clydethefrog··on Avoiding outrage fatigue while staying informed
Then you are not aware of all printed papers. As someone outside the USA, my local university library already stocks two - Harper's Magazine and The New York Review of Books (not related to the NYT book section at all). They both have an independent editorial board and decades of dedication to journalism.
clydethefrog··on Avoiding outrage fatigue while staying informed
Good list, especially the last one.

See also social acceleration [1], from German sociologist and political scientist Hartmut Rosa. Rosa argues that this current culture leads to a crisis in democratic self-determination, as the current quick demands of modern society often conflict with the slower, more reflective processes that democracy requires. The pressure to respond quickly can make democratic governance appear dysfunctional, as governments find it increasingly difficult to react to the complex issues of today within tight time constraints.

Gen Z affect? This Substack post has all the staples of a Millenial tumblr blog post, not only the lack of uppercase but also the whimsical drawings of cherished children books to emphasise the “vibe”, and the whole thesis of the post is basically promoting the hipster “”“authenticity “”” (using hipster runoff inspired use of quotes on purpose here)

clydethefrog··on Doctors Without Borders declares the war in Gaza as genocide
Isn’t this the standard in all fields? I trust the top scientists at the Large Hadron Collider to define the presence of a Higgs boson, I trust the doctors of the WHO to define if a pandemic is occurring. These strongly defined terms need experts.
clydethefrog··on Doctors Without Borders declares the war in Gaza as genocide
Anders Puck Nielsen is a Danish military analyst and naval captain at the Royal Danish Defence College, he is not a human rights lawyer. I will trust the organisations and experts that have studied human rights in deciding if a genocide is occuring.
clydethefrog··on Hezbollah pager explosions kill several people in Lebanon
There are several sources online claiming the model used is the Gold Apollo Rugged Pager AR924. This pager is made in Taiwan, a country that has close ties with Israel and it's most important ally USA. Just a week ago Taiwan's Foreign Minister Lin Chia-Lung openly emphasized the critical importance of intelligence sharing and technology cooperation with Israel.

Kagi's "quick answer" option is this though:

No, you cannot melt an egg.[1][2] When an egg is heated, the proteins inside will begin to cook and solidify rather than melt like ice or butter. However, you can melt chocolate eggs by heating the chocolate slowly until it becomes liquid.[3][4]

Wikipedia has a page about the CO2 Coalition as well.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CO2_Coalition

You can find the donations to this organization by this link, there are many donations from leaders that deny climate change.

https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/CO2_Coalition

An easy example of actively disputing the scientific consensus on climate change is claiming that the IPCC reports are not to be trusted. In one of their latest publications, they proclaim: More CO2 is better.

By this maxim you can label any research concerning the creation of the universe as moot.
clydethefrog··on VanMoof encryption key exporter
There is a lot of bikes in Amsterdam in general. Van Moof just stands out because of their 1 marketing, 2 annoying signature noise whenever people bump into them, 3 loud owners that general use it as a status symbol and 4 joke status due to national Dutch publications writing about all the shortcomings of owning this bike.

I live in Groningen, a Dutch city that is even more suited for bikes, and I rarely spot any Van Moof here. There is a big amount of Swapfiets though, because there is a bigger demographic for a sturdy bike that costs 20 euro as month. You can have that bike in theory for 8 years and it still will not have the same cost as a Van Moof.

Why are the anti-nuclear Greens are always blamed for this development? They did not achieve any of their other goals on their agenda (we are still eating more and more meat and destroying nature) but somehow they managed to succeed in this goal - that also pretty much favours the agenda of the powerful and wealthy fossil foil industry.
clydethefrog··on Stop telling kids they’ll die from climate change (2021)
Have you looked at the scientific data of the temperatures of the world the last month? Global warming has breached 1.5°C threshold in summer for 1st time. Ocean temperatures this spring have been the hottest ever at this time of year, in records going back 174 years. Even the most dependable net-zero pledges would still lead to close to 2.5C of warming according to recent study. The world must slash emissions by 43% by 2030 in order to hold warming to 1.5C, by one estimate. No single country has actually implemented policies to make it happen.

And how chaotic the climate has already become after just 1.2C of warming over pre-industrial levels! Deadly heatwaves, droughts and wildfires. Storms and floods. Millions of people have died, been displaced or suffer long-term health effects from these disasters. Species are going extinct en masse. This is just a taste of what may come. The science supports that many, many of us will die.

clydethefrog··on The super-rich ‘preppers’ planning to save themselves
At the end of the article the author, Douglas Rushkoff, realises they didn't ask him specifically for legit advice but rather performed a philosophical and critical evaluation of their justifications for their (selfish) future safety plans. Douglas is a pretty successful media theorist - he coined the terms viral media, digital native, and social currency. I have a theory they probably all asked "great thinkers" [0] for their opinion.

[0] It wouldn't surprised me if they used some thought leader analysis, because Rushkoff is pretty high on that list. https://arxiv.org/abs/1308.1160
