Yes. Cuy, cuyes. Different names. Named "conejito de Indias" in Spanish, bunny of the Indies, stedda Guinea Pig. It's not from Guinea. It's not African. It couldn't use the n word without getting fired even if it did talk. They would get a genealogical (Guinea-logical) chart and say, uh, not African, fired.

And yeah it's more like a bunny than a true rodent. I would totally. Totally willing to eat them.

To the extent I can. Like the way I eat chicken, eat the solid contiguous meat parts, I can't skeletonize chicken like other Chileans can. Like it's incredible, nothing left but bones, like museum quality nothing left to rot, dude like if you fed the leftovers to pirañas all those fish would starve.

daniel-cussen··on The Japanese tradition of raising and eating wasps (2019)
Dude as a Chileanized American (who sought to Americanize from overseas, normally spent all my allowance on American cultural exports) I would totally eat that hamster meat. Yeah rodent but there were rodents the Irkutski (originally Native Americans come from Irkutsk) ate, 1 ton rodents. That's meat. Plus these Peruvian Beef Hamsters are meaty (I forget what the Kechwa name for them is EDIT: Cuy is the name), like bred for that, and there's hygienic practices they follow these aren't rats. And they IIRC weigh a kilogram or so. Dude the shellfish in Chile are much more exotic than that, dude Piure, I want to eat, tastes like money, supernaturally high in vanadium metal, and that's not even the most exotic. And when I was little I would put insects in my mouth, with intellect to know why were clean which weren't.

Oh you want something fun for your catalogue of foods?

Alright so in Chile in the South in January, might as well bring a tennis racket to deal with the Colihuachos. These fucking bumbling slow things menace, they land, they eat a piece of flesh, almost enough to leave scars. And in January it's flooded, twenty per person, the air is flooded, nuts. So they're hated. But there's revenge.

So first you capture one. For instance with a racket, that works great. First off rip its head off. Now it's chilling, great. Why couldn't they all be born headless? Well now we get to the revenge, you take a stick, and carve it's backside out--I guess you'd need to see it done to understand the stickwork necessary--and then you GET TO THE GLAND! There's a gland, it comes out whole, it's nectar they collected before they could fly, in like an instar larva nymphal whatever nonbiting November stage. Nonbiting November stage. They like get nectar from flowers, high sugars. So this totally black insect has this honey gland, and it's like 100 milligrams, but you take it, eat it, tastes good. It's cool.

Love it. The predator gets predated.

daniel-cussen··on Why do all these 20-somethings have closed captions turned on?
Yeah pretty much. Am in fact expressing myself in a very "flowery" manner, artistically. I'm elevating the HN comment to an artform. I actually was thought to be schizophrenic by doctors once upon a time. Diagnosed secretly. Then they walked back on the diagnosis. Rescinded. I still get treated for it, because you don't need to stop taking the medication for it if you don't want to. Loophole.

I wouldn't say mental health issues, either. I pay a lot for psychiatry and get my money's worth, have a handle on it, pretty good patient according to many doctors. Often the favorite. Alpha in the psych ward always, alpha in rehab. Hey somebody gets dealt this hand, what if he plays his cards right?

What if he pulls off checkmates?

daniel-cussen··on Treasury recommends exploring creation of a digital dollar
Well no because this is banks, so some amount more than other industries. It totally depends on their rates, how much they deserve to be demonized. Like in Chile they exponentiate their borrowing costs to the 18th power onto their debtors.

So let me explain: if you borrow at 10%, and double the interest, what do you get? Well the critical thing is time, patience, so doubling the interest means allowing half the time to pay back. So in fact the interest is 1.1, not .1, bankers should never add one or subtract one. You take that 1.1 and you square it, that's double the interest, get 1.21. Just as like, the banks take 1.01 international rates and exponentiate them to the 18th power to get 1.2 percent rates, what the market will bear...sort of, haven't borne it very happily recently. Lots of violence.

