JakDrako··on Show HN: 5 minute word game
Here's my Pulitzer winner:

    Miner toe jam
    pure crime mam
JakDrako··on THIS THING DELETED 3 MONTHS OF WORK – Issue #32405 – Microsoft/vscode
Solution:

1) Reproduce exact problem. 2) Say "Fascinating" in your best Spock impression. 3) Restore from daily backup.

If you cannot do 3, then you've found THE base problem.

JakDrako··on Please Change 'Slave' terminology
Rust should be renamed "Shiny New Metal"... Visual Basic should now be know as Visual Just-As-Good. C#... who wants a "C" when they deserve an "A"? A# it is. Short ints and Long ints are lenghtism; they have to be called EconoBytes and EnoughToShareBytes from now on. Queues must be eliminated, because some items get processed first. Everything should be processed in parallel.
JakDrako··on What exactly is your problem with PHP?

JakDrako··on The Six Dumbest Ideas in Computer Security (2005)
Passwords that are restricted to a very short length and/or with a limited character set.
JakDrako··on Ask:HN a strong argument for privacy
Do they have drapes in their windows and doors on their bathrooms? Do they mind if you film them the next time they use the toilet or take a shower? How about the next time they make love to their partner? No? Why not?

A lot of people seem to equate "privacy" with "hiding illegal/immoral stuff"... the biggest part of privacy is simply about decency and dignity and not having to share stuff you'd rather not. Personal hygiene and intimacy are two domains where even if "we have nothing to hide", we generally prefer not to share.

JakDrako··on Commute Maps Reveal We All Live in Mega-Regions, Not Cities
325 million people living in the ruin of the old world and the mega structures of the new one. Mega blocks. Mega highways. Mega Region One.
JakDrako··on Today a greater percentage of Dutch people speak English than Canadians
Not really surprising considering that the Canadian province of Quebec (8M population out of 35M) is mostly French speaking.
JakDrako··on Ask HN: What is your best programming joke?
A wife asks her programmer husband "Honey, could you go to the store and get a loaf of bread? Oh, and if they have eggs, take half a dozen."

So the guy comes back with six loaves of bread.

JakDrako··on React Game Kit
Mind not blown. It looks to me like an old PC-XT CGA game. If you want to experiment with making games on the web, you're much better off, I think, using something like http://www.pixijs.com/ Just the landing page is way more mind blowing than that React "game" demo.
JakDrako··on Ask HN: What are the best programming languages?
Arc fits the bill: http://www.paulgraham.com/arc.html
JakDrako··on Reinventing Fast Inverse Sqrt Using 8th Grade Math
Waste of time. Web layout is crappy powerpoint wannabe and broken in notebook view... I guess bullshitmath needs bullshitwebtech.
JakDrako··on New brush lets perfectly normal humans lick their cat
Can you really put "normal humans" and "lick their cat" in the same sentence?
JakDrako··on Ask HN: What is wrong with my boss?
When's he's not there, use to time to find a better job and leave.
JakDrako··on Is this a SPHINX on Mars?
Life on mars?

JakDrako··on TrueCrypt issues
Have you tried removing 7.2 and reinstalling 7.1a? 7.2 should not be used, it is a crippled, read-only version. 7.1a is the last "real" version of TrueCrypt.

If the encrypted volume was damaged and you don't have backups, you might be out of luck.

JakDrako··on Computers Learn How to Paint Whatever You Tell Them To
Sadly, "Repaint the bathroom" still doesn't work.
JakDrako··on If Steve jobs was alive today, what would you ask him?
Would you like me to dig you out?
JakDrako··on What Programming methodology is this?
It's the "Convince-your-competitors-to-use-it" methodology.
JakDrako··on How does the VW “defeat device” work
Apparently, the software only checks if the steering wheel is being moved. If the car is being tested on a platform and the steering never moves, "clean mode" is engaged; if driving on a road, "Enough-emissions-to-choke-a-Humvee mode" is enabled.
JakDrako··on Ask HN: I've been asked if I'd like to give up my GitHub name
Please let the name be "fu".
JakDrako··on Ask HN: Is it feasible to have children wear “worldview protectors” in school?
That's built in the child. It's called "the teenage years."
JakDrako··on The 4 Ways People Rationalize Eating Meat
Industrial agriculture also implies an animal death toll, even if only indirectly: http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/ordering-vegeta...
JakDrako··on Floating Point Benchmark: Rust Language Added
Everyone knows that when performance counts, you turn to VB.Net on XP. Accept no substitute :)
JakDrako··on Why I hate programming language flame wars?
You can append a "$" to those functions (ie, Left$(), Right$(), Mid$(), etc) to use the "return a string" version of these functions.
JakDrako··on Destroyer.io
Yup, you could add "0. Make drive image for NSA" without altering the rest of the process. If you need that amount of security, you should probably destroy your own drives.
JakDrako··on I got this Cease and Desist for scraping someone's site
Do you have some old full-sized SCSI 40MB drive lying around? It'd be amusing to see them trying to connect that to any modern computer... http://www.biocomp.net/seagate_st4766n.jpg
JakDrako··on Did you know that the largest number with a name is Googolplexian?
Graham's number is much much larger.
JakDrako··on What happens when a Tesla electric car gets rear ended?
If the other car was under heavy braking, it's front-end dips down and instead of a bumper-to-bumper collision, you have the rear-ending car go "under" the back of the front car.

Source: My old '81 Mustang got rear-ended at fairly high speed by a Civic and had no taillight damage. Lost my tailpipe but that was about all.

JakDrako··on Download The whole Issue about HTML5 For Free Now
"before you will try download it"?

Thanks for the early warning.
