Ask HNs: Is Tyson vs. Paul Crashing Netflix?
I thought Netflix paid their engineers well. Their service is absolutely not doing well under this kind of load.
I’ll say though … Live streaming is a radically different tech challenge than serving static content.
And this fight was the first live streaming event Netflix has ever done.
Let’s not trash our HN friends, since many Netflix engineers are active on HN.
It's not. Theres been 'live reunion' for Love is Blind, and theres a chef guy that has a 'fully live' show.
I agree the engineer comment is not phrased well but the main point I think is: clearly someone(s) at NFLX screwed up.
That’s odd because the commentators said it was. Maybe first live sports event?
Either way, you’re right. They’ve done several live events.
One bad night and people talk crap. Now that’s not right.
<curmudgeon> I see we are fully into the post-accountability world. </curmudgeon>
At the very least, the customers deserve an explanation of what highly-improbable circumstance led to the unfortunate outcome, if the claim that "it's not right" is to be considered justified.
We can't see it here in Florida-I get the spinning red thing in the middle of the screen--but if I VPN to California I can watch it.
