LeeHwang··on A Small Fintech Stock Surged 2,400% After Announcing It’s a Crypto Company
Well I see bitcoin talks by instagram models saying they are bitcoin gurus now too.

I'm inclined to think bitcoin is a bubble, but cryptotech is the future.

LeeHwang··on College Presidents Making $1M Rise with Tuition and Student Debt
This is just offensive. I know so many kids with degrees just struggling under debt and poor job prospects.

We need a reformation for universities and their contract with society.

LeeHwang··on Meat tax ‘inevitable’ to beat climate and health crises, says report
People probably did. Plus it was ultimately decided by a bloody civil war that still has lasting cultural and mental consequences to this current day.

So do you really believe eating meat is at the same level as human slavery , or is it an argument to ridiculousness.

My point was we should not ignore the human cultural consequences in our logical calculus, humans aren't purely rational actors .

LeeHwang··on Made redundant by automation, tech workers in India are embracing online therapy
The bigger concern is here is the clear link between automation and increased worker mental instability.

Will automation lead to more populists revolts ? I don't know but we need research into more solutions (besides just basic income), the problem is too big to ignore.

LeeHwang··on Meat tax ‘inevitable’ to beat climate and health crises, says report
Something like a partial tax might be better. A tax that doesn't affect the meat, the lower classes buy. A much higher tax on the cuts of meat preferred by the upper classes.

Ex. no tax on ground beef, but a very high tax on filet mignon or ny strip steaks.

I personally think we can have a less divisive higher environmental impact by banning private jets.

LeeHwang··on Meat tax ‘inevitable’ to beat climate and health crises, says report
Please don't.

A tax will lead to democrat losses in 2018. The sugar tax in philadelphia galvanized republicans across the rest of PA during 2016.

Eating meat is incredibly important to the middle classes. BBQ's are important social quasi-religious family bonding events in the United States. Taxing meat will lead to backlash far bigger than a "tea party".

LeeHwang··on How Duterte Turned Facebook into a Weapon, with Help from Facebook
Isn't time for facebook to be regulated by the government ? This is just unbelievable.
LeeHwang··on Steve Jobs on how to hire, manage, and lead people [video]
I hope Tim Cook watches this, because my respect for apple is tanking.
LeeHwang··on I tried emailing like a CEO and it made my life better
Yea I can see this backfiring over the long term.

A counter example is Nintendo, where Sakurai was literally recorded, so people wouldn't be confused about the project status and what he told them to do.

LeeHwang··on Woman with Transplanted Uterus Gives Birth, the First in the U.S
Don't most people feel the exact same way ?
LeeHwang··on Shouting ‘pay your taxes,’ activists occupy Apple retail stores across France
I really respect this. We need to publically shame and boycott companies that hide their money and refuse to pay taxes.

The government isn't doing anything, but we can !

LeeHwang··on Why Did ProtonMail Vanish from Google Search Results? (2016)
Google needs to be investigated and broken up. Its beyond time for an investigation and regulation of Google from the united states government.

Other countries are already starting work against Google. The power Google wields over the general public warrants severe investigation at even the hint of abuse of power.

LeeHwang··on Facebook's market share has declined by 7.2% in the last six months
Is this the beginning of a myspace death spiral ?

I've noticed a lot of younger people moving away from facebook to trendier platforms. Instagram and Periscope? seems to be huge.

LeeHwang··on Google faces UK legal action for bypassing iPhone privacy settings to target ads
Good. It's time for the us government to also start regulating Google at home for this kind of nonsense.
LeeHwang··on Woman offers WaPo false tale about Roy Moore in effort to discredit the paper
You are arguing something I'm not talking about at all.

This is obviously a heated topic for you, and as a democrat myself I don't think you are doing us any favors. The hard-left isn't a good thing, they promote violence to achieve their agendas, and say things like "centrists get the bullet too". I really despise the normalization of political violence.

You need to take a step back.

LeeHwang··on Woman offers WaPo false tale about Roy Moore in effort to discredit the paper
Probably meant the hard-left, democrats call the alt-left the hard-left (ex. clinton, the mainstream media).

Republicans (trump, the republican media) are trying to rebrand the hard left as the alt-left.

And the hard left most definitely exists.

