Just so you know - that "throwaway" account has a longer history here than your named anonymous account and has a lot of higher "karmas" than you. Just need to point out.

We are talking about Toronto here. Your laws don't automatically apply.
dear··on We designed Canada's cities for cars, not people – and the people are dying
As a long time resident and a daily pedestrian in downtown Toronto, I have seen far far more cyclists ignoring traffic regulations than car drivers. They feel they own the road and rules don't apply to them - ignoring stop signs, bus/streetcar stops and the safety of pedestrians, expecting everyone including pedestrians to yield to them. But when they are inconvenienced by a car they yell.

When a streetcar stops, you must stop, like all the other vehicles to let the passengers to get on/off, and not try to bully your way through.

If there is a stop sign or it's a red light, you must stop, period. Don't pretend you are just a pedestrian trying to "jaywalk" across.

If cyclists want to use the road, they need to obey the same rules like everyone else. They are not above pedestrians and cars as they think entitled to.

Yeah but I don't think buying a race car and use it to race should be considered as "using it in a very specialized way".

dear··on Why we shouldn’t worry about leaving print behind
Exactly! With "digital copies" you don't even need to destroy them to render them useless. Just turn off the power!

dear··on I.M.F. Makes China’s Renminbi One of World’s Select Currencies
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_standard

Origin

"The gold specie standard arose from the widespread acceptance of gold as currency.[7] Various commodities have been used as money; typically, the one that loses the least value over time becomes the accepted form.[8] The use of gold as money began thousands of years ago in Asia Minor."

dear··on I.M.F. Makes China’s Renminbi One of World’s Select Currencies
I think Gold was the 'global reserve currency' before the 20th century.

dear··on Ask HN: How would you fire a cofounder, when you aren’t one?
I used to work in a tech company where the cofounders hired a lot of their family and friends/hobby buddies, beside the real workers. Of course it was the real workers who did the actual work. The family and friends just sat around chatting, surfing all day everyday but they were getting paid and getting stock options. Some of them were in 'technical' roles and a few of them were in 'managerial' positions. If they were to do any real work, they usually screwed up. So nobody would expect anything from them but they stayed anyway. Unreal!

But they were quite friendly! People didn't hate them.

What you are dealing with is quite common in the corporate world. There are incompetent people everywhere at every level. They take a free ride. There is not much you can about it if it's coming from the top.
