Why is that? Are the download servers slow?

Seems like the distros are the traditional solution to this problem.

Please look at Telepathy too.
chei0aiV··on Open Sourcers Race to Build Better Versions of Slack
Can you make an open source Telepathy backend so I can use my existing IM client to connect to your network?

The FSF isn't about prosecuting people, but about getting GPL compliance.

https://sfconservancy.org/copyleft-compliance/principles.htm...

Unfortunately working on GPL compliance is expensive, I would encourage anyone who cares about copyleft to support the Software Freedom Conservancy's efforts.

I think Telepathy was ahead of its time. Shame it didn't get much adoption outside of Nokia and is now on life-support:

chei0aiV··on Offline mobile maps from Mapbox
Why not just use OsmAnd~? Completely offline, including search, navigation, etc. Downloads are per-country.
chei0aiV··on Offline mobile maps from Mapbox
OsmAnd~ can do full offline search, navigation with per-country downloads. The f-droid version is unlimited:

chei0aiV··on Do you trust this application?
The Linux kernel has had a lot of holes in the namespace stuff used for containers, I doubt that there will not be more. Not to mention all the local root exploits, seLinux-bypass, information leaks and so on. If you're relying on Linux features for security without at least using the grsec patches, you probably already lost.
chei0aiV··on Do you trust this application?
Source code unavailability does not seem to stop security researchers from finding security issues in proprietary software. The advantage of free software here is of course that more people can read source code than can do security analysis of compiled software.
chei0aiV··on Do you trust this application?
Most of the bugs he refers to aren't even fixed in git, so yeah, no. The one that is fixed didn't get a CVE so it isn't surprising none of the distro security teams heard about it.

chei0aiV··on We have decided to change the Perfect license [from AGPL to Apache]
Lack of financial support for GPL compliance efforts is also killing the GPL.

chei0aiV··on The Pyra Linux Handheld Computer Has Now a Working Prototype
Not when you have Android/Linux
chei0aiV··on The Pyra Linux Handheld Computer Has Now a Working Prototype
Mainly, I use it as a tiny PC that I carry with me on the go. I use Linux at home, so I essentially have the same software on the Pandora as on my desktop. I can comfortably browse non-mobile websites, email, edit documents with LibreOffice, SSH, remote into work (my workplace uses a Java applet for remote access so can't do it with Android). I can also set a virtual resolution in X11 so that the screen acts as a panning viewport so that more things fit. And of course I can play games on it (although I'm not much of a gaming enthusiast.)

Like:

- Battery life: 10 hours is actual screen on, wifi on time I get

- Size: fits comfortably in my pocket

- Physical keyboard: much easier to enter symbols, doesn't cover the screen

- Accurate "mouse" input (via nub or stylus)

Dislike:

- Keyboard is way too stiff

- Slow nowadays, especially on heavy websites

chei0aiV··on Microsoft will release a custom Debian Linux
They are still responsible for the non-free license on the TianoCore; Intel are having to negotiate with Microsoft to change the license, despite being the copyright holder.

Agreed re not using UEFI. I wouldn't touch CoreBoot though, LibreBoot seems more sane.
