arkitaip··on Show HN: Generate a static website from any back end
There is hope for this industry when a 18-yo creates such an amazing conversion centric landing page. Well done, m1guelpf.
arkitaip··on Which billionaires are doing the most good?
Because Dorsey donated more money LAST MONTH.
arkitaip··on The Anti-Amazon Alliance
An increasing number of sites are offering next delivery in major cities like Stockholm by partnering with Budbee or Airmee, usually at no extra charge. Same day delivery? It's rare and probably a more expensive delivery option only available in Stockholm.

Ultimately, I think that the small market size, taxes and staffing costs are why lots of international brands - Amazon included - skip Sweden as a market or fail to make an impact after many years.

arkitaip··on Disney claims anyone using a Twitter hashtag is agreeing to their terms of use
I disagree. If you run your social media this ineptly that you become a laughing stock of the platform you are spending millions on to be "cool" and "native", then you have failed. Period.
arkitaip··on Twitter kills off SMS notifications and posting in most countries
Twitter is getting worse on a monthly basis. Just the fact that they have begun adding random tweets and accounts to follow while you're trying to read an existing conversation makes everything more confusing and toxic.
arkitaip··on I Spent $6M on Google Ads Last Year
Weird that you get downvoted when this is probably the default experience for a majority of people on HN. It's probably also a major problem for anyone with entrepreneurial aspirations because we just don't have a truly full understanding of the digital environments most would-be customers live in.
arkitaip··on Psychological techniques to practice Stoicism
> Software developers are not qualified to write about this.

This applies to almost everything posted on HN.

arkitaip··on 'Expert Twitter' Only Goes So Far – Bring Back Blogs
With some minor work you can set up Wordpress to automatically update itself on a 5 USD shared hosting. Just get a no-nonsense theme and keep the plugins to an absolute minimum.
arkitaip··on Medical staff say virus stigma driving Tokyo hospitals to edge of collapse
This isn't really surprising in a country where saving face, social standing and collectivism is everything. Other horrible consequences of these deeply embedded social systems are "evaporated people" [0][1] and the terrible treatment of single parents [2][3].

arkitaip··on Why editorial illustrations look so similar these days (2019)
They are literally using the image to illustrate their point.
arkitaip··on Surgical mask brace creates a seal making standard masks comparable to N95s
I can't be the only one who hasn't been able to buy a surgical mask since covid-19 began spreading.
arkitaip··on SoftBank expects $24B in losses from Vision Fund, WeWork and OneWeb
Huge risk taker or just a terrible investor?
arkitaip··on Office noise generator
Maybe Karl Pilkington works here [0]

arkitaip··on How SEO Ruined the Internet
Recipes have become hilarious as they have transitioned into storytelling pieces for whoever is trying to promote their lifestyle blog.
arkitaip··on Building dark mode on Stack Overflow
This literally happened as I switched from TFA to this HN post...
arkitaip··on Building dark mode on Stack Overflow
It could be a major undertaking for a sufficiently complex site like Stackoverflow, just like the article illustrates, because there just so many UI elements to re-color.
arkitaip··on We're in for 2 Months
China has already seen an increase in divorces due to covid-19 [0]. Domestic abuse has skyrocketed in France [1].

arkitaip··on Austria to make basic face masks compulsory in supermarkets
All of this confusion regarding the usefulness of masks simply because of WHO's misinformation.

Lex Fridman made this research.based video about masks that you might find useful [0]. Take a look at the data; even a lousy scarf can provide some protection against virus particles.

arkitaip··on SF Bar Owner to Yelp: ‘Fuck All of These People Entirely’
When people don't trust you even when you try to do something good for them - literally giving them money - that's a clear indicator that your reputation is terrible. And this reasoning assumes an incredibly generous interpretation of Yelp's actions here, a company known for countless predatory business practices over many years.
arkitaip··on Google, LG, are not choosing snapdragon 865 for flagships due to high price tag
Heck, many can't tell the difference between RAM and storage despite having owned a mobile for years/decades.
arkitaip··on Stagnation and Scientific Incentives
You can already do that with a Chrome plugin, like Google Search Filter: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-search-filt...
arkitaip··on Mozilla will remove FTP support in Firefox
I think you are right?? The writeups are still accessible thru the nav menu.
arkitaip··on Mozilla will remove FTP support in Firefox
I would genuinely be surprised if even 5% of users used FTP in the last year. But damn do I wish they kept the feature in; Firefox should distinguish itself as the tech worker's browser, sorta like a forensics live CD that has every imaginable tool you need for deep work.
arkitaip··on Mozilla will remove FTP support in Firefox
I can't believe they have a dysfunctional captcha (doesn't display a captcha at all). That's hilarious considering how critical n-gate is about useless tech.
arkitaip··on California governor issues statewide 'stay at home' order
Historically, a reasonably safe vaccine has taken many years to develop. Rushing a vaccine through the system so it only takes months? Yeah, I not going to stand in line to get vaccinated.
arkitaip··on New coronavirus stable for hours on surfaces
And here I thought that hand washing was recommended like crazy to prevent people from getting the virus into their mouth, eyes and nose. The lack of accurate information is maddening.
arkitaip··on Vitamin D supplementation to prevent acute respiratory tract infections (2017)
And most offices have too high carbon dioxide levels, so much so that researchers can actually measure the negative impact on cognitive abilities [1].

arkitaip··on Vitamin D supplementation to prevent acute respiratory tract infections (2017)
Probably. Or maybe a less stressful commute to work, no crazy office politics, a change in diet/exercise (because you now have time to do those things properly)... It's really difficult to accurately establish correlation let alone causality when it comes to changes in one's health.
arkitaip··on Google's ambitious push into gaming is floundering
No matter what happens with Stadia and its market, Google simply cannot afford to kill the projects in the next few years. It would be a huge blow to their already tarnished reputation wrt keeping services alive. They need to prove to the world that they can long-term commit to major challenges even if they are suffering in the short-term.
arkitaip··on William Gibson on the apocalypse: “it’s been happening for at least 100 years”
But it does make someone a hypocrite and maybe not someone you want to spend time listening to. In your example, it would be more relevant if you were a public figure who talked about the dangers of car driving wrt kids...
