Kluggy··on Apple's decision to drop iPhone web apps comes under scrutiny in the EU
How do you ensure that it works? does chrome have all the hooks needed to have this actually work correctly?
Kluggy··on Apple's decision to drop iPhone web apps comes under scrutiny in the EU
You can disable auto-updates in settings.
Kluggy··on Star Trek: Borg – Remastered
The audio is direct from the source. Are their tools to automatically improve the audio like the video?
Kluggy··on Hidden GitHub commits and how to reveal them
How do you do that once it's on Github's servers?
Kluggy··on Intel Processor Instability Causing Oodle Decompression Failures
https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/tu... has "ASUS Multicore Enhancement" bios setting which defaulted to Auto which is documented as "This item allows you to maximize the overclocking performance optimized by ASUS core ratio settings."

They have now entered the AI bubble with

https://www.asus.com/microsite/motherboard/Intelligent-mothe...

MSI has a similar setting, although I don't know exactly what models have it nor what it's called

Kluggy··on Intel Processor Instability Causing Oodle Decompression Failures
CPU manufacturers certainly hold the line you stated but motherboard venders have jumped over the line and now sell motherboards that overlock for the end user entirely transparently.

It’s fair for the end user who bought a motherboard that promises a higher clock speed to expect that clock speed.

Kluggy··on Tyler Perry Puts $800M Studio Expansion on Hold After Seeing OpenAI's Sora
I fear we are going to slog though decades of low quality content that looks amazing, but the meat of the story is just empty. Truth is that most production try to tell a human story at their core and being able to have AI generate it off a small description is going to leave it feeling empty.
Kluggy··on Show HN: Swift Mail. Fastmail's modern mail standard delivered natively on macOS
Over all, I like how it looks, but the price seems high. $3 a month is almost as much as I pay for email service.

Plus it seems weird to double drip. I’m already subscribed to you for the email service and you want me to almost double that price for a client to use it?

Will the existing Fastmail app be deprecated to force folks to the new subscription app?

Kluggy··on Earth-1217: where every CSV file has two header rows: column names and units
In the fictional world where excel understands the second header row, it could just as easily understand a unit delimiter and units in a single header row.

Either would make my day as a programmer though.

Kluggy··on How to keep engineers out of meeting hell
We prioritize relationships a ton here and so I meet 1:1 with each of my peers in both teams (3) and each manager of both teams, so that’s 8 people per week.

The entire company has extensive amounts of 1:1s. Were in the mid 40’s of employee count.

Kluggy··on How to keep engineers out of meeting hell
I have two daily stand-ups (30 minutes) with different teams I’m a part of

A weekly status meeting (1 hr)

Three weekly status meeting update planning meetings (1 hr each)

Sprint planning every other week (2 hr)

Demo and retros every other week (2 hr)

Eight 1:1 weekly meetings (4 hrs)

That’s 12.5 hours per week so far without even counting any real project meeting where we solve anything. I’m generally around 16 hours a week in meetings and I’m not even a lead or anything. Just a standard coder at a small company.

And our velocity shows it. We’re slow at getting stuff done cause we just don’t have windows of time to focus. When meetings are only an hour apart, I rarely get to do anything productive between them. So two hour meetings can eat three hours+ of productivity.

Kluggy··on Freenginx: Core Nginx developer announces fork
Rage-fork doesn’t show up anywhere in their announcement, nor does it read like they’re doing something specifically out of rage.

Everyone has a right to forking the project. Only time will tell if they get critical mass of developers to keep it going.

Kluggy··on Show HN: Multi-monitor KVM using just a USB switch

Kluggy··on Show HN: Multi-monitor KVM using just a USB switch
Do the other computers detect the lack of a display when they're switched on the monitor?
Kluggy··on A man has been swatted 47 times for making a joke about Norm Macdonald
It is difficult to get a officer to understand something, when their overtime depends upon not understanding it.
Kluggy··on Apple Vision Pro – Why Monitor Replacement Is Ridiculous
The display is good enough to use for a monitor replacement. It's not the same quality as my 4k or 5k monitors, but it's good enough to use, which is different than the Quest 2.
Kluggy··on Microsoft's Fast
A QA engineer walks into a bar and orders a beer. They order 2 beers. They order 0 beers. They order -1 beers. They order a lizard. They order a NULLPTR. They try to leave without paying. Satisfied, they declare the bar ready for business.

The first customer comes in an orders a beer. They finish their drink, and then ask where the bathroom is. The bar explodes.

Kluggy··on I bought the Apple Vision Pro and even though the tech is amazing I returned it
I've had a HTC Vive, Quest 2, and the Valve Index. It's much higher fidelity than any of them by a very large margin.

The virtual desktop feature is pretty similar experiences.

The hand tracking controls are classic apple (it just works). The eye tracking can use some more work.

I do feel that this could be the future. It's a huge step forward in certain areas, and I think the rest will be fixed. In a generation or two, this is going to be really compelling. I never felt that way about any of the other headsets I own.

Kluggy··on I bought the Apple Vision Pro and even though the tech is amazing I returned it
The picture quality is absolutely amazing. Between the Quest 2 and the Vision pro, the difference is similar to SD to HD tv (480p to 1080p). It's a huge leap forward, and for spatial videos, it's an entirely different feeling.
Kluggy··on Chris Wanstrath "defunkt" GitHub cofounder and former CEO is banned on GitHub
The issue is more that p2p is always touted as the solution and yet there's been almost zero actually useful solutions developed. There's some fundamental issues preventing the decentralized network to be a generic solution and until that's sorted out, it doesn't seem to add to a conversation to bring up p2p as a solution.

Kluggy··on Apple Vision Pro and ADHD
It doesn't come across as laggy, but... smeary? if I move my head to the side, everything smears for a little bit before it snaps back into focus. It's a bit rough for me to move around in, but I'm pretty sensitive to motion.
Kluggy··on Apple Vision Pro and ADHD
I think it's a pretty polarizing experience. Either you fall in love with it and go all in, or you don't and it's just not worth the squeeze. 14 days seems plenty of time.
Kluggy··on CaseyNeistat – the thing no one will say about Apple Vision Pro [video]
There's a Travel mode that you need to enable in the control center. When enabled, it keeps your windows anchored to your view, when disabled, they're anchored to a place in the physical world, so you can move around them.
Kluggy··on Vision Pro's killer feature? It's a wearable Mac
Swapping the battery requires a full power down. You can charge the battery pack directly while using it, so that’s going to be the common mode of operation.
Kluggy··on Goodbye non-KISS appliances
We did lose a fridge full of food once. On our way out for the weekend, my wife opened the freezer to grab ice to pack the cooler. She left the freezer door slightly ajar and grabbed the cooler and threw it in the car and we left.

We came home on Sunday to the fridge and freezer completely ambient temp and had to toss everything.

If we had a mobile alert on our phone, we could have turned around and closed it just fine, or asked our neighbor to.
