addison-lee··on My small revenge on Apple
I did not call their app ugly out of the blue, they are the ones who brought that up on their own. This small thing called context might be lost on you.
addison-lee··on My small revenge on Apple
The developer has every right to do what they did just as I have every right to call out their bullshit. Why don’t you fuck off?

I did say “almost always”. Also you showed (somewhat morally ambiguous haha) problem solving and resourcing—two highly sought after skills.

Let’s also not discount the fact that negotiation is a skill itself, and you were learning from your stepsister who sounds like a skilled negotiator. If you had to negotiate another raise in-person I would bet you could think back to the cards and knock it out.

addison-lee··on California sues Activision Blizzard over unequal pay, sexual harassment
You’re right, being a bad negotiator does not always correlate to being a bad communicator. But being a good negotiator almost always correlates to being a good communicator.
addison-lee··on California sues Activision Blizzard over unequal pay, sexual harassment
Good negotiation skills = good communication skills. Communication is a skill that 80% of the engineers I meet don’t have. Don’t be upset that someone negotiated a higher salary than you when they were hired, you could have tried just the same.

What an abysmal quote. It is completely false, and does nothing to encourage intelligent people to go into teaching which we desperately need.
addison-lee··on Ask HN: Are Dishwashing Machines Bullshit?
It means take the fork and push stuff into the trash. This isn’t rocket science here.
addison-lee··on America, Stop Moving West
I love how this “article” completely glosses over the fact that the northeast/Midwest gets devastating snowstorms that cripple entire states for days at a time. These “polar vortexes” are clearly becoming more severe and more common as the earth’s weather continues to spiral out of control.

So the options are move somewhere where it’s hell on earth for a portion of the year, move somewhere where it’s a frozen wasteland for a portion of the year, or move somewhere temperate along the coast which is also going to be impacted by climate change.

Author should get off their high horse.

I can’t speak for who you’re replying to but having to maintain my phone like that sounds awful. I have my computer that I can endlessly tinker with—I want my phone to be a phone and just work.

I don’t see how it would be especially if you pair it with a questionable asking if they treat all former employees like this.
addison-lee··on APIs will disrupt RPA. This is obvious to engineers
Pretty silly take. APIs supplement RPA, they don’t “disrupt” it. Additionally, most B2B companies outside of tech-land have 0 interest in creating APIs. Are you going to wait for the API that never comes, or do RPA?

Also the whole “chrome has no API” is wrong. Ever heard of selenium or puppeteer?

The last time I brought this up there was a surprising amount of people trying to defend this behavior from TikTok. Glad to see you bring this up—awful company.
addison-lee··on On incels, dead bedrooms and the hard problems of loneliness
43% of men experience sexual assault/harassment in their lifetime, yet you are sticking by your statement that “Your son will likely never be sexually harassed or assaulted”? A 57% chance of something happening is definitely not likely.

And yes I am clearly making a point: people that gloss over sexual crimes against men are spreading destructive lies not supported by any data. Maybe it went over your head the first time I said it?

addison-lee··on On incels, dead bedrooms and the hard problems of loneliness
And there it is, your bias is exactly the problem.

Per https://www.nsvrc.org/statistics 81% of women experience sexual harassment/assault in their lifetimes along with 43% of men.

Please educate yourself and stop spreading the lie that men are not sexually assaulted, it’s incredibly destructive.

I don’t think an iris like that would last very long with the immense pressures in the cylinders. It makes way more sense to electronically control the valves themselves, like Koenigsegg is doing with their Freevalve tech, so you get the mechanical seal of the valve with the control of electronics.

addison-lee··on Climate change and the 1991-2020 U.S. Climate Normals
From what I understand it is feedback loops that cause concern for exponential climate change. For example, snow reflects a large amount of the sun’s energy back into space. As you lose the snow cover you absorb more heat causing more snow to melt, leading to snow melting faster, etc. etc.

Another example is in the Arctic tundra. The top layer of the ground was always frozen, i.e. a permafrost. However now that layer is melting and it releases a ton of methane. Methane causes the temperatures to rise, leading to the permafrost melting faster and more methane being released.
