budu3··on How Immigration Uncertainty Threatens America’s Tech Dominance
> in the past it was assumed that the USA would honor visa once they were issued Not true. Having a visa was never a guarantee of entry into the US. Entry was always at the discretion of the border agent at the port of entry [1]. [1] https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/general/frequently...
budu3··on Adblock Plus now sells ads
Not only that but this business model sooner or later is sure to attract regulation from some government agency.
budu3··on Physicist Fotini Markopoulou traded quantum gravity for industrial design
On the surface it looks like her departure is a huge loss to the academic world.

> I applauded her for her bravery for pursuing her own line, but that inevitably brings risks with it. She is a very fundamental thinker; she had original ideas. But at the end of the day you had to decide if those ideas are going to pan out

Why not let the broader community of scientist decide this?

budu3··on Unity raises $181M round at a reported $1.5B valuation

budu3··on Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer Stumbled After Secret Truce with Activist Investor
I hate paywalls as much as the next guy but I've been asking myself this question of late. With newspapers closing down left right and center, with people constantly complain about to dwindling number of news sources, with users increasing unwilling to entertain web ads, how can we fund quality journalism?
budu3··on No Venture Capital Needed, or Wanted
$350000 for a business plan? Isn't that a bit too expensive for a business plan?
budu3··on Change GitBucket user interface to make difference with GitHub
To be fair to them they are not native English speakers. I would have an equally hard time (of not impossible) writing well written Japanese prose.

budu3··on Google Puts Boston Dynamics Up for Sale in Robotics Retreat
It's my understanding the Andy has always been a Robotics geek even dated as far back as his days a Danger. So I find it hard to believe the argument that Andy has to be coerced into perusing a Robotics vision that he had no passion for.

budu3··on Ask HN: Do you work with dogmatic, stubborn developers/sysadmins? Are YOU one?

budu3··on Isaac Newton and Alchemy
If his manuscripts were labeled "not fit to be published" then why are the Univ. of Sussex and Indiana Univ. going out of their way to publish Newton's work in Alchemy. Wouldn't this be against his wishes.
budu3··on OS X 10.10 – Source Code

budu3··on OS X 10.10 – Source Code
I think it's genetic :) Some people are "code pack rats". They're afraid to delete anything.
budu3··on I’m Terrified of My New TV
The Moto X has a "Google Now" functionality where the continuously listens for you commands. Whatever is ships your sound off the Google server is another question.
budu3··on Motorola Mobility becomes part of the Lenovo family of companies
I think the MotoX is a good phone. I hope Lenovo doesn't kill it.
budu3··on Before the Startup
What's an especially productive 22 year old to do?[...] If you're really productive, why not make employers pay market rate for you? Why go work as an ordinary employee for a big company, when you could start a startup and make them buy it to get you?[0]

And though starting a startup can be part of a good life for a lot of ambitious people, age 20 is not the optimal time to do it.[1]

PG seems to be giving contradictory advice or his stance seems to have changed on whether 20 year olds should start a startup

budu3··on The Downtown Project Suicides
Sorry about the ninja edit :) I was still forming my thoughts and trying to figure out how to articulate it properly.
budu3··on The Downtown Project Suicides
I have a strong suspicion that our modern society's obsession with pursuing happiness as an end goal is not healthy. Maybe what we need is an underlying sense of contentment.

budu3··on Standard Markdown
I agree with Gruber. Ambiguity is a feature. It allows every implementer (leanpub, github et al) to add their own idiocentricities while staying true to Gruber's "spirit" of Markdown.
