JakDrako··on Two Writes, One Row: Who Wins?
Not reading that font, sorry.
JakDrako··on The Enhanced Games, Where Athletes Compete on Steroids, HGH, Adderall
So... the Olympics?
JakDrako··on A Puzzling Performance Puzzle
That's a fun puzzle. I converted the code to C# and managed to get a 20x speedup. Not sure how the code would fare in Java, but I presume that things that are slow in C# are probably also slow in Java.
JakDrako··on Show HN: Car Chomper – A tool to visualize car sizes
PHEV vehicles seem incorrect. The Toyota Rav4 Prime has a range given as 42 miles, which is true for electric only, but it also has between 400-500 miles of gas range.

After playing around a bit, all the make/model/year drop downs are empty and I can't get them to work again.

JakDrako··on List of books that will induce a mindfuck
It's on there... you just can't remember seeing it.
JakDrako··on Ask HN: What is in C-00000291*.sys?
That one is just water unfortunately.
JakDrako··on Show HN: I made a simple web app to create forms
Small typo: "Receive Submissions" has a typo in "recieve".
JakDrako··on Advertiser exodus expected to deeply impact X ad revenue, analysis indicates
I you consider that the plan from the start was to destroy Twitter entirely, then everything is going swimmingly. The major hiccup was for Musk to be forced to buy it for much more than it was worth, but other than that, Twitter is pretty much on it's way to being just a hollow husk of its former self.
JakDrako··on The Most Fun Post on X Today
My math fu is not good, but am I understanding this correctly: In Z/Z, every integers "maps" to 0, so 2+2=5 is equivalent to 0+0=0, so 2+2=5 is true in that system...?
JakDrako··on Ask HN: What companies have blown you away with their customer support?
Reolink.

I broke a camera while installing it and when I contacted them to see if repair was possible (because, as I told them, the camera being broken was entirely my fault), they just asked for a copy of the invoice and sent me a new one.

JakDrako··on Short history of all Windows UI frameworks
The other "Windows Forms" should probably be in there somewhere... a COM wrapper used by Visual Basic (and other languages, but mostly VB). From 1991 (VB1) to 1998 (VB6)... out of support since 2008, but still faily widely used in legacy applications.
JakDrako··on Ask HN: Where can I find CSS classes that imitate the latest iOS design system?
https://konstaui.com/
JakDrako··on Ask HN: Will Bing chat save Bing?
I just freshly reimaged a Surface with a Windows 11 ISO that had no drivers for the Surface, so I had no wifi during setup... an offline account is definitely still possible.

The Windows 11 Settings UI does everything it can to hide it from you. But you can use the old "Local Users and Groups" applet to manage them. (Run the condescendingly named "lusrmgr.msc"...)

JakDrako··on Ask HN: Why did not USA safely brought down the Spy Balloon?
I'd like to see the harpoon attachment for the F-22.
JakDrako··on Sony and Honda just announced their new electric car brand, Afeela
Afeela good.

Not.

JakDrako··on Turkey adopts media law jailing for spreading ‘disinformation’
Will the Ministry of Truth also tell the good people what is the correct information they may spread?
JakDrako··on Magnus Carlsen resigns against Hans Niemann after one move
"Hans could play even better with my Hyperpoop."
JakDrako··on Formula One’s sharpest car designer is also its master of loopholes
One of Aston Martin's aerodynamicist is ex-Red Bull... the "B" version of this year's Aston Martin looks extremely similar to the Red Bull car. Aston have yet to match the performance of RB; although Vettel has placed the new car higher in the points that the "A" version.

They've announced many new parts for this weekend's race; we'll see if AM can close the gap to the top teams with a Newey-trained (?) aerodynamicist who's not Newey and (presumably) has no access to him.

JakDrako··on The Dubious Art of the Dad Joke

JakDrako··on I Am a Twenty Year Truck Driver, Part 2: How Truckers Are Paid
Calling someone "sweaty" is not great either. Or did you mean "Sweetie"?
JakDrako··on Germany plans to build Europe's largest military
Maybe it's German humor, so... not funny?
JakDrako··on God Is as Real as You
Truth is a cylinder? Piffles. Show me a spherical cube in 3 dimensions and we'll talk.
JakDrako··on Trump is returning to social media in a few months with his own platform
Since Trump misses Twitter, I think it will be called "Blower"... instead of a tweet, it'll be "a blow". People will trade blows all day long, and once you get verified (ie, the NSA/FBI backdoor has logged all your info, à la Gab and Parler), you'll be known as a "blowhard".

It'll be tremendous, like no one has ever seen.

JakDrako··on Ask HN: What's a problem you wish someone else would solve already?
Problem: keeping all my browser bookmarks in sync on all browsers on all platforms. If I save something in Firefox on iOS, I want it to show up in Brave on Windows and Chrome on Android without having to think about it.
JakDrako··on Formula 1: The secret aerodynamicist reveals design concepts
Some say that he can make a brick fly using only a banana and a pair of socks and that he's been known to reverse the wind; all we know is he's called the Secret Aerodynamicist.
JakDrako··on What are some undeniably GOOD things about the United States?
Presidential term limits.
JakDrako··on Show HN: How Secure Is My Password
The scoring algo is pretty bad. You get 1 or 2 points for each characters classes and some points for length (at lengths 7, 13, 16 and 21).

"AAaa11!!" scores nicely using this method (one "blip" from a perfect green bar), but zxcvbn (from Dropbox) gives it a score of "1" with an estimated crack time of 13 minutes.

JakDrako··on This mighty Porsche 919 just broke the F1 lap record at Spa
This year's F1 cars are faster than they were last year, when the lap record by Lewis Hamilton (in qualifying) was 1:42.553. Spa is a long circuit, it's not impossible that the F1s take back the record at the end of August.

In the two races so far, the qualifying lap times were about 1s and .8s faster than last year. A similar improvement for Spa would break the 1.41.770 time of the 919.

Either way, that Porsche is a fantastic monster of a car. I'd really love to see Porsche enter and compete in F1.

JakDrako··on Ask HN: Why can't I visualize myself walking through a doorway?