LeeHwang··on The 'masculine mystique' – why men can't ditch the baggage of being a bloke
Wow, thanks for this comment. It's hugely enlightening. Its almost like female humans are the ones who desire masculinity in men to be happy more than the men need masculinity to be happy. Really mind boggling.
LeeHwang··on Cloudflare Might Be Exploring a Way to Slow Down Ajit Pai's Home Internet Speed
Hilarious.

We also need to put pressure on them to simplify and close loopholes in the 400 page net neutrality document.

I think an NRA-styled non-partisan single issue internet freedom organization is needed to put pressure on our elected officials. It's amazing how much politicians fear the NRA, I wish we could get them to fear eroding our freedom.

Cloudflare's example is also a great reason why we also need to enforce neutrality on more than just the ISP to keep the internet free and open. The whole system from DNS providers, hosting, and other major internet companies need to have neutrality enforced on them.

LeeHwang··on Brilliant Jerks in Engineering
This really hit close to home.

I work with engineer whose is brilliant. We originally thought he was jerk, but the bosses loved him because he was a 5x engineer with the ability to handle huge cognitive loads, catch errors or conflicts in our large systems in the planning phase.

It turns out he was neuro atypical, and was actually nice guy, it turned out he was the one paying for friday pizzas not the boss. He was just too ahead of us, and honestly we let our inferiority complexes and frustration color our opinions of him.

LeeHwang··on Thousands of scientists issue bleak ‘second notice’ to humanity
I think apocalyptic warning don't work well for humans.

Competition and inspiration work better. We need to reframe the way we discuss this, because after 25 years its clear the current frame is not working.

After the replication crisis, I also think trust in science has decreased significantly. Its now nearly 3 years from the original crisis, and the crisis has spread from social sciences to biological sciences.

So I don't expect warnings from scientists to suddenly be more effective, but actually less effective from now until the next scientific reformation.

LeeHwang··on Google accused of racketeering in lawsuit
At Comcast, we often joke Google is more evil than us. So I'm not surprised by this.
LeeHwang··on Artificial intelligence pioneer says we need to start over
Do you mean the theory of scientific revolution ?
LeeHwang··on Former FB exec says Google, Facebook are surveillance states and risk regulation
This is surprising. There is a lot of chatter on both american political sides for regulation on amazon, google, facebook, and apple. I guess this is going to be their big oil moment.
LeeHwang··on Google stops challenging most US warrants for data on overseas servers
Disappointing, I guess the threats of monopoly busting them have gotten too real.
LeeHwang··on Ask HN: For those moving away from React what options are you considering?
My company is switching to a combination of little to no js, vue.js, and jquery.

The big fear of c-level guys is to avoid another react legal situation. We've already had to dump angular, and after react, I now get enormous pushback on using any framework system that wasn't created internally.

LeeHwang··on Lawsuit: Sexual harassment ‘victim’ was San Francisco business rival in disguise
The common explanation I've heard is sperm is cheap, eggs are expensive. This leads to the ramifications of men being considered disposable compared to the lives of women where hard labor isn't needed as much.
LeeHwang··on Show HN All US doctors ordered by their opioid prescription count
The stigma of opioids is going to painful for patients. My wisdom teeth were removed, and my surgeon did not want to prescribe any. I was in pain for a couple days before I screamed at them and something that worked. It was a very unpleasant experience.
LeeHwang··on 6 Women Accuse Tech VC Justin Caldbeck of Sexual Assault and Harassment
Its a lose-lose for men, but Pence's route is the far safer option.
LeeHwang··on 6 Women Accuse Tech VC Justin Caldbeck of Sexual Assault and Harassment
Don't let these silicon valley stories fool you. Blame extremists and people who exploit gender relations for money. Most americans are decent people who do the exact type of behavior you mention, and its not a problem.

Big money leads to terrible behavior due to power differences. Men AND Women willing to take advantage of less powerful people. I have a female friend who was sexually harrassed by a female VC, and again the same dynamics played out. Its not about gender but primal human desires and power.

LeeHwang··on Top Republican Steve Scalise wounded in multiple shooting
Some other reports are saying the gunman made sure to ask if they were republicans or democrats. He wanted to kill republicans. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/06/14/shots-fired-repub...

Very disturbing, political violence and violent rhetoric is escalating.

examples: Loretta Lynch calling death and blood in the streets https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9bquunDh1Y is now quickly going viral in various republican circles.

also the trump assassination in the caesar play and kathy griffin trump beheading are awful.
