apazzolini··on Go 1.18
Here's a blog series that you'll likely find enlightening: https://jesseduffield.com/Gos-Shortcomings-1/
apazzolini··on Is Grammarly a keylogger? What can you do about it?
Yes, clarity and grammar matter. For example, with your lack of capitalization, I wouldn't know if you were trying to help your Uncle Jack off a horse or your uncle jack off a horse.
apazzolini··on I’m porting the TypeScript type checker tsc to Go
We use SWC with ts-node to strip types in dev for faster iteration loops and run the full tsc typechecker in CI (and optionally as a separate process on your local machine).
apazzolini··on Hammerspoon – Lua-based powerful tool automation of macOS
Semicolon actually seems pretty awesome as an extra modifier key. Will give that a go in QMK, ty!
apazzolini··on The Applecare Hustle
The only Apple device I buy Applecare for is the Airpods because the battery really does degrade dramatically. I set a calendar reminder for a few weeks before expiration to get them replaced.

apazzolini··on U.S. FTC says Facebook misused privacy decree to shut down ad research
Up until June 14th of this year, the ruling was that scraping is legal from the HiQ vs LinkedIn lawsuit[0].

While finding that link for you, I learned that since that date, the Supreme Court vacated the decision back to the lower courts in light of a new decision of theirs.[1]

Now I don't think it's clear one way or the other just yet. Any lawyers here with an opinion on how this is going to go? I haven't found any analysis.

apazzolini··on U.S. FTC says Facebook misused privacy decree to shut down ad research
"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it."

This quote shows up often, but it really is just perfectly pithy.

apazzolini··on Quad9 and Sony Music: German Injunction Status
I've been a happily paying customer of Spotify for nearly a decade now.

This is the kind of shit that makes me reconsider returning to piracy.

apazzolini··on Jonathan Smith walks free after 21 years of wrongful imprisonment
IMO the only fair solution is their own incarceration for the equal number of days, but the only real consequence will be a slap on the wrist.

Notable cunt Annie Dookhan[0] is responsible for putting up to 40,000 innocent people in jail by falsifying DNA records for the Massachusetts state AG. Over 21,000 cases have already been dropped. Her punishment? 3 years.

apazzolini··on Proposed bill to ban US government from buying location data [pdf]
IANAL, but it seems to me that cell tower triangulation data proves a phone was at a given place at a given time but says nothing about who was in possession of the phone.
apazzolini··on Every Noise at Once
I'm happy every time I come across this site - it's always a fun way to spend some time, and I've found more than a few great artists here.
apazzolini··on Numi – Calculator app for Mac
If you're using OS X, try using Spotlight or Alfred directly (Keypirinha[0] is a reasonable Windows alternative) - just type in `1 + 2` and you get the answer without launching a special app. There are plugins for conversions as well.

apazzolini··on Why I Became a Software Engineer
When I was at UT Austin for a CS degree, PHL 313k (symbolic logic) was a requirement. It was a very difficult class, but very rewarding.
apazzolini··on Ask HN: Best Paid Gmail Replacement?
Fastmail's web UI is incredibly good. I've also been using it for several years on my custom domain and have zero complaints.

The migration process was pretty painless. I did a one time import of my historical mail from gmail and then set up an autoforwarder --> specific fastmail folder that I look at from time to time and either unsubscribe from whatever sent an email there or update the address as appropriate.

apazzolini··on Manifest V3 now available on M88 Beta
Manifest v3 prompted my permanent move to Firefox as well. Good riddance, Chrome.
apazzolini··on Switching from Vim to Intellij
This will get a lot simpler in the next couple of months when Neovim 0.5 ships with built in LSP support.
apazzolini··on Denmark to cull millions of minks over mutated coronavirus
I completely agree with your first paragraph, but humans > minks by literally any measure.
apazzolini··on Document your code just by hitting “record”
Books are pretty good, why bother with movies?
apazzolini··on Coal baron Robert Murray has died
It's a reference to the scathing coverage of Murray from Last Week Tonight.
apazzolini··on Manually verified job salaries/offers in Artificial Intelligence
The irony in needing to manually verify job salaries/offers in the AI field is just so [img-italian-chef-kiss]
apazzolini··on PostgreSQL 13
Oh how I wish Sequel Pro/Ace worked on Postgres.
apazzolini··on Why is Apple acting like an asshole?
The fact that some apps are broken and users with auto-update turned on are now unable to use those apps for a week?
apazzolini··on iPad Air 2020
Looks good, but I'll hold out for a similar upgrade in the Mini form factor. I don't see the extra size, weight, and sharp corners as an improvement for reading in bed.
apazzolini··on Apple Event 2020
I searched a bit - I think you're correct, and also offline support looks to be in beta in the Swedish version of Spotify, so maybe it's actually coming at some point.
apazzolini··on Apple Event 2020
Pretty sure Apple doesn't expose the correct APIs to allow this on the GPS model of the watch - at least that was the case when I last researched this.
apazzolini··on Apple Event 2020
The real question the lady should have asked about what the watch can do is play songs from Spotify without your iPhone near you, like when you're running.

Spoiler alert: You can't.

apazzolini··on Apple Terminates Epic Games' Developer Account
It's disingenuous to claim Apple built and promoted the platform by themselves - third party developers are a huge reason behind iOS's success, and the iPhone wouldn't be what it is today if it only had first-party apps.
apazzolini··on No Hello (2013)
I laughed.
