Nk26··on Having your insulin pump die while you're on vacation
This is a very large fear of mine but we've been lucky to have extra supplies in almost every T1D category. People seem to forget that most diabetic supplies in the US are gated by insurance who make it extremely difficult to create a small stash. We bring extra ( most that i had to cash pay for ) insulin, long acting , CGM's, multiple blood glucose monitors. We also recently were able to bring my sons old X2 with us on vacation. So we have backups for everything.

Also use facebook groups if your in a situation like OP is in. I could post on my local T1D group looking for long acting and could get 5-10 offers.

Nk26··on Advice to Tenstorrent
Comma.ai is the best tech I've bought in the last 3 or 4 years at least. Ive put thousands of miles into it and I've never had any issues.

Oh shoot I read the comments first

They also had a way to share friend codes in game. I don’t remember exactly what it was but there was a mechanism that had letters on a wall and combined with a few other things you could make out someone’s code.

Source: my wife played this for way too long.

Nk26··on Show HN: The App I Built to Help Manage My Diabetes, Powered by GPT-4o-Mini
What do you use then to make these decisions? If you use your eyes, app, nutrition label or Chatgpt, you would still have the same variables. You're still making the decision based on averages, and best guesses.

I meant more in a general way, like a piece of pizza is usually around X carbs. We have apps that make the guess a bit easier but it's almost always a guess. I was thinking could this look at a photo and know there's a sweet potato, a piece of chicken and some corn and give a basic idea.

Does the photo recognition attempt to carb count what it sees? Is that even possible? My son is a T1D and he still struggles with carb counting.
Nk26··on Comma.ai: Refactoring for Growth
Same, I love mine, I really wanted what basic autopilot gives in a Tesla in my Highlander and it does that incredibly well.
Nk26··on Amazon is chopping jobs at its One Medical and Pharmacy units
Amazon pharmacy is probably one of the best interactions I’ve had with Amazon and pharmacies in general. We moved everything we could to it. The support has been great. Get things quickly all the information is right up front.
Nk26··on Ask HN: What's the coolest website you know?
I don't know if they still have it but they used to have a giant catalog that was the same thing in paper form. Super thin paper thousands of pages of just random stuff.
Nk26··on AWS CloudFormation now supports blue/green deployments for Amazon ECS
I would like to know the same, we have moved almost everything to fargate and ecs and have had zero issues.
Nk26··on Apple faces class action lawsuit over failing MacBook butterfly keyboards
I haven't had a key fail on my 2017 yet, but the keys are all over the place in terms of how they feel. The delete key works but feels like not actuating properly. The spacebar is awful.
Nk26··on How Backblaze Got Started (2017)
I never really thought about this until just now but your 100% right. I use both B2 and their consumer service and never had any issues.
Nk26··on Show HN: WeatherTunes — The right tunes for right now
App looks very cool, how did you learn how to code?
Nk26··on The Search for the Perfect To-do List
I'd like one that will show future repeated tasks in the list. If I have something that repeats every week id like to see in the list with the stuff I have planned for the next few weeks.
Nk26··on Introducing 1Password for Teams
1password across all versions is pretty damn quick for me.
Nk26··on Reddit Acquires Alien Blue, the Most Popular Unofficial Reddit App
Yah the only issue I ever had with Alien blue is the LONG update interval. Hopefully now bug fixes will come much faster.
Nk26··on Justin.tv has shut down
I get that email pretty much every month now, nice thing about Cox is they don't do anything if they have to send it out. It's really just a notification.
Nk26··on Gillette's New Razor Could Overturn Its 100-Year-Old Business Model
I bought a Gillette Super Speed years ago on Ebay. They are widely considered the least aggressive and best for starters. I also have a Merkur Futur but I would not recommend that for a first timer.
Nk26··on Gillette's New Razor Could Overturn Its 100-Year-Old Business Model
I've been using a Double Edge safety razor for over 10 years. I can't imagine going back to a Mach 3 style razor. I can buy a 100 pack of Astra's for $11 shipped.
Nk26··on Technichi: Macbook Subscription Service
I goto school with a lot of people who would jump all over this. If the credit requirement's aren't crazy and students could easily get approved, this could be a game changer. I'm assuming it's going to be a 1 or 2 year term and they are relying on the high resale value once you send it back to profit or re rent the old systems for a lower price.
Nk26··on Coming Soon to Hacker News: Pending Comments
I completely agree, I personally want to see everyone's comments not just the ones that have been curated by the chosen.
Nk26··on TunnelBear VPN app
Tried them about a year ago, Service was pretty slow. Never heard from CS after 3 attempts. Ended up needing to go through PayPal to get my money back. Private internet access has been my goto ever since.
