chei0aiV··on Kuhn's Paradox
You are accessing a website that runs proprietary software on the server as well as in your browser.

You are mischaracterising what the opinion of the FSF is in relation to JavaScript; their actual opinion is here:

chei0aiV··on A Skeleton Key of Unknown Strength (CVE-2015-7547)
I would encourage you to publish your solution and get it included in various software distributions.

Debian uses glibc now and eglibc is just a fork of glibc.

If you can think of any improvements Debian could make, please do suggest them via bug reports or on the mailing list. If you would like to work on fixing some of our issues, here are the ones we know about:

chei0aiV··on Kuhn's Paradox
I like it.
chei0aiV··on Kuhn's Paradox
It is a horrible shame that Kuhn's Paradox is true.

I wonder how we can stop this from happening?

Link to the Debian port:

https://wiki.debian.org/ppc64el

More than 96% of Debian is compiled for it and hopefully works ;)

Flash is dying, so ignore that.

Debian has more than 96% of packages compiled for POWER and IBM is working on porting the reset and optimising things.

https://buildd.debian.org/stats/ https://wiki.debian.org/ppc64el

It isn't hard to create new ports, you just have to have the source code, but everyone uses proprietary software so new ports have zero chance outside the open source world.

chei0aiV··on SF tech bro: ‘I shouldn’t have to see the pain, struggle, despair of homeless’
Well, as long as whoever shows up has the required experience and equipment to solve the situation, great! I guess the fire fighting orgs have medical equipment and training too?

Sometimes human organisation is baffling if you are seeing it from a step further out but makes complete sense when viewed from the inside.

What?
chei0aiV··on Renaming Iceweasel to Firefox
The bug tracker has basically one maintainer who is quite busy with other stuff. This is the case for a lot of Debian infrastructure unfortunately. Unfortunately maintaining services isn't a particularly well-staffed job, especially for older services.
chei0aiV··on Renaming Iceweasel to Firefox
Hmm, the website says "Elive is not made for newbies".

> Ok, so Debian is a developers-only distribution?

Absolutely not. You can use Debian and help improve Debian without being a developer and even without being very technical.

You can slightly speed it up by using apt pinning to get security updates from Debian unstable (but other packages from testing) when available.

https://bugs.debian.org/725934

To speed it up even more you would need to follow the unstable/testing pages on the security tracker and file bugs to get maintainers to do fixes and do NMUs when maintainers are on vacation or missing.

chei0aiV··on GitHub responds to Dear GitHub letter
We probably need to do away with partially processed source and distribute just the git repo (or a tarball without .git but with info about which git rev it is) and binary packages for end-users.
chei0aiV··on Anti-Adblock Killer
I would guess that there is a large population of people who use adblock for ideological reasons; your right to display ads stops at my eyeballs.

chei0aiV··on Visual Turing Test
For me the giveaway was the motion effect of the hair following the tilt of her head, followed by the spiralling background.
chei0aiV··on Visual Turing Test
I got 9/10. Chose the first one incorrectly.

For me, the giveaway for computer-generated images was that they don't focus on the "subject" and have too much detail on the background.

For example, look at the computer-generated boats - they blend into the background. It's hard to tell where the boat ends and the rocks begin, or where the sails end and the clouds begin. Or look at the grey house in front of the dude's face or the pipe behind the glasses lady's head, which bring in too much attention but add nothing to the painting.

chei0aiV··on Massachusetts Chief’s Tack in Drug War: Steer Addicts to Rehab, Not Jail
CinderBnB, the jail-cell sharing economy.

Having trouble paying off your mortgage? House an inmate in your basement and earn over $20,000 per year!

Jails overcrowding? Facing budget cuts? Save money by outsourcing inmates to individual jailers!

Reviews:

"We were very hesitant to accept out first inmate, but with our medical bills, it seemed like the only other option was selling the house. Danny turned out to be a sweet young man. Really loves my home-made peach cobbler. I let him have the old PC; he says he uses it to watch educational videos." - Francine Humphrey

"The owner failed to lock the cell and the prisoner waked out the very first night. Edit: CinderBnB customer service was very understanding and offered a full reimbursement for search and recapture" - Sgt. Dale Flannigan

"My lawyer says that according to county law I technically qualify as a tenant, so once my term is up they'll need to evict me but can't keep me locked up" - Shawn Taylor