Well back then just making a movie was cool, now you gotta make it better, use all the technology available, leave nothing on the table. They're trying to impress each other, stedda making good movies everybody can enjoy.
daniel-cussen··on Why do all these 20-somethings have closed captions turned on?
SUBTITLES: The film industry makes high art as well as common fare. The high art is what the artists want to make and enjoy but it has a very small market. The common fare is what pays the bills, because it sells like 100x more tickets than high art. High art = caviar, Shakespeare "caviar for the general" whereas common fare is hamburgers, flipping burgers, which is a real business, many more servings of hamburgers than caviar.
daniel-cussen··on How to disagree with someone more powerful than you (2016)
In physics that's absolutely right. Work per unit time.

In stereoscopic reality, it's the ability to do what you will. Will. Will to power.

For good or evil, it's up to you. You need power to do good, in fact more power generally.

daniel-cussen··on Stanley Druckenmiller warns the stock market will be ‘flat’ for an entire decade
Well so some stocks are obviously bad, it's not an strong-form efficient stock market for eg Nikola because turns out shorting small stocks can go terribly wrong. It's up to the people who actually own shares to sell them, or forfeit them, like this is worth nothing I'll put it on the exchange for a cent. And in fact on the other hand that is what naked shorting is, only without actually owning a share, identical to casting a ballot you didn't receive, like same as an immigrant or tourist voting without legitimacy, or a dead man's vote.
daniel-cussen··on Man-Computer Symbiosis (1960)
None of those goals are set by algorithms. They're all in heuristics. All machine learning is heuristic. You never know for sure. If the goal were set by an algorithm that would therefore mean it was airtight. That would be like religion or torture, or both. Walking in the footsteps of Jesus.

Despite not actually being algorithms, but heuristics, the demand for those heuristics is insatiable. And it's verifiable, if you eg send two factor matrices here for me to create the product and send it back, you can check a statistically overwhelming amount of them with a laptop in a second.

Not like he has a fucking Bloomberg terminal with no latency or anything. Like he can't spell out FPGA's but he delegates. Not half as senile as he makes himself look, not a shit mathematician at all, not a folklore-driven dude that anybody can imitate (counterfactual, that's part of the business), publishes information on his colon biopsies for a reason, he is rich because he wants to be rich, he likes money. Plus he's the designated "Richest Man in the World" trading off with Bill Gates like they're a wrestling team. Makes no fucking sense, wealth has been aggregating incredibly for thirty years, rich getting richer, more stratified, more clustered, according to literally everyone even USG census, everyone. But the richest man in the world has had 60 billion dollars on the nose since 2000? What the fuck? Apparently now it's a little higher, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, at like $160 or some billion...like no it's not. Diminished variance stedda amplified variance. Silva Paradox, http://fgemm.com. An actual valuation of their wealth would significantly diminish it, and inform others of it, they don't know really. Only a hobo can look in his pocket and say "I have 550 pesos" a rich man it's like either his company has a fluctuating market cap or he needs armies of accountants and lawyers and like occasionally vudu priests literally "Vudunomics" like they believe in magic. Why not? There can be a physics explanation behind it that will not be understood for hundreds of years, if it works hell. Yeah. If it works Hell.

White magic or black magic? Well preferably white but when told that requires giving all wealth away to the poor as the first step, they like say...uh...what's the other one? Be richer and richer, always, black magic. OK that works better. And the richest men wrestling team agreed to give half their wealth away, which is OK that's cool in principle, I don't have a read on that. What I can say is white magic simply is hard, you can't successfully give away all your money, you end up with more even more money, and then you give that away and you get it all back, give all all of it away get down to a penny. Apologize to a beggar when you give it to him (it's considered insulting) dude riches leak into your ascetic life, from every nook and cranny, out of nowhere like not quite to the point of finding cash on the sidewalk (who knows, any day now, it's becoming a sick game). Spesh when you have faith, a mustard seed, thing is a mustard seed is a huge amount of neurons, that's a subsection of your brain that needs to germinate from somewhere, very tricky very tricky, and it doesn't work at all half-way. It's all or nothing. Saying more would make it impossible for you to develop it. Matthew 17:20, that's all I got, that's all you need.

Whereas if Warren Buffett asks me, I'd say "you're rich." Simple as that, and that's the actual question, it's in practice binary, does he have to worry about money or not? No because he's rich.

