Minor correction, but you probably mean Blackrock-type firms. Blackwater was a private military company.
conbandit··on The Coach in the Operating Room (2011)
I wonder how coaching can be applied to software engineering. As a developer, I undergo code reviews and participate in design discussions, but there isn't a lot of oversight or feedback given on the actual development process.

conbandit··on U.S. Now Says All Online Gambling Illegal, Not Just Sports Bets
While there is some amount of speculation, it represents a small portion of the entire financial space. If you sincerely hold this view, you should take a closer look at the purpose of financial instruments and markets.
conbandit··on Uber exec in March: “we shouldn’t be hitting things every 15,000 miles”
Looks like there's still a lot of work left on that front. I was trying to get some context for the 15000 miles number.
conbandit··on Uber exec in March: “we shouldn’t be hitting things every 15,000 miles”
What is the average number of miles per accident for humans? Is it less than 15000? If yes, this is still good.
conbandit··on Ask HN: What should an ideal developer interview process look like?
I think the idea about skipping 3 is that the applicant is choosing to apply to a particular company. That's implicitly saying that they're willing to work on that company's code. I don't know how valid this is nowadays with the common practice of throwing applications at the wall and seeing what sticks.

conbandit··on B.S. In Artificial Intelligence – Curriculum
Really excited to see the Ethics Elective being a requirement for the major. Would prefer even more than one course, to be honest, but it's a good start. I feel like the ethics of AI isn't getting enough attention and by the time it does it might be too late.
