plan will change due to various factors.
I believe when you hit 2.5 Million you are fully funded. You can freeze your plan at that point or continue funding it. Ask an actuary.
This is what doctors, attorneys, and high earning consultants do. Very few corporations provide this any more.
If you want to look at examples, put your zip code into this page: http://search.pbgc.gov/search/InsuredPlans/InsuredPlans?quer...
The added benefit is that your pension is insured by the government via the PBGC. For small firms the insurance rates are affordable.

Here is a sample of deductions per plan. It seems dated, these amounts should be more by now.

"The Precariat" has some great ideas on how the relationship between the state and individual are changing. He also covers the current dynamics in welfare assistance for citizens of a state and demonstrates how basic income would be easier to administer and lessen the burden if proof needed to gain assistance. I also like how he examine s the current status of citizen vs non citizen and proposes the notion of a "denizen."
If you are an a contract programmer I recommend reading "The Precariat." All the extra work you do for work should count for something but it is sometimes not given any recognition.

A defined benefit plan could have prevented this tragedy. It's funny though. Defined benefit plans are mocked at by large firms but increasingly being used by wealthy individuals/families and their small businesses. Nothing beats government subsidized PBGC insurance for the future retirement plans of America's job creators.

The tab effects are pretty cool. It's the best way to track your ideas, tasks, notes.