No, Buffett has no bloomberg terminals, no technology he does understand (he gets for instance stock tickers, gets a ton of things, plays dumb, and some stuff he does in fact not get and is truthful about it, like investing in Apple, he doesn't get that). Yeah bajillion dollars and gets his information for free on yahoo finance like you or me.

daniel-cussen··on Stanley Druckenmiller warns the stock market will be ‘flat’ for an entire decade
[I talk about predicting the future in this essay. I mention that up front because maybe then you can take on the walls of text.]

Companies always go to shit eventually and you're left holding the bag. Spesh because there's no dividends and companies never wind down, they just do gambits with borrowed money. That's the Way of the American CEO. Dude these dumbasses even publish books about that being the way, like Jack Welch's suckafucking book Straight from the Gut yeah spilled his guts alright.

That means that when they can't pay that debt, the creditors have priority, shares get no part of any of the money. So CEOs can't own debt on their own company (I think, there's rules, like they all get broken but there's still rules and breaking them has a cost like in slaps on the wrist, like it has to be very intermediated, because otherwise duh first thing everybody would do is short the company they run and fly it into a mountain). So it looks very smooth, very well thought-out, high-integrity, the American tax system is like that too, looks air tight on form 1040, and if you dig it looks more and more airtight until--whoosh cracked window on an airplane everything flying out. Nah.

Dude get in and get the fuck out. Know when to sell. Bill Browder, whom I don't think much of in most regards and have ripped on here explained why he's a nomad. But having talked him down, he does say smart dead-on-the-money intel. You gotta know first off when to get in. Under the thesis that it's exponential (it's impossible to respect that thesis, cubic at best, cubic is short and sweet, "ex-po-nen-tial" is a mouthful) so you can get in whenever it makes no difference. There's no sexy part of the exponential, every part of the exponential is sexy. Like I don't know I got advice like get out right when it's taking off--it never takes off. It's identical to its derivative, no inflection points, no maxima, no minima, it's the comparable in its uniformity to a flatline. In a sense it is a flatline because of inflation, that connects both curves, e^x - e^x = 0, f(x)=0 is the flatline. Alternately, e^x / e^x = 1, f(x)=1, though that's a totally different flatline.

So there is a moment to get in and that's when there's a genuine crash that nobody saw coming, that later is said to be impossible to predict--dude that's when. But to get in at that point you need to have gotten out before then, ideally at the peak. So because of relativity you can't react to the peak, see oh it just peaked time to sell--no there's a delay, like coupla hours for a customer to talk to his broker, so gotta preempt the peak by a coupla hours, that means gotta give the sell order pre-peak--meaning while it's still going up according to some smooth description of the Brownian curve (you never see it in the full grain, that information costs money an hn user doesn't pay). So it's critical your broker try to talk you out of it--that's a very good sign, just convince him you're stupid and he'll say "eh, masochist"--that's exactly what you want to hear. Because if you do depart the cyclical assets at the peak of the cycle and transfer it to countercyclical assets, then you get a bonus from them (not much, gold is politically oppressed by practically all empires, only one exception) so like gold won't double, but in my analysis that's because it's too feared so instead Bitcoin would jump, and I bet on it on margin almost at the trough, and I got 90% of the appreciation in Oct-Nov last year.

So that's the thing, selling near the top. So it's a totally political move, just like predicting the peak on Sep 27 (when the Fed announced the rate hikes, charts lie inflation lies that was the peak that was when the shit got really sticky and the pipes backed up) 30 days before. So for my personal protection, in order not to be subjected to additional psychiatric malpractice and experiments and all that shit, instead of saying my spine gave me a trillion-dollar twitch, I will play the fool card and say it was a quadrillion dollar twitch. What's the difference? For me both are infinite resources, even a million dollars is infinite resources. The difference--even if I say this explicitly--is when I say quadrillion shrinks say I'm crazy, which is good that's what I want. Chose which ward I end up in carefully. Dude no spinal taps.

You shouldn't read those headlines. Both the ones walking you off a cliff in increasingly devious ways the interviews with Warren Buffett saying buy and hold which is a pessimal strategy, and the headlines announcing x happened because y as if you should think y leads x. It did not, they don't know that, news blogs get a pass in telling people false causes after the fact, dude it's purely made up and it's a guessing game to train you to guess as it suits them. Plato's Cave.
daniel-cussen··on Mortgage Rates Jump Above 6%, Putting Pressure on Housing Market
Willing to negotiate more. Hah. You know I've seen both sides, was getting an introduction to a construction job from a Central American, guy was long-term very solid, told me yeah wages are $20 but they charge $75 dollars per hour to the buyer. Dude willing to negotiate. All about making things more expensive and charging cost-plus. Dude like hospitals $120 for a box of tissue paper. Negreation.

