Justin_K··on Second study finds Uber used opaque algorithm to dramatically boost profits
Sadly, cab drivers did the same thing. Countless times I was given overpriced rates in times of need, like late night closing time.
Justin_K··on Insurers launch cover for losses caused by AI chatbot errors
It's called errors and omissions and it's as basic an insurance as it gets.
Justin_K··on California's $20 fast-food minimum wage improves pay at small cost to consumers
People said the same when factory automation came about. Wouldn't you agree that it's silly to pay a human to press the buttons you verbalize?
Justin_K··on Mark Zuckerberg Says Social Media Is Over
I’ve basically stopped using the site for all the same reasons. I think it is because their engagement by real human users is near zero. In order to keep it freshfor whoever is left, like seniors hoping for an occasional pic of their grandkids, they fill it with the garbage
Justin_K··on First hormone-free male birth control pill enters human trials
Female birth control states the same, as nothing is ever 100%
Justin_K··on A tiny satellite showed it can take high-res pics from space
Now imagine the resolution on a satellite the size of a bus!
Justin_K··on Datadog acquires Quickwit
I have had the opposite experience. Sales has been really respectful of our time.
Justin_K··on Netflix buffering issues: Boxing fans complain about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
I love how I can come to HN to instantly find out if it’s Netflix or my WiFi.
Justin_K··on Ask HNs: Is Tyson vs. Paul Crashing Netflix?
Unreal failure
Justin_K··on Busy Status Bar
Go build your own for cheaper and see if you can make a living.
Justin_K··on College students used Meta's smart glasses to dox people in real time
While I like what they stitched together, it has nothing to do with meta ... at the end of the day, any camera can do the same
Justin_K··on Making an atomic trampoline [video]
I was wondering if you go this route, how do you dispose of the liquid after? Once the liquid evaporates, dust is left behind.
Justin_K··on Twilio confirms data breach after hackers leak 33M Authy user phone numbers
Even worse... Sounds like phone number is irrelevant, yet they collect it.
Justin_K··on $20k MRR in one month, Stripe destroyed everything on 1 second
Find another payment processor. Stop blaming others for your lack of contracts.
Justin_K··on Anduril Is Building Out The Pentagon's Dream of Deadly Drone Swarms
I actually find it a relief that a startup is disrupting the industry, where Boeing, Northrop and others are less productive and more expensive.
Justin_K··on Montessori Education
Genuinely curious if other HN users can share their experiences at Montessori. Considering options for my young son.
Justin_K··on GameStop shares soar 110% and are halted as trader 'Roaring Kitty' resurfaces
Historically, everyone looses their ass on these pump and dump schemes. And when that happens, people say things like "Why didn't the SEC step in to prevent the losses?"
Justin_K··on A TikTok ban would deal a blow to creators, businesses and the American economy
Staying away from the politics, anybody who has a business model completely dependent upon a single service’s algorithm should question what kind of business they have.
Justin_K··on Cancer in Younger People on the Rise
There is a huge public benefit to analyzing this data.
Justin_K··on California is gripped by economic problems, with no easy fix
How would ruining the financial plans for millions of homeowners solve the problem? It's so easy to say "just increase taxes" but the reality is our spending is insane.
Justin_K··on Biden proposes 30% tax on crypto mining
Got to raise taxes to pay for all the bullshit spending. Why don’t they just tax excess power usage?
Justin_K··on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon G12 laptop review: First major refresh in three years
I couldn’t have had a worse experience with my x1. Thermal throttling over 50 percent of the time. Warranty service came 2x and was not able to resolve. Customer support said the machine was fine. I finally gave up and tossed the machine in a shredder.
Justin_K··on Dell XPS laptop gets a 2024 overhaul with XPS 13, XPS 14, and XPS 16 laptops
Funny, I had nothing but problems with high end Lenovo's for years. They all went away when I switched to Dell!

It goes both ways I guess :/

Justin_K··on New tax rule is terrible for software industry
I have a perfect example as to why these rules are unfair. I work in the healthcare industry and a lot of the r&d is because it has to keep up with new regulations set out every year.

So the government is forcing expenses on us.... And then making us wait to deduct.

Justin_K··on A secret deal let Spotify bypass Android's app store fees
Nothing says Anti-Trust like secret deals that violate their published TOS.
Justin_K··on The US is quietly arming Taiwan to the teeth
I'm genuinely curious because all we hear about are the bad examples
Justin_K··on The US is quietly arming Taiwan to the teeth
Are there examples where communism did not turn into authoritarian?
Justin_K··on Lenovo ThinkPad T14s G4 review: Business laptop is better with AMD Zen4
I had the same problems with Lenovo Intel chips. Constantly getting thermally throttled.

Switched to Dell and couldn't be happier.

Justin_K··on California slams San Francisco for 'egregious' barriers to housing construction
Doesn't anybody feel that the state requirements are unreasonable? With SF as dense as it is, I don't think they should build more housing.
Justin_K··on Google Chrome's new "IP Protection" will hide users' IP addresses
An ad tech company is looking to reroute browser traffic through their servers in the name of privacy. Do you not see the issue / irony?