Very negreated market. Everybody squeezing, everybody trying to corner, everybody seeking to conspire, everybody out to fuck you. Less so as you go inland, but to an extent still. Just considered easy money. You and me, anybody who hasn't bought in yet gets negreated. Anything but supply and demand. Dude that's why startups attempt to take on this kind of markets and always fail, that medicine and education, always nosedive, why? Highly negreated. Negreado, treated like a source of free labor, ie like negros especially bozales (direct from Africa) were exploited in Chile. It's supposed to be real estate agents just make shitloads of free money. Like three phone calls boom 60000 USD. No effort. Just sleazing. Connections. Access. So it can't be disrupted, really. The whole industry is set up as an economic army prepared for disruption with...with anything. Everything on the table. You think the entrepreneurs before 2006 couldn't see inefficiencies? Couldn't say hey I can do it better? Didn't have the internet? There were phone lines, there was fax, sneakernet, there was tons, and there was internet going back to the 80's. A professor told me of a spreadsheet business online in the 80's. Dude, the reason disruption can't happen is because everybody backstabs it right away. The industry is that. Also sometimes build houses, also sometimes prescribe some pills, also sometimes actually hand out sheepskins. But the intent is to deny, not supply.

Deny and demand.

daniel-cussen··on Privacy vs. “I have nothing to hide” (2019)
The "nothing to hide" line is diametrical to an American education, which typically provides access to the Bill of Rights. And it was talked about that communism was invasive of privacy and private property, which absolutely cannot exist in any way without privacy. Like if you own a farm, you have the deed. Where in the house is it? How do you enter the house? With a key. What does the key look like? Can't reveal that because then it can be forged and the door opened. OK what if you're locked out? Well then there's another way in nobody knows about it's underneath the flowerpot in the dirt--THAT'S PRIVACY. Private property is founded on privacy. The alternative is being the only man strong enough to lift a boulder blocking the entrance. And even then that's because that man has privacy within his nervous system, his muscles are not connecting to other people's nervous systems with wires. Privacy -> private property. Otherwise you have nothing.

Nothing to hide. Really it was the bitchvictim media saying people said this. It cannot be taken seriously, people don't say this, it's a bitchvictim media trope. They imposed it as a social expectation. Then people think people think that. Dude nothing to hide why wear clothing? They don't show their genitals upon request.

Only saints have nothing to hide. Even then, they typically stand up to torture before betraying information leading to eg the Christian Catacombs.

Nothing to hide, yeah.

Because then there wouldn't be inflation rate rises depression ever. Executives couldn't pass the raises to leaf node employees on directly to the leaf node employees, they'd have to look at their own shit and say, OK I can travel a bit less.

daniel-cussen··on Choosing happiness
I meet many beggars and if they tell me hey I just need it for crack, I'm like, you're Jesus's favorite every one of you, I have very little, but in relative terms compared to them I'm still in practice rich. Like literally I feel embarrassed when I have to tell them I don't have something, I apologize in fact in these cases. I plan ahead for when I'm outside make sure I have loose change and not 10 peso Chilean pennies like actual 500 peso coins (50 cents), money for real. Let them be happy for a bit, hell. State of California did it for me (for ADD treatment, a stimulant), and I paid crazy extra taxes back despite having nothing, just so they can do it for another junkie again.

I'm like, if it's your money you begged for it spend it on whatever you really want, whatever you really really want. There was a serious presidential candidate here saying, Jadué[1]. So what you do with the addicts is you dispense them a reasonable amount, of whatever. Anything.

And really? They're not addicted by accident. There's a reason there wasn't a crack epidemic in the 60's, it wasn't because people couldn't figure out the trivial recipe with fucking baking soda and cocaine like in any kitchen? The CIA did not invent crack because nobody can invent crack because it's not patentable, it's obvious. In fact the crack epidemic is a response to the 60's, crack cures the system of the counter-culture.
